Wow, this sounds really good. I for one am all for more of Fallout 3. *glances nervously at DA2 board* I also like reading "more friendly interaction." Beth games can feel pretty lonely.

Slap a Bethesda logo on a game box and the ratings inflate by at least 3 points.

I wouldn't trust these reviews after reading various forums. Stick to what players have to say.  Well the realistic posts that highlight postitive and negative aspects to include technical problems all 3 platforms are experiencing.

While DA2 may be shorter than DAO, its nice to hear that New Vegas actually seems to have more quests and more content than even Fallout 3.

I'm sort of half thankful I won't be playing it for a month or so. One of my big problems with FO3 was how it constantly crashed on me (It's sort of fixed, now), and I can see myself getting frustrated if NV does it as much as the reviews state (I doubt it, though) as it's boot the system back up and then load Steam etc.
Will be keeping my eyes on reviews, though, but I have a feeling that Obsidian have "done it" with NV.

I haven't had one crash or lockup yet if that makes you feel any better. Aside from some artifacting/flickering with AA turned on, not a single issue.

I have to say too, so far the writting is really good, voiced really well as well.

Shorter is not automatically worse. Less fetch quests, filler combat, repetitive dungeon crawling = good in my book.

FO3 didn't have many sidequests, but each one of them was unique and usually one had to do a lot of exploring in order to even get them.

Yeah, but given the fact that each companion has their on quest(s), their could be more variety in the missions themselves. And I've already seen some of the quests from live playthroughs of the game. Their mostly not repetive and don't drag on. Of course, I will admit that I did skip parts of the playthrough as to avoid spoilers so what I have to say in this matter may not be the most trust-worthy.

I have only run into one bug that I couldn't work around and it was extremely trivial.

At some point a particular NPC gives you access to a sort of player house. You can access a computer to upgrade it by buying things, except the GUI glitches out and in my case I was unable to "purchase" an upgrade. I had to exit the menu.

My most consistent problem now is that any suitably busy area - in terms of NPCs - slows to an absolute crawl. The Vegas strip is a slideshow.

Gameplay wise, I have no complaints.

None of the bug reports I've seen are horrific. Performance issues and maybe something with Nvidia cards. Sucks to be stuck at work. :(

I assure you it is not a hardware issue. Unless it's incompatibility/poor optimization. The horses are there, they just aren't being used properly.

As much as I'd love to pick this up, I get the feeling it won't be worth the hassle at the moment. Will wait for them to patch it. I could run Fallout 3 perfectly on my Pavilion DV5; the only difference between the two games is multicore support. Any hardware issues that have arisen may be Obsidian not knowing the limits of the Gamebryo engine... or the console they're developing for. Alpha Protocol also had issues, perhaps they just can't work with the Xbox?
To be honest, I don't really care what scores this gets. I've modded the hell out of Fallout 3, and clocked 300+ hours in the process; it's literally consumed my life. This will get interesting mods faster, as basic features which modders had to add (hunger/thirst, iron sights) are already there this time. I MUST have it.

Is anybody losing faith in Obsidian as a developer? Barring the stuff some of them did at Black Isle, it's only been sequels on someone else's engine. They get round to their first original IP (Alpha Protocol), and, after countless delays, it flops critically (despite being a well-written game that I enjoyed immensely). Now they do New Vegas, and the same damn bugs that were in FO3 are present? They've had two years to iron this stuff out; they've also had access to Bethesda's resources (that means FO3's patches). Starting to think they're no good for anything but sequels... hoping I'm proven wrong, and fast. Here's hoping they pull a Mercury Steam on us.

I'm in England so it's not released here until the 22nd. Apparently it's shipped, though, so it should be here this week.

And even then I'm not getting it until December. Oh, the joy of presents. Well, at least I'm getting an NCR t-shirt (Hopefully, anyway).

Fallout 3 was rather short though, so it's only fair to hope that Obsidian added more of, well, everything.

I was only able to make my character this morning, step into the Wastes, save/exit, and go to work. I can't wait to get off work today!

Well, I´ll try and get the CE the 22nd and wait for the GotY for DLCs.

Steam DRM? Can live with that, but I wished they would see how pointless DRM is. It´s just a matter of time. Funny that it seems X-Box was pirated first.

Steamworks has a few other uses, though. Streamlines PC content delivery, reduces the variables with troubleshooting, and so forth. They'll only have to make the one patch to be distributed across Steam, and they can use the store for DLC.

It's much easier to just pay £5 for DLC rather than get a number of points to redeem against DLC.

You misunderstand me. I was talking about a few of these

Everybody should have a couple of them around.

So far I'm enjoying the game. Feels a bit more polished than Fallout 3 so far with the expansion of weapon abilities and the NPC's have a better feel to them.

Still running into some bugs that I have encounter in Oblivion and Fallout 3 (Game can't exit without crashing first, though not that big of a deal) but that seems to be an engine bug.
