Shale was excusable because of time constraints. This is not acceptable for me. I will not be buying this game if this is the future of your games Bioware. I pay for the game, not to be screwed over and made to pay more for what should be available from the start.

lol oh no~! corperate conspiracies to make money! no wayz!! enjoy life with the tin foil cap champ Posted Image

Oh dear.

On the other hand, you're also still astounded by random pieces of wood and other mundane "things" (that means inanimate objects) not to mention by 2+2 equaling 4.

P.S.:

Is this character more like Shale (a complete character with a full set of conversations), or more like Zaeed (a shell of a character with nothing to say when you talk to him)?

Naturally, I'm hoping for someone like Shale.

I didn't think Zaeed was a shell of a character. He was static and lacked depth, but still established his image and made your dirty dozen a more diversified group.

He didn't have any dialogue when you spoke to him.  It wasn't possible to learn anything about him without just trusting him to divulge it voluntarily.

No... SHEPARD didn't have any dialogue when speaking to him, I don't understand what your second sentence means.

Except this isn't what we're doing. This isn't something we've ever done, at any point. I know many people are convinced that whenever we mention any kind of DLC that's released near the on-disc product that it's stuff we just tore out of the main game to sell for an extra price, but that's not true. DLC of any sort is budgeted and worked on in a completely separate fashion from the main game. For the most part, we need to be completely locked down content-wise a good two or three months in advance. More is preferable, of course, but there's a minimum of at least a month and a half.

Anything and everything that's worked on as PRC is both budgeted and worked on completely separately from the main game. Sometimes, the timelines intersect a bit - writers tend to be done with the game a little sooner than anyone else, so they've got some downtime to write dialogue and such. But we've never gone in and stripped something from the main game just so we could sell it after the fact. As it is, most of our projects end up in a lot of 14 hour days and long weekends at the office just so we can finish what you're actually getting on the disc. Nevermind extra content for us to cut so we can later repackage it and resell it. That just doesn't happen.

Of course, I work for the company, so I'm certain some people wouldn't believe me if I told them rain is wet. That's their prerogative! For the rest, though, I figured I'd chime in and dispel some of the fears.

Out of curiosity, if you DID end up having to cut content from the game prior to its release, would you resell it as premium DLC?

Isn't that true of any character, when you get down to it?

This is pretty offensive, really. With Shale, you could download her as long as you made a retail purchase and had a valid authorization code. The extra charge for her was for people who people who somehow had a code that was no longer unique or registered. Her status had nothing to do with preordering.

This is a completely different kettle of fish. They know the changes they've made to the game since the first one have not been well received by some of the players. They know that a lot of those players will want to wait until after it comes out, see the game reviews, maybe watch some gameplay videos on YouTube, so that they can make an informed decision whether or not they want to purchase it. This is like kicking those people when they're down, should they decide to purchase the game later on, by forcing them to pay extra to experience the full content. "What, you won't slavishly and blindly purchase everything we make before release? You will be punished for your independent thinking!"

Thanks a lot, guys. Really appreciate that.

That was what happened to Shale wasn't it? Shale was cut because they did not have time or the money to make Shale work properly, then the DLC team salvaged the work and finished her. Since they do have separate budgets and timetables they can do stuff like that, even if the main team cannot. Thus making sure that we get that content after all.

Hm, I do wonder about the business wisdom of releasing a DLC like this though. So all of the people who don't preorder, or who preorder after January 11, and then get the game within the first week or so, will start up the game for the first time and immediately see an available DLC for extra charge? Essentially, "Thanks for buying, now buy this too!" I'm not sure if that will sit well.

Maybe if the DLC were released a month or two later, instead...

Though, granted, I'm talking out of my *** a bit. I don't know how consumers will actually react.

edit: it's the immediacy of it that makes it seem a bit questionable. If I buy a game within the first week, I don't want to find out that I haven't actually gotten everything available in the game, because that'll cost extra. That's just... that would be questionable. It would feel sleazy. I would feel ripped off a bit.

No.  If you can converse with him then you can trap him.

Conversation is adversarial.

That's the thing. It's about feelings, not reality. Whether the DLC is available on day one or day 100, without the DLC charge you don't get that DLC because the DLC wouldn't exist. It was never going to not cost extra.

Personally, I prefer day 1. If I'm going to buy it anyway I might as well have it in all playthroughs. And of course, if I'm not going to buy it I don't give a damn when it's released.

But I have no idea how many folks will feel like you.

Edit: Doesn't Bio already know how people feel about this sort of thing? Shale was free, but Warden's Keep was not. IIRC, that wasn't planned as day 1 DLC, but does that matter?

Just one question, if they added this character to the regular game instead of having him/her as a dlc wouldn't they have to raise the price on the regular game to compensate? And if your answer is that the current price tag was with that character in mind and that they are taking out content without lowering the price my response is that every game you see on a shelf could potentially be overpriced compared to the cost of making it, I don't see how this is different.

Yeah, I mean, I understand the reasoning they're using, and from a practical standpoint, whether I've pre-ordered or not, I wouldn't want them to delay something that's finished for no reason other than what I've mentioned. It's just a feeling.
