Good thing I already pre-ordered. If we pre-ordered the game before this was announced, it still counts, right?Posted ImagePosted Image

Priestly said it was retroactive.

To be technical, has it been confirmed that it's a "party member", specifically, already? Given that it mentions missions and says "playable character", it might be referring to a sidestory-type thing where you just play as someone other than Hawke. If it has, well, that's interesting.

Wording mistake. [smilie]http://social.bioware.com/images/forum/emoticons/pinched.png[/smilie]

It is an NPC, not a PC. This is the equivalent of getting a Sten or Wynne character, NOT a new "Hawke" character.

We're fixing the main page now.

So, yes.

Yes, we will be updating the
retailer list as retailers get their pages updated for pre-ordering. We
have no word yet on digital versions, but will let you know when we do.

Ah, thanks. Would've preferred a new PC, personally (expanding on the rest of the world and all that), but I suppose that works too.

My money is that this character will be be free with new versions of the game even if you don't pre-order, like Shale and Zaeed were. The soundtrack and extra weapons won't, however.

Pre-order and you don't have to pay for the new companion or the extra stuff.

This. I'm a fan of getting the bonuses without having to pay anything more for them. I regret missing out on the Collector's Edition of Origins, so this is gold.

Yeah but then you get some companies who release only certain stuff in certain areas, like North America get something and EU get other stuff and occasionally Australia gets something for themselves, unfortunatly UK seems to get the ones i don't want

I'm pretty sure that it will be the latter... considering they are making you pay on release for this one, they're just trying to make money.

As oppose to?

It's hard to say, but I would say NO. Why?

Adding game content by continue more the story is fine, but selling items or character with money isn't. Problem is that it offers advances trough extra money. In single player games it's not so huge problem, like it's in MMO's. How ever, there are in this forum people who complain how easy the insanity difficulty is, while this problem is comming from advanced gears from DLC's. Everyone else will start to suffer if game developers adjust they game balance based DLC's. I'm pretty sure any intelligent person will understand my point here. Adding more stories doesn't change the balance of the game, it's the items and exp got from there what does it.

Now adding characters, means lack of characters in main game. What is't much better choise. Company should not sell with real money advances to some players. They should sell story continues.

Oh I forgot. Advertise you addional products INSIDE the game is NOT fine. You did this in DAO camp side.

It's not for money (well, it is. But not the way you're saying it). You get the character free when you buy the game, it's anti-second hand at it's finest (a brilliant strategy too). If you were planning to get the game secondhand, the game isn't missing this big important part but if you buy the game new then you're getting a DLC. I don't see how that's "extra money".

Did Shale or Zaeed make Nightmare / Insanity too easy?

I think some people complained about Shale and the crystal loot drops.  Some of those crystals were worth quite the pretty penny as vendor trash... ;)

I can't say anything about Zaeed, when I tried to play on Insanity he and every other NPC just got themselves killed all the time :P

Like you quoted, I was talking gears in those DLC's, not character. How ever, did you forget Kasumi? She is very powerfull character what's comming from DLC. How ever, bigger problem than characters are the items.

Well, with Shale you also get the Helm of Honnleath (+2 all attributes, +3 armor) and the Harvest Festival ring (+2 STR and DEX, +4 attack). Do Shale's quest and you also get the Cadash Stompers (+2 DEX, +2 armor, +2% crit chance, increased hostility). That's a pretty awesome set of gear for your tank. And the Dead Thaig Shanker ain't bad either.

I didn't get Lumikki's point either until I actually looked at my item loadouts.

Though I'm not sure I'd say Shale doesn't "come with the game".  Anyone who bought DAO new got SP, since IIRC they never expired the code. The question is whether Bio expected those items to be kicking around when they balanced the main game.

It depense what you think is the cost. Remember information is also worth of money. Meaning some people value information alot, like privacy. So, when you get access to those "extra" characters, you "sell" you personal gameplay information as cost to Bioware, if you haven't figure out how to prevent it to happen on game options. Also some stuff you can't even prevent with game options. Yeah, I know this is more about person, but remember not everyone sees everyting same ways or have same values in life.
