I'm thinking since we didn't find Duncan's body at Ostagar, Hawke went there took his armor, fashioned his beard and buried him. Or this could all be one big coincidence lol

Now that i looked at the picture, Carver looks... cute, actually. In a really, really dumb-like way. I can easily relate him to characters that only think about muscles or whatever. He'll probably be a pleasant surprise, but well.

He does look a lot like Duncan. I'm still gonna make Xander's..I mean Derpy's...I mean Carver's life a living hell every chance I get though.

well in the live stream he actually looked pretty good, i guess it's the angle and face expression that make him look goofy

Indeed, this is very much the case, but as the only screenshot so far, coupled with the expressions the rest of his family seem to be giving him he does look, well you know, special.
