However, if I take the risk then I should be able to make a reasonable decision based on available information. And some vague information or a statement like "We will reveal more closer to the release date" is not in my best interest.
This deal is not preventing that though. If you don't think that you, personally, can come to a decision by January 11th, then you will miss the discount, but why is that wrong, bad, or preventing anything?
The difference in those days was that I was able to make a better judgment, because BW did reveal more information at the time. But now they have stretched the pre-order closing date to two months before the release date and thus limiting the information to base the decision on.
Because this is a discount for a specific edition of the product. you have all the time you want to make a decision to buy/pre-order the game at a later date, just w/o the discount(which they did not offer with DAO).
You are of course free to trust these practices. Follow the company blindly if you must. I am sure that they haven't disappointed you yet.
I'm not following it blindly, but I guess whatever makes you think your decisions are superior. Blindly would infer I have no basis for trusting in the product outside of faith. However, if I have enjoyed every game they have made, then I have more then enough info to expect the same results.
For me, Bioware has earned that trust. They obviously haven't for you, but trying to find flaws in why people don't make purchases over the same items as you... well whatever floats your boat, I guess.
