i got pretty pissed when they didn't show my sword plunging into connor causing his guts to explode

Is there a reason we can't slaughter children in videogames like we do with adults?

:wizard:

Also i'd like to see more NPCs with cornrow hairstyle i only saw like 3 in origins

It's illegal in a lot of countries.

Is it legal to do off screen?

If the veil gets torn in an orphanage and the children turn into demons can we slaughter them then?

Off screen it's entirely legal, you kill Connor offscreen.

That would be possible, provided they aren't children you're fighting. They have to be like Connor and transform into their "demon forms".

I'm glad someone's banned cornrows.

It became taboo sometime after 2006 (I remember a kid getting impaled that year in the game, Prey)... Don't know when exactly or why, but I highly doubt we'll be able to see kids get killed or actually perform the postpartum abortion ourselves in DA2. Sucks, huh? At least they're not everywhere like in Fallout 3.

Off the top of my head, Britain.

I think the United States is one. Not entirely sure, though. I know you can't kill the kids in Fallout 3 without a mod.

Edit: I could be wrong, but I can't recall a game released in America where the player can kill a kid and see it on screen.

Huh, didn't know it was actually illegal. Always thought it was just one of those "moral stance" things.

Is there a specific age, i know in some countries what age a child becomes an adult differs.

Can we kill a 16 year old?

Hasn't this been asked before? No violence against children is allowed on-screen (or something like that) - not here anyway, as far as I know.

There's also a mod available for Fallout 3 to take care of this 'issue'.

'Course, if you want to go back and kill little children, you could try your hand at Fallout 2.  ;D

What.. why.. you know what, people need to stop confusing dark heroic fantasy for "Let us play a sociopath and show all our grotesque deeds on or near on-screen!" This just really isn't that sort of franchise.

I don't think there's any laws against it and some older games allowed child killing like Deus Ex. But now that more blame and such has been placed on games and video games have become the new scapegoat to blame violence it's not something that's in games anymore.

There are laws against it. Gaider and others have said as much in previous threads on this topic. I know for sure Germany is one such country. It's not a "need to have" feature anyway so why would they alienate some customers from purchasing the game so a few sickos can get their kicks?

Eh, I had it for the console, but traded it in. It was just that one mayor kid who I wanted to give a 10mm lobotomy to anyway.

But I do find that most games sort of get around this issue by making children monstrous. Dead Space had evil octopus-like fetuses (the new one has what looks like mutated 8 year olds), Demon Souls had aborted fetuses with diseased knives (I'm sensing a pattern here), and Silent Hill had some evil demon kids. In fact, when I was looking through Awakening, I expected the Children to be some sort of child darkspawn enemies, but they just looked like pill bugs.

So the only way I can see Bioware having you kill some kids is by turning them into monsters, as I think another Connor situation would not have as much shock value.

It may or may not be illegal but many countries will not allow it to be sold there if it is in the game. The afore mentioned Germany is one, as well as Australia

I'm an Australian and we're barely allowed to kill zombies in games let alone children.

Tell me about it.  I was fined today for walking on the left most side of the footpath while wearing white earplugs between the hours of 8:00am and 9:00am.

How the hell was I meant to know?

But ask them why our crime rate is out of control and how come so many criminals get away with what they do, what do we get?

"Over the last 60 years Australia's crime rate has remained stable and there is no evidence to the contrary, however, you should dead bolt all your doors and windows, don't answer your door to anyone, and don't wander anywhere without a group of at least 16 people.  27 if after 8pm."

<_<  I'm so going to start a principality on one of those little islands off in the middle of nowhere.

Oh and, seriously? Do we need to see children getting killed? I don't think so.  Implied is more than enough if you opt to go that path.

What a Shame.

Also has anyone played Prey?

The rating system here in Australia is rooted, killing kids seems to be fine as they let Prey through yet a game like Risen gets banned because it has prostitution? Hopefully we will get an R rating soon and be rid of all this nonsense. You would be surprised as to what gets through compared to some of the things they ban, wasnt there a game that got banned because it featured grafitti?

Not to mention random killing, decapitation and gore (bloody mess perk, anyone) combined with cannablism gets through, but god forbid you use morphine to kill pain......
