i am also exporting using this method to test it.
Testing an Area by overriding the starting area
Area Resources can be tested in a very convenient way. If you just want to give it a test run you can override the module's start area on an export-by-export basis.
1. Save the Area you are working on
2. Navigate Tools/Export/Export Options
3. Activate "Override campaign export settings"
4. Choose the Area, and a Waypoint with it
5. Export the Area with or without dependand resources as needed
Once the export has completed you should be able to start a "New Game" (if editing the main campaign) or select your module under "Other Campaigns" (for stand-alone content). You should start in the level that you have exported at the waypoint that you have set as your starting point. You need to have an custom module setup as Standalone, see above.

The information is very fragmented and unclear.
Are you able to load your module and do you start in the area you want to start in? I've never used that method; instead I just change the start area in the module properties (File -> Manage Modules -> Properties). If you are not starting in the area you want to start in, I suggest first trying it.
If you are starting in the correct area but are not able to transition to another area, have you set up the area transition placeables correctly - the destination area and waypoint tags?

ive followed the wiki tutorial about area transitions and did everything it said to do. The starting area is correct. when i get to the area transition it asks if i would like to move to the next area and when i click yes it does nothing and im still in the starting area still able to move around.

im also exporting that way because the wiki says its a quick way to test the module.

is the tag for the destination area just the name of the area?

The area tag is the area resource name - the one you give when you create the area, not the name you see in-game.
