In a day and age where pre-order items and exclusive extra content is expected by everyone, it's easy to take things for granted. But some of us remember a time when company's didn't give out such wonderful rewards to their loyal customers. For those of us, we are thankful that Bioware thought of us when making the Signature Edition of DA 2.

It may strike the entitlement generation as strange that a company is offering exclusive content to folks who want to buy a game that is five months out from release. There are those conspiracy theorists out there who think this is just a ploy to avoid piracy. These are the folks who well yell and scream and refuse to pre-order the game (or will pre-order but demand that they receive more for their efforts and will denounce Bioware for daring to offer something extra to begin with). That's their perogative. They are free to think that way and hold those opinions.

Regardless, I personally am thankful, as a fan, that I and my fellow fans are being treated and rewarded. Thanks Bioware, you didn't have to offer an extra character and extra content but you did anyway. And you're not even charging us for it. You rock.

Can't wait to play DA 2 in March.

It's not really a "gift" to loyal fans when you pay extra money for it. Image IPB

If customers want to pay extra then it is nice when game companies release collector's editions and such though. Sometimes they can be worth it but that depends solely on the purchaser of course, and the expectations they have.

funny thing is, you don't have to pay extra money for it. if you pre ordered a regular edition before 11th january, your preorder automatically upgrades to the signatured version

I worry that sometimes we don't say thanks enough around here. Maybe this just makes me look like a sheep that has fallen for EA's Marketting, but I genuinely support this franchise and all the developers and writers that are working on it. I would have paid extra for a collector's edition if I had to. As consumers, we vote with our wallets. But sometimes saying "thank you" once in awhile helps as well.

I made a topic just a couple days ago about liking the direction the game was going in, just telling the devs they were doing a great job, and it filled up with hate so fast it was locked. I t's gotta be demoralizing at times for the devs, looking at these forums. Fortunately they seem to have the sense and skin to know most appreciate their work and forums tend to just be a cesspool of negativity by a blindly angry minority.

I'm preordering the game regardless of any preorder bonuses. I'm thankful they're making the game and impressed by the great job they're doing so far. I don't need any gimmicky perks to be thankful for all the work being put into this game. They're just a cherry on top of the sunday. If there is anything to thank them for, it's the actual work Bioware's putting into the game, and not just the marketting gimmicks by EA.

Ah, so the Signature Edition is different than the Collector's Edition or are they only doing a Signature Edition? I suppose people pre-ordering are still doing them a favor in a way, since pre-orders are sort of a pre-release polling of a game's success. Also it can boost initial sales which bolster long term sales. Bioware still gets something out of it. It's just good marketing. Image IPB

As far as I can tell, Ryllen, the signature edition IS the collector's edition. But don't quote me on it.

Now guys, I like Bioware as much as the next guy, so dont misinterpret what i'm gonna say here, but thanking them is really kind of silly.

The truth is they're not doing this for you. The PR is "a gift for all our loyal customers" but that simply isn't true. They wouldn't simply give away this stuff if they didn't think they'd get a return on it. It may be a plus for you guys who were preordering it anyway, but you're not who they're looking at with this. They're trying to get the people who are on the fence about the game, those that will wait for a price cut or when it's used, or the (much wiser) people who will wait for the "Ultimate" edition with all the DLC packed in.

Hate to say it guys, but this was never about you.

Like I said, I like Bioware. They make good games that I enjoy playing. But nothing Bioware does is charitable, that's not how business works. The Signature Edition isn't a gift and you have nothing to be thanking them for.

EDIT: Just want to make it clear i'm not hating on Bioware here. I may actually get the Sig Edition once I see more gameplay footage.

Thanks for preordering or having content cut from the game for waiting to see how it will turn out?

Thanks for giving me a good reason to wait for GotY and save the money I would have spent in an actual CE.

It's not charity, but why can't it just be mutually beneficial? They want to thank their fans AND encourage people to commit to buying, we get extra stuff for no extra money. Everybody wins.

I'll withhold my personal thanks until the SE gets put on Steam, however. *crosses fingers*

It's marketing, folks. Doesn't mean its not potentially quite generous, especially if I were to pre-order and the game turned out to be excellent.

However, I was miffed about the lack of customization in ME2, only to see a whole variety of new armor and weapons made available post release, and for a price. It simply struck me as a little stingy on Bioware's part.

Apart from people who like to know if the game is any good before parting with their cash.  And people who want to buy or sell second hand.

Which is why I don't preorder from companies whose games I have a mixed or negative experience with.  Personally, Bioware is not one of those companies.  My expectation for a bare minimum level of quality is still high enough to warrant a buy.  Your mileage may vary.

Second hand seems to be next to piracy in the threat list to companies. And it´s just strange that preordering SE ends by the time DA2 marketing should be getting strong.

See, that's the thing. There used to be a time when people didn't pre-order products or they didn't receive anything special for doing so. So suddenly loyal customers are being rewarded and some folks feel left out? It's bonus content, it's not "must have this DLC or you'll miss the major plot point of the game" content. It's extra. Icing on the cake. The cherry on top. If people are skeptical of the game, they don't have to pre-order. But for those of us who will play the game regardless of the reviews (and expect more previews to happen before March and probably even before January), then we are comfortable with making this purchase. If you're not comfortable, don't buy. You don't lose anything important by making that choice.

Well here's where the "glass half full/half empty" thing comes in. I see the extra content as just that: extra. So I don't see it as punishment not to get extra stuff.

But not if you buy it in a store on release date or shortly thereafter. :bandit: Besides, how do they even keep track of which people have pre-ordered? It's not like all stores upload their lists of pre-ordering customers to the internet. Some stores don't even have such lists digitalised...

That's because games used to be shipped in a fairly complete state instead of being chopped up for the sake of marketing.

A handful of items is OK. A character is not, unless it´s Zaeed level.

I'd consider an extra companion to be significant content, which they're either leaving out of the game to get people to buy a pig in a poke, or misleadingly implying you need to preorder to get.
