There used to be a time when people didn't pre-order products or they didn't receive anything special for doing so.

Horrible. I know.

I haven't had any major complaints about the games I've purchased in the last few years, most of which have been RPGs, but I'm one of those "glass is half full of Bailey's and milk" kinda girls.

Second hand seems to be next to piracy in the threat list to companies. And it´s just strange that preordering SE ends by the time DA2 marketing should be getting strong.

CONSPIRACY THEORIST! CONSPIRACY THEORIST!

/kidding.

No really, one of the reasons I broke down and bought The Witcher was all the extra goodies the enhanced edition came with. Same for GOTY version of Fallout 3. Offering bonus content is good, but buying the game months before release is something I will never get in the habit of doing.

Hey that's cool, slimgrin, it's ok to not pre-order things if you don't want to. I only get irritated when people try to twist things around and make it sound like people are being punished when Bioware is offering something they don't have to offer at all.

I bet our moms would get along quite well :D

If this was Fark.com I believe saying "How you doin?" in a tongue-in-cheek manner would be mandatory.

But it's not, so I will instead scoff and say my glass is completely full of bourbon.  Then pretend to jingle the ice in the glass.

In my dealings with businesses, I try to be the sort of person who'll send their glass back unless it's properly full. And bigger too.

Glasses are bigger down here, it's mandatory. Also, they are called schnooers (gosh did I spell that right?) but I didn't want to confuse people. The other half is usually filled with ice.

It's not really a "gift" to loyal fans when you pay extra money for it. Image IPB

If customers want to pay extra then it is nice when game companies release collector's editions and such though. Sometimes they can be worth it but that depends solely on the purchaser of course, and the expectations they have.

Exactly.

If they'd offered it to everyone, I'd agree. But now it feels like Bioware is giving out pie and telling some people they can't have any - either because they live in the wrong country or because they prefer to buy games in brack-and-mortar stores on a date close to release.

Such discrimination irritates ME. <_<

Eegad woman! You should get that checked out! I heard that isn't exactly healthy for you!

Oh, and yay for the Sig. Edition. It just made it that much easier to finish paying off the preorder. But it made it harder to want to shift that money over to preordering ME2.

Looking like a ray of sunshine, you mean? Well there was this one incident with a nuclear reactor last week...

What irks me about all this is that they gladly take preorders and such and get that info out the door double fast, yet have we seen anything actually about the game itself beyond a handful of screens, some bootleg shaky cam, and previews from the same Blightlands exaggerated scenes over and over again?

Thats fine for people that are sold on what little info is available and I'd hope they release some more substantial stuff between now and January. I really don't care about the extra weapons and stuff but its the whole holding a character hostage part unless you blindly preorder that irks me about this.

You guys are incredibly efficient, you know that? I go for like 15 minutes and we're already almost at page 3.

It's not charity, but why can't it just be mutually beneficial? They want to thank their fans AND encourage people to commit to buying, we get extra stuff for no extra money. Everybody wins.

I'll withhold my personal thanks until the SE gets put on Steam, however. *crosses fingers*

But that's what i'm saying. They dont want to thank their fans, which is fine. It was never about us. Bioware believes that our purchase is pretty much garenteed as it is. Who they're going for with this are the people who would normally wait until they bundle all the DLC or would buy used. It's about making a bigger profit by offering more now. Again, that's perfectly fine, but they're still not really doing you any favors.

But you are correct in that everybody wins (Except for the people who buy late I suppose).

You should probably call the police and report the Bioware/EA representative who is apparently holding a gun to your head, forcing you to make a decision before Jan 11.

What worries me is the fact that they still haven't deigned to show any PC footage whatsoever.

That does evoke concern. Seems like they have a distinct lack of faith in their own product.

I guess what I was trying to say was, just because they're gaining from this offer in a financial sense, does not mean they aren't *also* thankful to their fanbase for support.

I suppose I like to see companies as less malevolent than a lot of people here do.

But I agree that I'd like to see more information. There really hasn't been much thus far.

His point is sound. Your melodrama isn't. Thread is about to explode, so I take my leave.

I reckon, Brockololly, that this is the beginning of their heavy marketting campaign. Now they've cast the net, time to add in the lollies and biscuits to draw us in closer (er, candy and cookies). They're going to have to get started soon at any rate as the holiday season is approaching and they've gotta hold our interest through that madness.

Bioware exists and has provided examples of its good works.  Silly comparison to religion fails.

Come to think of it, actually this could legitimately be used as an example of loyalty.  They are asking us to believe in their new game despite a lack of solid of information on it.  Instead they are asking you to make a decision based on a past relationship.   Does that mean that being loyal will be rewarded with an ultimately great game that meets all our expectations?  No, but that's part of what loyalty is.

Loyalty is NOT happily buying someone's games until they might change a feature you like, then saying you were loyal.  That's not how it works.

That wasn't melodrama.  I was brazenly mocking his position.  Different.  Still pretty invalid though, doesn't mean I can't have any fun.

Omg, I just discovered the most delicious dark chocolate TimTams, I was eating them while reading the "Will DA2 be as dark as DA:O" thread.

Hmm, I had this pre-ordered with play.com but they still don't show as having the Signature Edition so I ordered with GAME at ten quid extra, hopefully I might get an upgrade with the play order, but seeing as they never had an ME2 Collectors Edition I'm not holding up much hope, I'd guess they have an exclusive deal with EA.

It's a great incentive to pre-order, but I can completely understand the scepticism.

I've never had a TimTam. We have no such things over here :crying:

Actually I could probably find some but I'd have to go track em down at a specialty store.
