When is Gaider going to expound on the fact that Morrigan and Allistair are siblings?

If it wasn't for the other references to Arthur and Morgan Le Fay, then yes it would have been far fetched. However, as it is, it's the most likely outcome

David Gaider has said Morrigan's name came from someone he knew rather than as a reference to someone like Morgan Le Fay or the Celtic Goddess Morrigan. Any Arthur/Morgan "references" you believe you are seeing could be purely coincidental, just like her name. So no, it isn't the most likely outcome.

But that is just a conspiracy!

And here I was, thinking DA is "dark" fantasy, when it's simply high fantasy

Lord_Valandil wrote...

It wouldn't make any sense, as Alistair can do the Dark Ritual.

Like I said, read the Arthur/Morgan Le Fey comparisons

So, if there is no incest it isn't dark?

And
it would be kind of hypocrital to say that those people who want a
"Bethany romance" are sick, and then there are some who want Alistair
and Morrigan to be siblings.

I know about Arthur and Morgan, BTW.

I see nothing more dark in DAO than in any other high fantasy game. Incest would have made the game a little darker, but not enough to be called dark fantasy

Meh. I was told ME would be good. Sometimes games get billed as what they aren't.

I don´t think Alistair pararells Arthur, mostly because Calenhad was clearly Arthur, changing that he cheated his queen with the (female) Lancelot expy rather that the queen cheating. Although Gaider could have split the myth.

Funny there are a few TW2 banners, arthurian myths are also present in the books, and the game follows the "return from Avalon when most needed" one.

It's a reference to another thread where a few people were convinced DAO is dark fantasy simply because BioWare said it is

Well it isn't. It's slightly more 'real' but not dark.

What would be "dark" in your humble opinion?
Killing of children? Incest? What?

Huh people seem to forget that for Morrigan and Alistair being siblings, Morrigan needs to be Maric's daughter. Whether Flemeth and Maric got intimate or not doesn't conclude that Morrigan is the result. We don't even know for sure that Morrigan is Flemeth' daughter.

I made this point on the first page. People who want to believe the OP will just hand wave it away. lol

While I hate to allow anything a wroter says after creating his work influence what I think about it, this is pretty cut and dry. There's really no reason to believe Flemeth and Maric had a kid together and even if it they did to believe it is Morrigan.

Both books *seem* to call into question the parentage of Alistair and Morrigan, but honestly, there's no reason to Mr. Gaider to feel like he "has" to explain these mysteries, at least not in DA2. Fiona's child could be someone else entirely. Maric could have been moving furniture for several hours alone with Flemeth in her hut.

Yes, player's experiences are broadened by reading the books, but if one never reads them, their experience isn't lessened by not wondering about these things. Thus, if the questions are answered, it will most likely be in another book.

Or we'll get more questions.

Egad, are you on this again?

And the idea of Flemeth raping Maric...  no, just.  No.  That's not dark, it's all kinds of sick and bad and wrong.  Puppies will die somewhere if Gaider confirms that.

The Witcher. It basically contained: incest, rape, poverty everywhere, constant murders and robbing, cannibals, lots of blood, nudity, sex, drugs and alcohol, profanity, torture, dark bleak outcomes for EVERY action etc.

Dark fantasy needs an dark bleak atmosphere of depression. DAO has a high fantasy atmosphere of LOTR and DnD.

Can we settle on calling DA:O a "shady" fantasy game and be done with it?

Boo! I hate more questions. I've already got a list of DA questions, I don't need more.

Yes but is it a dark grey or closer to white?

Therin lies the problem, my friend.

What problem? It is grey. How grey it is depends on what choices the player makes throughout the game.

Your taste in funny is a bit weird then. There´s a bit of humor, but it´s also rather dark (unless you laugh at the cards, but that´s your choice). The point in TW is that there wasn´t really a really good outcome for the main plot. Even the final victory feels hollow. Being a book fan I can add I really miss Ciri and Yenn.

Anyway, if you find TW funny try Berserk for dark. If you find that funny, try therapy.;)

Mmmmkay, you got me there.
I love the Silent Hill series. I think that DA could improve, but it's highly unlikely that it gets more "dark", or "grey".

By that logic, every single RPG in which you can be a douchebag is "grey" (NwN2, Baldur's Gate, Fable, KOTOR, Jade Empire etc.). Which is bascially my point that DAO is no more dark than any of those games
