I'd disagree unless Lowtown is where the city entrance is located (doubt it though since slaves could've easily fled). The Amells are nobles in Kirkwall, we'd most likely stay in the better portion.

It's clustered around the harbour apparently, and I assume we're going by ship.

i doubt a noble family would want a scandal like having a family member married to an apostate in templar run city though.

Incompetence? Actually, Varric strikes me more as the kind of guy who always knows exactly what he's doing.

I suppose we shall see. It's possible that Bioware learned from their huge blunder, Oghren. Sigrun sort of suggests it's possible.

This what I'm thinking.  The Hawke family will probably go there expecting to get let into better parts of the city, but get stopped at the gate for something or another and find out the mother's family won't be helping them.

The concept art looks nice. I just wish they actually showed what it looks like in-game. The lack of in-game pics of finished towns has me a bit worried.

Oh crap, sewer tunnels. I bet my boots there'll be some murderous thing lurking down there, and guess who'll have to take up disinfestation?  That's right, us.

Seems like this Lowtown'll be the area we start off in. Maybe a quest about finding a house for the family (assuming we have any left )? Or something about dealing with the local crime organization, I always like those types of assignment.
Also, the first concept art is a thing of beauty<3 .

Lowtown sounds like a lot of fun. A bunch of warehouses probably, and the docks, seedy bars and taverns and... other places of "recreation"... mafia run "Pet Shops". Maybe they'll throw in pick-pocketer NPC's that pick-pocket you.
