If you trust a company to deliver on a product, then pre-ordering the product as soon as possible is not a bad decision.

Agreed.  I've had New Vegas pre-ordered for months now.  Just a few more days! /squeel :D

Let me put my inane opinion here: It is a generalization of course and bound to many fallacies as such.

More pre-orders mean a lot to a company. Why?

1) Profit: Value of games depreciates over time
2) Prestige: People trust us so much that they bought our game before trying it out.
3) Sale assurance: You have bought it. Period. Some of you may not have bought it after reading/seeing user reviews/ Metacritic scores / Actual gameplay footage etc.

under these circumstance would you NOT encourage people to buy it before being released? Whether you buy the argument or freebies or not, it only matters if you Bought the game or not. - Troika (Vampire) ; not sic.

Yeah, certainly. And...? While that is probably the reasoning of the company, one thing that I don't understand is why so many customers are willing, even happy, to just accept everything. It may be in the interest of the company, but is it in your interest? I don't think so. If at least each newly bought game would contain this content, you could still pre-order the game if you think it's worth it.

I pretty much only see this when it comes to video games, that paying customers are so eager to find excuses and try to explain away all these constant steps into a direction that is not in the least customer-friendly. Some are even insulting people who dare to speak out against that direction. Why is that, I wonder.

Marketing ploys are frequently met with skepticism.

Anyway, I think Dave of Canada has the right idea. Pre-order, then cancel and move your $5 fee if things look bad. Rinse and repeat.

Since yiu ask nicely I will tell you (joking!):

It is NOT in my interest. There are various reasons (another generalization coming! Take Coveeeeeeeeeeeeer!):

1) It costs you more.
2) You may not like the game when you buy it (duh?)
3)They may release the signature thingy as DLC anyway later and it may even be cheaper becuase the game cost has gone down.

But people WILL still go for it because:

1) People are sheeple (possible reason)
2) People are in love with Bioware
3) People somehow know for sure that the signature thingy is unique and will not be sold later as a DLC
4) People just are Rich enough not to care
5) People don't care

Choose your pick.

It's an EA thing. They always release a special edition for the same price as the standard edition in order to combat used game sales. Just take a look at Bad Company 2, Medal of Honor and Crysis 2.

If the forums make you as cranky as you sound...

If you're excited about the game, good for you.  You're not alone.  Why you think the forums need to be one big pep rally, I dunno.  Fandom isn't conformity, especially when they've given us plenty of reason to be skeptical by making some big departures on the franchise over Origins.

Why did you say it like that, I'm curious?

Especially when they've given us plenty of reason to be skeptical by making some big departures on the franchise over Origins

This is very subjective and also, when you say US, unless you define us, you give the impression that everyone involved must feel like that.  How about just saying I or me?

Also, who is saying it has to be a pep rally and all that?  I mean, ya, you get some who will just yell "quit complaining", but it is no different then acting like someone has to just have terrible taste to like the current known things about DA2.

Because they have given their entire fan base reason to be skeptical.  Now, you may not be skeptical, either because the changes don't bother you, or because you're just generally more optimistic about Bioware games - and that's fine.  You aren't stupid or naive or anything else - it's just a different set of beliefs and values leading to a different opinion, based on the same information.

However, just as it isn't unreasonable to be optimistic given the available information, it also isn't unreasonable to be skeptical.  Thus, they have given "us" reason to be skeptical.

Huh?  I have not said being skeptical is bad...  All I said was that not being skeptical about DA2 is not bad.

Because they have given their entire fan base reason to be skeptical.

Also no, they obviously have not given the entire fan base a reason to be skeptical. Why are you being so dramatic? If the things fans have seen have either made them happy about the changes or don't care about the changes, how would that be Bioware giving the entire fan base a reason?

I think you may have overestimated the importance of your personal views about the game, just a little bit, dont ya think?

I'm with you on that. One of the reasons I find myself posting less and less in the DA2 forum is how everyone seems to want me to be in 'OMG I so want this game' mod. I can't even mention how I dislike the art design or think the way they're going with the class system is a step in the wrong direction without getting a talking to about how all the haters should get lost and to be reminded of the glory that is BioWare.

I'm sure they've made some great games, folks, but DA is my first BioWare game. (Played ME and thought it was incredibly stupid) so from my perspective they're no different then any other video game company.

Actually they have. Large departures from a popular and established method of doing something is cause to become skeptical.

And you sound terribly pedantic.

Oh please, you are over exaggerating, it is not near that bad. I would argue if anything most people here take themselves way to damn serious and way to thin skinned, to have anyone disagree with them.

I don't find it a large departure, so then I guess we come at an impasse.

And condescending.

Because I think speaking for an entire group of people is presumptuous? Well ok then, color me condescending?

Dear BioWare and EA,

SNIP

Have you seen how bad the game industry is right now? Companies are losing a lot of money. Usually faster than they can make it. So it makes sense that they try to up the hype and add more incentive to get others interested. The content was probably made on the side as a gesture of awesomeness. At least they're not making you PAY for a CE they're allowing you to avoid the $80 price tag.  Though of course people like you ALWAYS have to make it seem like something shady. You SIR/MA'AM/THING are a cynic. Far worse than I.

I don't mind when people disagree with me. They're welcome to. And they're welcome to turn this entire board into a giant fan thread. (which is why I don't post here all that much anymore. This is your place to do whatever it is fanboys/girls do.)

Urgh...  by "us" I do mean the Origins fanbase.  But saying "they've given us reason to be skeptical" does not equal saying "we are all, every one of us, skeptical."  You drew an arrow there that I don't.  So you're arguing with yourself at this point.

And there's almost nothing about DA2 that I've heard that has made me excited about the game, so it's a large departure for me, considering how much I liked Origins.

My analysis on the gaming situation:

Another generalization:

Buyers are students or unemployed people in general (a lot of them at least). They get money from govt. and spend it to buy games. just proves that Govt. is giving too much money to unemployed considering this can be called a luxury,

Nope, blind as a bat.  In-fact, I have been known to think I misplaced my keys, when they have been sitting in my office the whole time.  I probably should have my eye's checked though, now that you mention it.

Whatever, I'm out.

Sorry you feel that way. Well goodbye then, hope to see you around.
