Four words - Inferno Armour/Equalizer Pack

That's why i'll never ever fork out for another BioWare exclusive edition, of any game. I don't mind the fact they released the piece of armour as extra content, it's the fact they bundled it together with other content that wasn't included. So if i had wanted the other content i would have had no choice but to pay for the Inferno armour 2 times over. So yeah, BioWare can [go fly a kite].

[Inappropriate comments edited.]

Inferno Armor was a pre-order bonus, what the hell are you talking about?

Pre ordering a product usually means you're comitted to buying the game full price regardless of any reduced offers once the game is released.  if you can't get your head around that one; how about the incisor rifle that came with the digital deluxe version?  Correct me if I'm wrong here, and I'm sure you're just itching to, but that was later released as part of the Aegis pack.

My question and problem is this: They're touting that the stuff is free. Pre-order now and you get $20 worth of stuff free. However, the games costs $60 which is $20 more than usual for a PC game. So where is the free?

yeah same with ps3, hence my question why is it 79.99 as opposed to 59.99.

I paid $64 for the Xbox 360 Signature edition.

And PC games are only $10 cheaper than console games.

I find that a bit strange, from our perspective. We make a complete game-- from concept on up-- and then at some point we start considering what extra content we want to make available for DLC. The timing of it is irrelevant simply because it's extra-- if it wasn't for DLC, it wouldn't exist at all. It seems that some people seem to think that because the extra content exists, they are somehow entitled to it.

It's all well and good that this is the inside perspective, but you should listen to how it feels to your customers.  Even as someone who has bought every Bioware PC game ever made and who would have Dragon Age 2 pre-ordered by now anyway it feels like some of the game content is missing for some people, or that some of the game content is locked away behind an EA account.  Customers want to go buy the game and get the entire game, they don't want to play decipher the content.

And you feel that way even though you know it's irrational.

It's a fair point. Bioware has to take their customers as they are, not assume that they'll understand how things actually work.

You do realize this is easily taken care of by simply charging $20 for the extra content to those that don't pre-order before the deadline. That'd be where the free comes in. Not saying that's the case, just that until such a time happens, you can't say one way or the other.

Look at the DA:O extras that were available, for example. I don't think it unreasonable to think they can do the same thing with the extra content in the SI version of DA2.

For the most part, yes.  I trust that when they say the add-on content was always intended to be outside the game they are not lying, and other than Shale it all feels like add-on content.  There's a difference between realizing that though and being content with it.  For the guy who pays no attention to gaming news and will just pick up Dragon Age 2 when he sees it on the shelf I doubt it will feel like anything other than "hey I'm missing content!"

Can the devs please explain the reason for this price change? Is it just a mistake or is this the new price tag? I'm pretty darn sure that it was 50 bucks up until today, and all of a sudden it's 60 everywhere.

I'd be curious to know that too.  I pre-ordered with Amazon when it was $50 and still listed as the standard edition, and received an email saying I was automatically upgraded to the special edition.  Now each system has it listed as the special edition and is at $60.  I'd like to think that there was a miscommunication since it doesn't make sense to have the price increase when the extras are supposed to be free.

So does this mean that if you don't preorder, the game will cost $80? How many people are going to pay $80? Or do you propose that the game will cost $60 and those who do not pre-oder will get something less than what the pre-order folks get? Either way, it's a marketing nightmare in my opinion.

Then I think you're buying your games in the wrong place. I didn't pay $50 for DA:O. I paid $40. And I ALWAYS pay for my games!

Glad I had a pre-order in when when it was $50!

:( stupid me...I should have pre-ordered the game when I had the chance. Anyway I messaged Chris Priestly and he told me that it's a pricing mistake on the retailer's part. Hoping they fix it soon :)

Haven't you been paying attention? Pre-order and you get more stuff is not anything Kevin Lynch is proposing. That's the announced plan.

Yes I've been "listening!" Have you?

I will summarize:

The game offers a free upgrade to Silver for those who pre-order. The upgrade is supposedly $20 in extras! The current pre-order price (except at Best Buy last  I checked) is $60.00. This implies several things to me. If you wait and want the extras, then you'll have to pay $80 for this game. Or, if you  wait, you'll pay $40 for a game that does not include the extras. From previous post, those who have already pre-ordered paid $50. So they are effectively only getting $10 worth of extras. No matter how you look at it, this whole thing is a marketing nightmare and should be clarified in a manner that makes sense.

No offense intended but this whole thing leaves a bad taste in my mouth. But as someone else so eloquently put it, I don't have to buy the game. True that!
