But the fanboys loyal customers will suck it up like it is.

Feel free to conveniently redefine what the word "loyal" means in order to suit your purposes, however.  It's what I expect at this point.

LOL I'd say I'm loyal, looking at my collection of games that mostly say Bioware on the disc, there's a difference between being loyal and utterly willing to accept every design decision no matter what it is.

I wouldn't say that makes you a loyal customer, just a consistent one.  Loyal customers trust the sellers they do business with, and that's the difference.  That doesn't mean I think all people ought to sign up for the pre-order immediately, mind you.

Fanboy is an alarmingly stupid term that really ought to be reserved for people who "root" for things like which console is best, and attach their egos to nonsense like the xbox 360's failure rate or the sales figures of Apple products.

I think we're a bit more intelligent than the average fangurl/fanboy who blindly sucks up to a product/company and blindly defends it. Many of us have already said in this very thread that it's ok if you don't want to pre-order. If you don't like the strategy, if you think it's just a marketting gimmick, that's fine. You can think that and vote with your wallet. Doesn't hurt our feelings though. We're not going to dictate what you can and can't do.

That's not really the point Dave, I'm just looking at it for what it really is, a marketing ploy.

Isn't that the purpose of showing screenshots, presenting game-footage, holding contests and hosting webpages and forums such as these as well?

It's a business. Everything it shows is marketing. Doesn't mean it cannot be nice (which I think this is, in case that wan't clear).

This is the same sort of outcry that happened with the Staff of Parlathan item, isn't it? Granted that was bungled a bit by the code not going out to a lot of people that were supposed to get it but people did get worked up over it. It just sort of amuses and saddens me that people feel so entitled to things that are given to them freely. Boggles the mind, really.

I think the SoP outcry is more because of the signing the newsletter not working for so many people. How come no one tested whether that worked? A lot of that in DA lately -Witch Hunt.

Ok, so the fact that I've bought every bioware game doesn't make me a loyal customer. Gotcha. :wizard:

Freely? People signed up for the freakin' newsletter to get the staff. It was promised to them. Of course they are entitled to it.

For a whole lot of people BioWare didn't keep up their end of the deal. In any other industry this would be considered fraud.

Dur. It was free. No one spent money when they signed up for that newsletter. How the hell can fraud be committed when no money exchanged hands?

Money has nothing to do with it. If a salesman stops by my house and offers me a free item if I sign up to receive his newsletter and then don't receive the item as per the agreement what on earth do you think that is?

BioWare entered an agreement with these people. An agreement which they failed to uphold.

That's you being a sucker. If you spent money and were supposed to get something free for making the purchase but didn't receive it, sure that'd be fraud.

There was no EULA signed upon registering for the newsletter so, no, they didn't enter an agreement with anyone.

Which doesn't change the fact that the salesman is responsible for fraud.

I rather think it depends on whether you're viewing it as legally or morally fraudulent.

I'm still pretty much on the fence about DA2.  After playing ME the PC voice acting will make it or break it for me as I'd like to be able to play DA2 w/out my ears bleeding.  Anyway, even though I'm still on the fence and even though this is a marketing ploy, it's one of the better ones I've seen.  This is a win/win for both sides.  So, yeah, thanks, BW, this is pretty cool. :D

Heh, it's just as amusing to me to see people treating this as a favor Bioware is doing for their fans out of the generosity of their hearts as it is to see people upset about the usual shenanigans of entertainment promos. Thank you for trying to manipulate money out of me?? Ok, whatever!

Looks fun. I will purchase it and by doing so support Bioware and their products in the future.

Plus the likely lack of a toolset for DA2 means I will probably want all the extra items I can get. heh.

I think it goes back to Anarya's "glass is half full or glass is half empty" point. I was just trying to generate something positive out of something that was receiving a lot of negative attention. At the end of the day, consumers are free to make up their own minds. And I don't see enough thank you threads on these forums so.. yeah I combined it together.

The fact that I don't have to pay extra for it makes me - say whaaaat?!

Heh heh, very happy with this.

Might even get 2 pre-orders :o *I play on Xbox, my brother plays on PS3* We usually just share games but ... not this time.

Considering most of the people pre-ordering it for the SE (and thanking BioWare in the process for the free upgrade) were already going to pre-order it no matter what, I don't see the SE being manipulative at all. I'm not claiming BioWare is doing this because they're a bunch of samaritans. It's mutually beneficial, something we're not really used to these days. If you want extra stuff, you're usually forced to pay more for it. Especially considering this is the CE.

I actually like this Signature Edititon idea. Now theres no more Gamestop gets this sword, Steam gets that armor, Impulse gets some smelly cheese, Wal-mart gets a yellow happy face tattoo... etc. It's kind of a pre-order bonus for everyone. I'm just sad there is no Collector's Signature Edition... but then that starts to go all Halo and CoD on collector's editions with their 15 different versions ranging from +$10 to +$(whatever your soul is worth).

I'm sorry, but I simply have to comment on this. If I buy the game on release date and you pre-order, you get more content despite both of us paying the same. I get less for being judicious.

Unless I'm missing something here, Bioware seems to like you better than me. :(

What?! Impulse got smelly cheese? No fair, I demand it be sold seperately, no wait, I demand that it be offered freely because I paid for all the other DLC possible and I'm entitled to a bit of cheese, damn it.

/sarcasm off

Mmk, that's my cue to go to sleep soon.

Are we certain of this? Maybe normal edition will have those extras. Just hope they don´t go that promos for brands that are then limited because of some weird copyright.
