I'm sorry, but I simply have to comment on this. If I buy the game on release date and you pre-order, you get more content despite both of us paying the same. I get less for being judicious.
Unless I'm missing something here, Bioware seems to like you better than me.
Nah, I like BioWare more than you. Been a fan since day 1.

Mage Hate = win. That would be hillarious expecially if it was a DA:O one. I'd so wear it to work or at the least grochery shopping.

Uh, ok. I guess there is something to be said for the rah-rah pep talk, when I'm sure the devs get weary of criticism for something they are no doubt working hard on. But I think I'll reserve my kudos until and if I see the content is worth the hype. Origins itself was worth every penny and more, but the DLCs have been pretty disappointing, promising a lot and not delivering. That plus all the announced changes for DA2 have definitely put me in caveat emptor mode.leonia42 wrote...

I think it goes back to Anarya's "glass is half full or glass is half empty" point. I was just trying to generate something positive out of something that was receiving a lot of negative attention. At the end of the day, consumers are free to make up their own minds. And I don't see enough thank you threads on these forums so.. yeah I combined it together.

it's a way to incentive players to buy the game fullpriced instead of used or second hand, and you know what? i agree with it since most used games profit doesn't go to bioware but rather the store like gamestop. i'd rather give my money to the people who made the game than the store who sold me the game.

The offer stands until January 11 2011. By that time, I am sure we would have learned more about the game, enough to know whether the game will be worth it or not. So give them a break.

Come one Sarah... You are not supposed to think. Instead you have to be a fan who trusts BW to appreciate the offer. You have to "reserve judgment until after release". People must have told you that hundreds of times. You should give your money to BW without questioning their ability to make great games. After all: BW is a leader in RPGs. Their stories never disappoint. Never ever will BW give in to the hack & slash and action game crowd. Nor would they dream of polluting DA:O with any ME2 crap. It's not a marketing trick. It's just a favor to their most loyal fans. The company wouldn't dream of taking advantage of that. Pointing anything like that out before the release is wasting your breath. Even if BW gives you the impression that they want to hear your opinion, don't give in! It's dangerous to think. And people might think you were whinging. Oh dear. We wouldn't want that! You of all people should know better than that. Aaargh. You have to tell Sarah everything. She can she sooo stubborn.CoS Sarah Jinstar wrote...

Ok, so the fact that I've bought every bioware game doesn't make me a loyal customer. Gotcha.

We're not being bribed. Most of us were going to pre-order anyway. And now we're getting free stuff because we are. I don't see how it's idiotic that we're excited about this. Everyone loves swag; why can't we love this?Akka le Vil wrote...

If you were already going to pre-order, that's one thing. But obviously the promotion is not geared to those people, rather the people in wait and see mode. In which case it's not "$20 worth of stuff for free" but rather "$60 for a game you know very little about".Calla S wrote...
Considering most of the people pre-ordering it for the SE (and thanking BioWare in the process for the free upgrade) were already going to pre-order it no matter what, I don't see the SE being manipulative at all. I'm not claiming BioWare is doing this because they're a bunch of samaritans. It's mutually beneficial, something we're not really used to these days. If you want extra stuff, you're usually forced to pay more for it. Especially considering this is the CE.Addai67 wrote...

I haven't had any major complaints about the games I've purchased in the last few years, most of which have been RPGs, but I'm one of those "glass is half full of Bailey's and milk" kinda girls.
My mom always nags me for being a pessimist. I consider myself a realist, but she should see me on these forums. I look like a ray of goddamn sunshine.
Hah! I am exactly the same. It's pretty hilarious.
And being given near 3 months to decide whether or not you want to take BioWare up on the offer or not is enough time, I think. I am sure from here til January people will have ample time and info to decide. If not, just cancel your pre-order after that point and be on your way.

Can't really see why people are complaining that it is an attempt to make people pre-order early. Of course it is! Bioware are a company who want to sell their product. However there are numerous ways they could have marketed DA2 to achieve this but they have chosen to give fans of their games free content for every title when it could have been paid for DLC or retailer exclusive pre-order bonuses etc. And with no price increase.
As far as not knowing whether the game will be any good... Well that is a risk you take pre-ordering any game? It is obvious we will see gameplay footage and get more info before the deadline on Jan 11th. If you can't make your mind up by then, then this offer is presumably not aimed at you.

You know. Free. Without extra cost. Just for pre-ordering, which is what I was going to do anyway, only this time, without an extra dime on my part, they're adding special new goodies. Sure, it's an incentive to pre-order now rather than later, but it's still free of goddamn charge.
So, I'm disappointed by this thread. Why not make a "Screw You BioWare for Giving Us Free Stuff" thread? Go complain there. I'm grateful.
EDIT: You know, I'd also like to note that "loyalty" is characterized by "faith". If you have reservations, wait. Even if this game is not good, I am loyal to BioWare because I have faith in them. They've never let me down.

There is one. However what ended up happening is the people who are in favor of it ended up posting there, and the people who hate it ended up posting here. In addition to the on-topic comments, thereby making both threads basically the same except for the original post.
It's a microcosm of how this forum tends to work, actually.

1. They'll release more info before January.
2. You can slap 5$ on a preorder and then move it to another game if DA2 doesn't appeal to you near release.

By Wulfram's logic the complimentary breadsticks one gets at a restaurant are an insult to his intelligence because they were made separate from the meal very early in the menu design process.

They should give the bread regardless of what I've ordered.
