Essentially reselling old stuff is an aim to attract people. How many people would rebuy BG? Probably only the hardcore fans.

The 4 in 1 boxset only requires one DVD to play. Making them compatible with current systems... Well, they work, maybe not 100% smoothly on current systems but I doubt they'll want to go back and play around with the engine. I'm all for a remake that *doesn't* use the DA engine and such, one that looked, played and sounded exactly the same but perhaps with full 3D and everything, but chances are that idea will never come to pass. Meh, we'll see.
Forgot to mention. I agree with this post and i'm also all in for a remake that doesn't use DA engine.

I disagree. Put it on Steam, for instance. People would most likely go mad for it if it were just polished up, but the fact is that Bioware may deem it as too much work to remake the games exactly in a new engine. Even then they'd probably use the DA engine which isn't really ideal for utilizing these rules. On top of that, nobody would really welcome the changes to things like camera and such. The best possible thing they could do would get people giving the ignorant finger to Bioware, saying it's 'not up to scratch' with anything Bioware puts out today.Avathacis wrote...
Because the current RPG market is about graphics and not gameplay, story, immersivity or anything that makes an RPG good. When's the last time you actually saw a good RPG game that's not a rehash of Diablo? (excluding Dragon Age Origins, yet it doesn't beat BG).

As much as the idea is nice, I don't see how it could be executed well.
Well, alright, it'd be awesome (for want of a better word; my mind's dead atm) if Bioware were to say "We don't care, we're repolishing something brilliant for use today and we don't care how many people complain about graphics or how complex it is," but even if they *wanted* to, I'm sure there are legal barriers. I never followed it properly but I seem to recall that Atari has the rights to BG now.

That's kinda the point i was making or else i fail at comprehending. If it's latter i'm sorry. I generally meant that you would have to make BG2 all shiny and new for people to buy it. People nowadays seem to not care much about gameplay and care lots about graphics.
Not that i'm against having good gfx and good gameplay, but it seems developers focus on gfx and not on gameplay. I believe it should be different.

Even if we choose to forget the GoG releases, Baldur's Gate I and II were pretty well off. Orginal versions work on Vista without any issues at all and have been available in DVD for ages. Since Atari has been re-releasing them quite a few times, both games, both expansions are very easy to come across. Actually buying the Baldur's Gate 4 in 1 box set is propably cheaper than picking the entire saga from Gog.
It's really nice how well Infinity games get along with modern OS. BGs, Icewind Dale I&II, Torment..they all work on Vista without any issues.

BioWare have no involvement with the Baldur's Gate games now. The license to publish the games is held by Atari, and they will decide when and where to release these games.pokeyco1984 wrote...
these games are great. why dosent bioware take a page from EA and the command and conquer series and up date these on to dvds and make them compatable with current systems. imagine BG1 and only needing 1 disk to play.
As mentioned above, they've recently been re-issued in a four-pack (For the second time at least) and Baldur's Gate w/ Expansion is available on Gog.com, with Baldur's Gate 2 likely to follow in either the coming weeks or months.
