The quicker devs move on from Direct X9 the happier I'll be, then again I tried out the Metro 2033 demo just to see the graphical advantages of Direct X11 and it rebooted my machine twice. So more than likely one of those can't win situations.

You're going to have to work on getting Microsoft and Sony off their console design duffs.  Their consoles won't go beyond Dx9, and the craze for multi-platform releases effectively puts the same Dx9 cap on PC games for any but a very few, like Crytek.

Yeah I know, it was more so just me wishful thinking outloud. It would be awesome if DA2 at least took some advantage of latest PC hardware but much like Gamebryo that Bethesda seems to love despite being a pretty buggy engine, the core engine is already so dated considering how long Origins was in dev, its somewhat a moot point.

And this is a selling point for continuing the series as far as EA is considered--stable engine, no further development costs, minor additions or refinements only.  Yay!  Image IPB

Alright then, Bethsoft haven't managed to fix any of their long standing issues using said engine then.

Don't worry, it's a common enough statement ;) Always struck me as weird how people'll refer to Unreal Engine 3 no matter the game or the extent of modifications to it, but when you get to Oblivion/FO3/FONV it's always "Bethesda's engine".

I don't know how Bethesda managed to **** up their modifications to the Gamebryo engine so much, though, I really don't. It's at the point where it's getting ridiculous, although I'll admit I felt the FO3 incarnation was much more efficient and stable than Oblivion.

Well, Fernando Melo did say back at the Gamescom chat in August they were looking at supporting high end PC stuff like DX11, so there may be some glimmer of hope. Even Bad Company 2, an EA game did have DX11 support, so who knows?

I was more so venting due to NV CTD'ing again anyways. I would guess the reason people do that is its still techically Unreal or Gamebryo or whatever engine is in question at the core level, but you're right in that its more than likely the modifications made by whoever the licensee are that causes issues. Just a hunch anyway.

It will be. I've played a couple of Gamebryo games, and it's really only the ones with Bethesda involvement that have been really problematic.

I've had a lot of issues with nVidia and Bethesda, though. FO3 used to BSOD on me quite often until I rolled back drivers (Which caused problems with other games), but on the ones I'm on now it seems fine, at least for the time being. Sounds like if I get NV this week, I'll be having issues with that too.

PC version just got patched.

Patch notes were rather vague but it seemed to focus on fixing up some quest and NPC scripting issues.

Haven't played this game much. What's the primary way of getting caps? Be a mercenary and complete quests or a merchant who sells all of the useless junk he finds?

Both.

It's nice that in the new game you get 5 caps per gecko skin.  That's good money when you're starting out.

Man, I just picked up Boone and that dude is overpowered. He really needs a nerf. Man gets head shot crits on things I never knew where there. Also, that kill cut scene gets old fast enough when it's just you triggering it, why did they have make it trigger for you companions as well?

Picked it up after work yesterday so only got to play about 2 hours. Have to split the time playing the game with the guy :) I really love it, has the same feel as FO3 with some improvements. The graphics look stunning on the 360 with a big screen.

The only bugs I've had are just spiders or geckos getting stuck at the edge of cliffs or rocks, which makes them easy targets. Can I say I love the Geckos? They are super scary when they come running up to you at full speed. They also look super funny in VATS.

A strange sorta bug was going into a fight (no spoilers) and then a trader coming up to me to chat about some such thing I can't even remember now. Cards? Caps? In the middle of the fight, which still went on in the background. In the end he somehow got shot as he was running away, then came back shooting. It really messed that fight up and I wonder if I could have saved some of the people if he hadn't stopped by for a chat.

Don't think anyone can resist the 'Wild Wasteland' trait. The only problem is sometimes you might miss the weird stuff since you're not sure where to look. Encountered two so far.

Oh one thing that seriously bugged me was that their Asian character model presets looked awful. Some of them don't even look human. Took me forever to tweak to get a decent one out of it.

I'm also having an issue with the 'classic Pack' - it says that the code is invalid. Anyone have that problem.

Biggest issue I've hit is that my quicksave seemed to disappear. This happened twice. It's apparently a known bug now and a patch is coming out, but if anyone does encounter it, your save is still there. You have to go into the save file and find the quicksave that ends in .bak. Rename it and remove the .bak. The quicksave file will then appear in your in-game saves. This also happens with autosaves.

Runs like crap on my PC, while I ran F3 on high without any problems. The unoptimization is the only problem I've encountered (and a few crashes). Still, from what I've played for now, I preferred F3

Just keep trying, they're working to fix things. I think the official blog recommended trying again in 24hrs (So if you put it in at 11pm last night, do it at 11pm tonight) but it should be fixed within a few days at most.

Was to be expected that Obsidian would not be able to avoid the slings & arrows of the Gamebryo engine. After all, they couldn't even with the Aurora engine.

You can turn off the killshot animation in the options by turning the "kill cam" setting to "none."

Kinda silly that retail stores are selling the game today already (some even yesterday), while you won't be able to play it until tomorrow.

I can imagine that the average buyer, who most likely isn't very informed about the workings of steam, is going to think they bought a broken game, leading to a bunch of complaints being directed to the stores for having sold them this.

Hmmm....to go out this afternoon and buy it locally, or to order it cheap from Amazon UK, as I've done with 95% of all the games/books/dvds I've bought the last few years, and wait till next week for it to arrive?

I'm still waiting for mine sadly, the good news is I got my code yesterday for the caravan pack and release day is tomorrow, I should get it some time this morning, or tomorrow.

It's not uncommon for games to release early. Pre-orders (Such as my own) often ship and arrive the day before release, which I think isn't a bad idea. Steam does tell you if a game isn't unlocked yet or not, and a quick Google will often result in the answer the person needs.

I got Mirror's Edge on PC the day before it came out and finished it that same day. That was awesome <3

The idea of buying a game legally and then not being able to play it for a few days because of Steam just doesn't sit right with me. And what with steamworks most likely gonna be used more and more often in the future, and with basically no store still keeping to releasing games on the official release day (usually always Fridays for Europe), this is only going to happen more regularly.

Of course the fact that I'm already not the biggest fan of Steam isn't helping either (more because of its pricing strategy than anything else though, but still..)! >.<
