I'm betting, however, that the special character is non-human.

Hope so. Humans are bland enough to talk with in real life, I need something to relate with.

I'm hoping for a romanceable Dalish elf of the too-hott-to-handle variety.

I hope this means that different outlets won't have their own alternative pre-order bonuses.

Is this character more like Shale (a complete character with a full set of conversations), or more like Zaeed (a shell of a character with nothing to say when you talk to him)?

Naturally, I'm hoping for someone like Shale.

I hate when people say this. He has more to say than any other squadmate. It's Shepard that has nothing to say to Zaeed.

...but, yeah. Hoping for a character like Shale. XD

If your Shepard is anything like mine he habitually uses the garbage disposal while Zaeed talks.

Zaeed is like the Oddysey while Garrus is like the Raven and Jack is like the Pit and the Pendulum

While I understand this is to entice people to pre-order, however, it has had the opposite effect on my opinion.

I was already unsure whether I was going to get this game, and was planning to wait and see what reviews were saying. Now, if I were to decide to purchase the game after reading reviews, I am going to get screwed out of content?

In all likelihood, this will have probably destroyed any chance of me getting DA2. All I have to look forward to now PS3 ME2 :-(

Shale was about the only good downloadable content from the DA:O series, so if it's like that then maybe it's worth it. Still, I'm not going for pre-orders or first day purchases anymore(learnt my lesson from Awakening). Not sure if the pre-orders are available for my country anyways.

You do realize that whether or not the extra charactor is only for preorders or in all copies to encourage buying new instead of second hand, Dragon Age 2 will be awesome or terrible regardless? I loved shale but I would honestly not have enjoyed dragon age origins any less for not having him in it (which if he hadn't come free in my normal copy of DA:O would have been the case), nor would his presence have made me enjoy the game if it had sucked.

It is one companion with associated companion quests, presumably the same average amount as those that are in game have, not an earth shattering plot vital gamplay feature. Deciding not to buy DA2 based on this annoyance instead of on the actual games merits seems abit extreme.

Preorder by putting 5$ on it. Wait till March, read the reviews and if you like what you see then feel free to go grab it. If not, you move the 5$ to something else.

Chances are this content will be purchaseable later on for folks who don't take advantage of this offer. I don't see the harm in putting down a pre-order now. I'm a little wary if they're going to spring a collector's edition on us but since this signature edition has a soundtrack (which is the main reason I get collector's editions) then I probably won't be too fussed.

I hope that character doesn't have a shiny bald head, from what I saw on the silhouette.

If so, then I shall prepare DA2 Redesigned before installation.

Priestly said that THIS is the Collector's Edition. I'm also feeling that the character will be in every new copy of the game, considering how they advertised Shale as a character in the Collector's Edition of Origins.

Looks female, though it does bring up the question on who exactly is the character. The EA advertisement shows a Male Qunari.

I think it's a female elf archer. She probably has long hair which is why the silhouette is smooth. She may possibly be older because extra companions are not usually romanceable.

They could make a normal woman / man without them being a romance. The forums would cry fowl but they always do anyways.

Could always be a random and totally unrelated silhouette, just like the bunch they put on the main cover behind Hawke.

I'm going to go with a human, male warrior. Definitely looks like heavy armour. I'm inclined to believe the weapon is not a staff or a bow because we don't see the "other side" of it. The ear definitely looks human though, though the end of the "pommel" has an odd shape so it *might* be a staff. It's hard to judge if the "high collar" is part of the armour or not, I mean, it almost looks like an outline of default Male Hawke.

Sure they could, but it seems like whenever you have a normal male or female between about 20-40 or so, they're romanceable. I mean out of the Origins companions, the ones you couldn't romance were a dog, a dwarf, a qunari, an old lady, an older man, and a golem. In ME2 the non-romanceables were either non-sexy alien races, or DLC. I'm counting Samara/Morinth as a romanceable because you kind of can but not really.

To me, the character looks female. Just the way he / she is positioned gives off a feminine pose.

If the character is looking down, then it will be harder to judge the hair style.
