This is off topic but Jesus, MMOs are such a risky damn business model with a really high failure rate

I know right, then we could actually have a fully fleshed out crpg with multiple races that was rated at more than 30 hours and included 100% VO. :D

The extra companion will be free to all new copies of DA2. There I just saved a month or two and lots of teeth gnashing.

I like MMOs, good ones anyway, I was mostly commenting from the perspective of the developer/publisher.

A bit off topic, but I'd like to note:

Buying DA2: Signature Edition for the PC from the EA Store, using standard 3-4 day delivery cost me, plus tax, $72.30.

Buying the same copy from GameStop with their free Overnight Deal of the Day cost me $53.99.

No charge for cancelling my pre-order from EA, either.

Damn.

Ya, I wish I could be a company of my choice, main focus as well, what a bummer.

This does assume that they ever meant for the "Champion of Kirkwall" to be anything other than a Human.

Oh i know, and thats why i think its stupid to go up against WoW because you have to invest everything and your shirt to even have a chance of doing it, and then theres the risk of making it too much like WoW along with a ton of other things i won't really go in to. But if AoC proved anything to me, its that you can at least sell 500k copies on hype alone.

They've only got three months to get something up there, they're running out of time!

But seriously, I'd prefer to order through Steam too, so I'm waiting for that too - but I'm not in enough of a hurry to be upset about it quite yet.

So, anyone remember what it was like when the announced the bonuses of DA:O's special edition?

I didn't pay attention to DA until they announced it will be DRM-free.

I played Conan at launch, left and came back much later and it kept me for a over a year - which is an eternity for me with MMOs.  Is very much a good game now, heck I often cite its combat system as particularly excellent on this very forum.  It's expansion was a triumph gameplay wise and the new zones were spectacularly beautiful.  The problem is if an MMO isn't an immediate overnight phenomenon, it is doomed to be a critical and commercial failure.  Very few people revisit MMO's if they ever get the stink of failure on them, no matter how successful they are at washing it off.

That's why it's such a huge risk.  It's totally sink or swim.

I think TOR needs more playable races. Need Rodians at least. Fully-voiced in Rodian language of course. ;)

No, and its unlikely it will be official until after january 11th, that is of course if it were true. Saying this is the case now would curb presales, can't have that.

Probably. If it is, I won't be offended. The preorder doesn't cost me anything extra, and I was going to do it anyway. I imagine the soundtrack and armory are exclusive, though.

like i said before:

i'm already expecting the bonus character to be handled like shale so no surprise there. i'm preordering mainly for the soundtrack, the items and character are the bonus to that at least for me.

No but EA always does that. The CE of Sims3 was supposed to have ten dollars worth of Simpoints -> Every new copy got it; DA:O´s Shale was first marketed only for the collector´s edition -> Every new copy got it. The same happened with ME2 and the Cerberus Network.

EA even has an official ten-dollar-policy: Every new game comes with ten dollars worth of DLC to animate players to purchase new copies and not used ones. So some of this content will be free to everyone, the rest available for purchase after release.

Edit:
If you check the announcement only the items are exclusive bonus, the character is just called bonus so it is pretty certain that everyone will get him/her.

... the fact is they are giving a discount if you pre-order the game by January 11th... How is that bad?[/b] Or do you think that they should extend the discount till you, personally, are ready to make a purchasing decision?

I mean, I could understand if you were forced to make the purchase, but you are not.

The beauty is that I am not forced, so I can reject it. However, if I take the risk then I should be able to make a reasonable decision based on available information. And some vague information or a statement like "We will reveal more closer to the release date" is not in my best interest.

I am not against pre-ordering games. As a matter of fact I have pre-ordered both the Digital Deluxe versions (the Steam variation of the Collector's Edition) of DA:O and ME2. The difference in those days was that I was able to make a better judgment, because BW did reveal more information at the time. But now they have stretched the pre-order closing date to two months before the release date and thus limiting the information to base the decision on.

You are of course free to trust these practices. Follow the company blindly if you must. I am sure that they haven't disappointed you yet. I am more cautious, though. And like nightcobra8928 said "it all depends on how much more info/screens/videos we get until the new year really, i'm hoping for a few official gameplay videos by then but that's my viewpoint on it." Looks like solid advice. I'll do the same.

Then why the god forbid someone uses a Bio Dev as a source "if" they are being honest?

That you need to even ask that proves you haven't been paying attention.

That you say that proves that you are just trying to dodge the question.

Actually it was a comment on your reading comprehension of the last page or two

Why do you feel the need to comment on my reading comprehension. I don't comment on your interpersonal skills do I? I don't think I've given you that kind of proximity.

This deal is not preventing that though. If you don't think that you, personally, can come to a decision by January 11th, then you will miss the discount, but why is that wrong, bad, or preventing anything?

The difference in those days was that I was able to make a better judgment, because BW did reveal more information at the time. But now they have stretched the pre-order closing date to two months before the release date and thus limiting the information to base the decision on.

Because this is a discount for a specific edition of the product. you have all the time you want to make a decision to buy/pre-order the game at a later date, just w/o the discount(which they did not offer with DAO).

You are of course free to trust these practices. Follow the company blindly if you must. I am sure that they haven't disappointed you yet.

I'm not following it blindly, but I guess whatever makes you think your decisions are superior. Blindly would infer I have no basis for trusting in the product outside of faith. However, if I have enjoyed every game they have made, then I have more then enough info to expect the same results.

For me, Bioware has earned that trust. They obviously haven't for you, but trying to find flaws in why people don't make purchases over the same items as you... well whatever floats your boat, I guess.

Change your store. For example amazon allows to cancel a preorder without any cost, right until the game is prepared for shipping. Preordering games is always a risky buisness, because you never can be sure what you will get, because reviews both by professionals and fans alike always only come out after the game released and it is too late for preordering.

Ok. Its that tiem again. Time for reality bending, life altering rights issues.

If you ever tried to preorder anything other than luxury items affordable by non-profit making private institutions (including individuals) IRL you would belaughed at. Know why? It is economically stupefying and almost certainly leads to some kind of loss. Read about it. If the gaming consumers were really concerned  and knew consumer protection law they would actually see this as a fact.

Why it does not happen is because we ALLOW it to happen unchallenged.... Not that I mind anyway.. I am personally going to order after the prices drop and resold ones too on Amazon.

Where is that 2 year DLC support? Where are the patches that fix the numerous bugs? Where is that serial number of that staff? And weren't we promised to get info "within a couple of weeks" about that new community event? How many months ago was this again? But if that does not crush you trust in them then I do think you are following them blindly.
