So I'm working my way through Orzammar. I have Oghren, I have Yusaris, Spiked Maul,  Forge Master's Hammer, and Oghren's good old plain red steel battle axe. Which one should he wield? It seems the damage output taken together with armour penetration would be highest with the Spiked Maul, but the -1 to Dex is an irritant. Forge Master's Hammer gives +6 to attack which is nice, but it doesn't hit as hard, and critical chance is very low. The mauls seem much slower in combat too, for this reason I have been using the battle axe which seems to get off many more swings in the same amount of time. However, I am thinking of trying out Yusaris for him, un-dwarflike though it may be. It has high damage and decent speed. Which do you think it should be?

If you have access to DLC items, I enjoy giving him Starfang. But based on the items you have listed, I choose Yusaris for the 20% Fire resistance.

BTW - You should have access to Ageless as well; recovered after the dragon fight from the Throne room in Orzammar.

Thanks. I am still working on the Anvil of the Void, haven't been to the throne room yet.

AFAIK, once you finish the Jarvia quest, the Throne room should be accessable. If you finish the Anvil quest, this side quest will be no longer available.

The throne room in Orzammar is accesable immediatly upon entering Orzammar's  Palace  (that is to say, it's not located in the locked portion of the Palace)

And yes, if you really want Ageless, You'd better pursue it before a King is crowned in Orzammar. Because you can't get it afterwords.

Oh My God. So I'll have to backtrack and redo the whole Anvil Quest...arrgh. Well thanks again. By the way, are there any good battle axes anywhere in Orzammar?

edit: I guess I can return to Orzammar as long as I haven't finished the Anvil quest.

Only one I see besides the new DLC is Faith's Edge, once owned by Kolgrim. See here for details:

Ageless for me. If you can get it then that cool if not then Yusaris. Had Oghren use it, works fine since I do not like Sten much. Starfang does beat them all though. If you do not have dlc then the Chasind great maul is the best even better than Starfang but not by much at least not enough to pay for it if you have Starfang.

Well, only if you really want Ageless.  But really, it's not that great of a weapon.

Metashear and faiths edge  are good as far as  battleaxes go.   And to be honest, I wouldn't  rule out mauls just because their critical chance is so low.  If you strength built your 2-hander,   You'll still be doing more damage with  them due to their strength modifier and their armor penetration.  And you should have acquired enough gold in the Anvil quest to purchase Chasind Great Maul, which is probably the best 2-handed weapon in  Origins.

While this is true, it is still much better for Oghren than his current axe. Plus, who wants to skip a dragon slaying quest?

While true that CGM is the best 2H weapon, in application the lesser seen criticals push me to use the new WH DLC battleaxe or Starfang instead.
