In the manual it says that all NPCs already have one specialization, but I just added Sten to my party and he doesn't have one, he's just a vanilla warrior. Is it a bug or is the manual wrong?

I was wondering the same thing. I have Sten in my party at about lvl 11 and he still hasnt gotten a specialization point.

He only gets one at level 14. I think this is because he's Qunari.

I also found myself wondering why the party characters had their first specialization already set as I probably would not have taken shapechanger for Morrigan as the shapechange you choose for her does not seem to move very fast when attacking.

I would of had Sten a warrior and I think a Beserker at level seven if I could have and use Berserk and Indomitable at the same time with Leliana's song buff.  Level 14 I qould have had him take Reaver and just grab the talent Devour to help heal him.

If you dont like the default specializations for your companions, there are two addons that allow you to manually level up your followers.

The first one simply allows you to spend all points from level 1 and removes the default specializations.

http://www.dragonage...s/file.php?id=4 ?

The second allows you to undo all the points youve spent on any character, so if you dont like how one spec plays, you can undo it.

I use the No Follower Autolevel Mod and it does not give Sten 2 specializations.

Has there been any official word on  why Sten is the only humanoid character with only  one spec point?

Because Morrigan learned from her mother, the legendary shapeshifting witch, how to use magic?
Because Alistair was sent to the Chantry at age ten to be trained as a templar?
Because Leliana was trained to be a minstrel since her early childhood?

It's called character background. Why should Sten be willing to learn anything new?

What is the point in this? You are what you are, I am Sten of the Beresaad. I live as a warrior and I will die as a warrior, nothing can change that.

IMO he shouldn't even get the point at 14, or at least only if you have very high influence.

I think they wanted every companion to have a unique specialization. Although, it seems to me that Berserker better fits Sten than Oghren.

Official word is that it's a bug. I don't know why they didn't fix this though, it seems so easy to fix and they have already released two patches.

I find Sten and Oghren the same. Both are two-handed sword wielders and they both just run out and hit stuff.
