Are you still forced to use the stupid VATS in order to accurately fire?

I thought the sighting seemed better in FPS mode.  Could just be my imagination because I do often use VATS.

Most pleasant surprise?  The starter pistol actually does damage.   Rather than making a red pimple and not even slowing someone down like the 10mm, the 9mm can actually take someone's head off.  Whee!!!

It's sweet to be back in the (Mojave) Wasteland!

So are the bugs as bad as some reviews say?

I had a bit of hitching while running around, something I didn't get in FO3, otherwise no issues for me at all yet.  PC version

If I have one criticism about the game, it's the music that's on the radio. I thought the music in Fallout 3 was more engaging. Of course, I've only been seeing playthroughs were the player only tuned into the Mojave Radio so I might not have heard everything. It's nice, though, that they made the actual game music(as in the non-radio music) more varied as opposed to having 2-3 tunes play like they did in Fallout 3.

The creepy sounds in the background are fun.  Makes you look over your shoulder all the time.  Which is just how it should be in the Wasteland.

Anybody get any special pre-order packs? I got the caravan pack which is pretty good, I guess.

Nope. I was going to get it from GAME so I could get the classic pack (Which was the only one I wanted), but I saw HMV advertising a New California Republic t-shirt as a bonus, so I had to switch. I love gaming t-shirts (Currently got a HoMM V and Mirror's Edge t-shirt).

Indeed! I hate it :( And I'm still slightly embarassed over the fact I thought it was about a murderer, not a serial rapist.

The "happy in the jungle" song was way more annoying.

Oh, "Civilization (Bongo, Bongo, Bongo)" by The Andrews Sisters & Danny Kaye? It's alright, but in small doses.

I have the Caravan Pack. Coolness.

Anyway, I can't decide who is more hilarious: the Yes-Man or well... just listen to new radio stations if you run across 'em.

I came across one other radio station feed run by super mutants but have since turned the radio off completely, the licensed music in NV isn't half as good as it was in FO3 there actually seems to be less of it too, and if I hear that "Big Iron" song one more time, someone's gonna get hurt.

Incidentaly after playing quite a bit yesterday with no issues, the game now randomly CTD's, sometimes even just on startup. Brings new meaning to the phrase "Save early, save often" Guess it was too much to ask for an Obsidian game not to have technical issues.

*sheepish grin* I actually liked that song, it had a habit of getting stuck in my head. Yes I'm weird I know. :D

Agreed on all counts.  Super-mutant radio is indeed the funniest, but after a while the songs get real old.  But really unless you license as many tracks as say the GTA series that problem was gonna rear its head eventually.  I liked the "Big Iron" song at first but it plays constantly and now I want to shoot something when I hear it, which is thankfully quite possible!

My main playthrough contains so many decisions that I have decided are already screwups that I'm planning my next game, heh.  Going to enthusiastically support Caesar's Legion in my next game.  This playthrough I'm following the "Wild Card" route - which is not all that spoilery since its the name of a quest chain.

AngryPants, we're not supposed to agree on stuff ya know. Keep the balance and all that :P
I'm still not even to Vegas yet, oh some 9+ hours in, pretty much supporting the NCR I think this time through anyway or at least thats how this play thru is going so far.

Right now just doing as many side quests as I find and exploring. Just wish the client wasn't all of a sudden acting up.

I did that for a bit but then got impatient and just started following the main plot until it got to Vegas. Really feeling like that was one of my mistakes. Should have cleared every sidequest I came across during that path before moving on, but right around Novac I said "screw it, I'm heading towards that bright shiny thing in the distance... oooh colors."

Also, and here's a smart tip for everyone regardless of your character:

Get your Repair skill to 90.  Not because the repair mechanic works the same as FO3 - it doesn't, in fact the mechanic itself is less demanding.  But because it unlocks the Jury Rigging perk which allows you to repair items with anything vaguely similar.  It's a (censored) godsend, especially if like me you play low STR characters, but it is valuable for anyone.  In fact it is so great that if I were to sign up for some Fallout forum right now my username would be Jury Rigger.

Finally thanks to the introduction of iron sights I can play FNV close to a proper shooter and haven't had to waste a perk slot on a single VATS skill.

I'm right around Novac now doing side quests. I actually think thats part of why I'm liking it alot, the a good portion of the quests so far have that "FO1 FO2 quirkyness" to them. I dunno maybe it just me. I think the writting is much better.

I'd say another good suggestion would be bumping speech up as it seems to me that theres a TON more speech influenced dialog choices this time around. I've missed most of them so far due to my speech being low.

I think I figured out what my issue is too, when I launch the game through Steam, the NV Laucher stays running, then goes non responsive and just sits there even while the game is running. Kinda odd.

Do you still get speech options if your character has Intelligence lower than 5?

I haven't seen a Speech check higher than 65 though.  There may have been one 75.  I'm convinced if you're playing a character that relies on Speech getting it to a level around 75 will be more than enough for any situation, especially if you save up those magazines, Mentats, and Sexy Sleepwear, heh.

No idea as my characters almost always have high INT.  But I have gotten to use speech checks that required high INT (and didnt check Speech at all).  So it does come in to play in that sense.

I've heard that the tracks don't need to be licensed as they're in the public domain, but I could be wrong. Anyway, if it's like FO3, someone'll come up with a mod to put a lot more thematically similar songs in (Louis Armstrong, Ink Spots etc) which'll vastly increase the choices available.

Is it two stations or three this time?

I've already decided that one of my playthroughs will be based around supporting NCR. If I play an evil character, Caesar's Legion may get my support.

I don't really think the Legion is easily categorized as "evil."  Just... operating under the rules of a different time - and Caesar has a rather rational, if potentially flawed, explanation as to why they are appropriate given the situation.  The name and theme isn't lightly taken from Imperial Rome, and what they do isn't all that different from what the Romans themselves did.

That's as unspoilery as I can get while still providing some insight into the faction.

What I would suggest for a first playthrough is to keep an open mind.  You'll have so many opportunities to alter your path that picking one early isn't remotely necessary.

Two main ones, at least one other that is only available in certain areas (the super mutants).

I woke up this morning and my quick and auto save games from yesterday are all gone. The only saves I have are the first quick and auto saves made when I first stepped out of the doctor's office in Goodspring.

After looking around a bit, there are a lot of people having the same problem and offering a variety of solutions. If you have not had this problem yet, you might want to create a manual save just in case or read up on it on the official forum.

Well, what I've heard in stuff lists them as slavers, so I put 2 and 2 together :P

Yup, and the real Julius Caesar enslaved something like half a million Gauls over the course of his campaigns in what is now France.  And slavery itself was always a big part of Roman society.  I'd say they're still different than the slavers at say, Paradise Falls, who were misanthropes on a twisted, megalomaniacal ego trip.

Still, I'm not going to try to defend Caesar's Legion as being a bunch of liberal humanists who mean well, that's for sure.  There's at least more to them than the slavers of Fallout 3.

I can't wait for the game on Friday but I am already hearing it has problems with leveling for some people. I love the Harcore mode idea think it will really make the game a challenge.

The problem I have with Hardcore mode - I turned it off - right now is that it is poorly implemented in the GUI. In order to see how hungry/thirsty/tired I am I have to take something like three steps to find it in my PIP Boy. I want that info on my main window for easy reference. It was simply to annoying to even check if I needed to eat or something, so I think I'll just hope a mod does something interesting with that.

I mean, in real life I don't need to check some device to see if I need any of those things.  It should be immediately obvious to the player if they're tired or thirsty, that's why I'd prefer if it were shown in the main GUI.
