Bioware exists and has provided examples of its good works.  Silly comparison to religion fails.

Come to think of it, actually this could legitimately be used as an example of loyalty.  They are asking us to believe in their new game despite a lack of solid of information on it.  Instead they are asking you to make a decision based on a past relationship.   Does that mean that being loyal will be rewarded with an ultimately great game that meets all our expectations?  No, but that's part of what loyalty is.

Loyalty is NOT happily buying someone's games until they might change a feature you like, then saying you were loyal.  That's not how it works.

The bolded part reminds me of Adama´s definition of trust.

On the other side, keep buying regardless of what is done out of loyalty despite not liking it just encourages that attitude. And marketing a game with extras instead of gameplay or plot (which I haveno doubt it´ll be good/great) doesn´t give good vibes.

I reckon, Brockololly, that this is the beginning of their heavy marketting campaign. Now they've cast the net, time to add in the lollies and biscuits to draw us in closer (er, candy and cookies). They're going to have to get started soon at any rate as the holiday season is approaching and they've gotta hold our interest through that madness.

I hope so. Gimme my lollies and biscuits!

Omg, I just discovered the most delicious dark chocolate TimTams, I was eating them while reading the "Will DA2 be as dark as DA:O" thread.

I've never had a TimTam. We have no such things over here :crying:

Actually I could probably find some but I'd have to go track em down at a specialty store.

Do you have a Trader Joe's? I hear some store of that description has them. They come in ridiculously small packages though so make sure to buy a few different flavours if you find some.

I wonder.. does Sten's cookie fetish extend to all Qunari? Perhaps we will learn more about Qunari cuisine in DA 2.

They sell them at Trader Joe's?? I never knew. Trader Joe's is a place of joy and wonder.

We'd have to carpet-bomb Qunari territory with cookies to find out. The poor souls don't know what they're missing.

It just so happens I'm rewatching Battlestar Galactica right now.  And just when I read your post Boomer was in the middle of, well... it was the very end of "Kobol's Last Gleaming (Part 2)."  Talk about a random coincidence.

Anyway, I didn't advocate necessarily continuing to buy things you openly dislike, more about managing your skepticism and being positive at least until they have given concrete reason to earn such distrust.  Your point is taken, however.

Ok, I'll give you a few cool points for mentioning Adama. But that's all.

Again, I am not here to convince people that they should pre-order. If people don't want to do it, that's totally ok. I'm just trying to let Bioware know that not all of us see their generosity as something negative.

Dude, Shorts, get out of my head. That's creepy man. :alien:

If it was a free code to get post-release DLC (ie, DLC coming out months later) then that would be a free gift. Any content given to buyers of the SE could easily be put in the main game. They are not gifts, BioWare is forcing you to buy the game at a certain time or else pay even more to get the full game.

it's a way to incentive players to buy the game fullpriced instead of used or second hand, and you know what? i agree with it since most used games profit doesn't go to bioware but rather the store like gamestop. i'd rather give my money to the people who made the game than the store who sold me the game.

It's not charity, but why can't it just be mutually beneficial? They want to thank their fans AND encourage people to commit to buying, we get extra stuff for no extra money. Everybody wins.

Apart from people who like to know if the game is any good before parting with their cash.  And people who want to buy or sell second hand.

See, that's the thing. There used to be a time when people didn't pre-order products or they didn't receive anything special for doing so. So suddenly loyal customers are being rewarded and some folks feel left out? It's bonus content, it's not "must have this DLC or you'll miss the major plot point of the game" content. It's extra. Icing on the cake. The cherry on top. If people are skeptical of the game, they don't have to pre-order. But for those of us who will play the game regardless of the reviews (and expect more previews to happen before March and probably even before January), then we are comfortable with making this purchase. If you're not comfortable, don't buy. You don't lose anything important by making that choice.

No.

In the past when you bought (FOR EXAMPLE) Jade Empire on the day of release, a week later, a month later, a year later (FOR EXAMPLE) Henpecked Hou was in the game

It seems that people just won't be satisfied with anything. Even if it did come with a bunch of other stuff, I'm sure they'll still be people complaining it's not enough.

I'm pleased as punch we're getting what we're getting (then again, I'm always happy when there's extras. Especially a soundtrack). I have faith in Bioware that DA2 will be a quality game and these extra little perks are a generous (whether intentionally or just a marketing thing) offering.

I can understand the complaint about the SE not being available everywhere, but it was said that all the locations haven't been listed yet, and there is still plenty of time before the pre-order "deadline." Some people raging in the announcement thread need to relax, have a cup of tea and have a little patience XD

I wonder how long it'll take everyone to realize the upgrade to the Signature Edition is free until January.

Then again, some people still don't know Varric's exaggerating, so...

That said, I agree with your point wholeheartedly. It's an opportunity to get extra goodies for a game we (well, most of us) want desperately. For free. There's no reason we shouldn't say thanks.

Hmm this may well depend upon with which company you had the pre-order though.

What's your point?

If I want to buy this game in Jan 2012 I shouldn't be punished for that.

It's a Pre-Order REWARD. Once the game is out, you can't very well keep pre-ordering it can you? Why should you be rewarded for being a normal customer who buys things after they've released? What makes that customer special or as special as the loyal fan who followed the game prior to its release and put in a pre-order? Nobody is being punished here and nobody is being forced to buy something they don't want to buy. It's a choice to buy the pre-order. If you don't make that choice, you don't get those benefits.

It's not really a gift when its just a marketing ploy to get people to pay months in advance either, when we have very little information to go on in regards to the mechanics of the game being something quite a few of us will even enjoy at this point. But the fanboys will suck it up like it is.

How so? If I don't buy the Collector's Edition of a game, I shouldn't whine that I didn't get the Collector's Edition items.

You do know that you can cancel a preorder if you don't like what you see near release, right?

Unless you DESPERATELY need that 5 dollars.

My point is that people should stop biting the hand that feeds. You want extras? Pre-order. You don't want extras? Don't. Either way, it's a FREE UPGRADE. The retailers aren't putting you on your knees in the corner.

Feel free to conveniently redefine what the word "loyal" means in order to suit your purposes, however.  It's what I expect at this point.

I'm not so sure, I've never had to pay for any online pre-order until the day it is dispatched, it's quite an interesting bonus but I understand the scepticism.

So you deserve more than little Timmy O'Toole who just discovers the series on June 26th?

This obession with pre-ordering is ridiculous.  A copy I buy on October 30th 2011 is just as valid as the one you "loyally" pre-order on January 1st 2011.  Having content cut or having to pay more because of when you decide to a game is pathetic coperate shilling.

That's not really the point Dave, I'm just looking at it for what it really is, a marketing ploy.

Well it is a bit questionable to sell a game while at the same time saying that not even a gameplay trailer is ready. But then again that's how it goes. I doubt EA and Bioware are the only ones doing that. So why would Bioware or EA take a disadvantage to other companies? It would be different if there were laws against it, which are not. Blame the politicians, that always works

This is the same sort of outcry that happened with the Staff of Parlathan item, isn't it? Granted that was bungled a bit by the code not going out to a lot of people that were supposed to get it but people did get worked up over it. It just sort of amuses and saddens me that people feel so entitled to things that are given to them freely. Boggles the mind, really.

I put 10 dollars on my 360 and PC version just in case of a collectors edition and I'll be tickled pink if I don't have to pay extra for it and the signature IS the CE. Either way I'm ready for it and I can't wait! =3

Thank you Bioware, I wub joo!
