Does anyone know if you can change your appearance after leaving Goodsprings? Perhaps via a plastic surgeon of some sort?

Also, anyone gotten Arcade yet? If so, where is he and how can he be recruited? He looks interesting (better healing ftw), but more importantly he's got Zachary Levi's voice!

PC, silly question. You get the same game for cheaper, it's moddable and possibly more stable (Due to being able to use mods to fix issues).

Only get it for console if a) your PC isn't good enough to run it reasonably well, or B) if you are absolutely desperate to play it on your tv and don't fancy hooking it up to the computer. Plus if you really don't care about mods (but you should! There's some good stuff out there) x

Why are the first mods always furry ones?

No idea, virumor. I get fed up with modding because for every decent mod there's seventeen mods for nude bodies, furry mods, various body types, a bouncing boobs mod (Seriously) and loads of immersion breaking trash. The worst thing is it makes the decent stuff hard to find, and the decent stuff is less popular.

The only time I broke "immersion" with modding was a Faith costume for Fallout 3, which I quickly got rid of.

Only FO3 mods I ever used were the one that allowed playing after the ending (pre-Broken Steel) and Bittercup Companion (until I realized she had an uncanny likeness to Imoen and had to shoot her in the head repeatedly with a rocket launcher).

Hurghh, the Bethesda game mod community...  *shudders*

No I don't want one of 27 better bodies mods, each one with a choice between 12 different cup sizes. No I don't want a personal spaceship home in my medieval-style fantasy game. No again, I don't want a texture improvement mod where applying ridiculous amounts of the sharpen filter to make every texture look as gritty as possible is all that's been changed. And no, I also don't want a nekkid one-breasted amazon warrior companion mod.
Aha, FINALLY, a mod that fixes the scaled leveling...but wait, it just also happens to include 45 chainmail bikinis, a wide variety of tophats, new creatures including giant nekkid cyclopses and various dragons, and it turns every Dunmer into Drizzt clones. Just my luck.

So...much...hate.

Anyways, didn't manage to snag one of the preorder t-shirts yesterday. :(
Did get the game though and managed to play about an hour and a half earlier. Pleased to say that so far I've not noticed a single bug, and performance is perfectly smooth on 1920x1200, 4x AA and all other settings on max and without using the dll fix.

Truth be told, the BioWare one isn't much better.

To all the people who say "get the game on pc, it's the only good version", remember this: Some people just like playing on a console better. I am a terrible FPS gamer on a PC, but I'm really good (and oh so modest) on my Xbox. I just prefer a controller (gamepad, whatever you want to call it) over a KB/M setup. I played Fallout 1, 2, and Tactics on the PC, but FO3 and New Vegas are definite Xbox buys.

Also, as far as th mods go, I don't really care for them all that much. I've looked at the Nexus for Fallout before, and there are only a few that are really good. And even then, I don't want to risk breaking a game save for some pretty cool item that I could live without.

The Games for Windows standard requires the game to be able to work with the 360 controller on Windows. Fallout: New Vegas is subject to that standard, so it's playable in a higher resolution with a controller ;)

Oh, and modding only risks breaking the saves which are run with those mods active. I could have one save using "Mod A", and one using no mods. As long as I don't let the one with no mods save with the mods active (i.e. don't use it), it won't break.

One thing I have heard though for GFWL is that it is a pain in the butt. I have also heard the same for Steam. And then again, I am really bad at checking my comp specs to make sure mine would run some of these new games. I remember buying a game several years back for my old comp only to figure out that my graphics card (I think) was not the right kind because I had not known the minor differences between the two cards (the names were extremely similar, so I mixed the two up). That is essentially why the only games I play on my comp are RTS games, and old RPGs (and Lego Island 2 ).

Yey, I got the game and even a T-shirt (although not XXL-sized, but I appreciate the gesture nonetheless).

I've also heard both and had problems with neither.

You're also confusing GfWL and GfW. Games for Windows is an optional specification that games can go for, Games for Windows Live is more like Steam. Games for Windows doesn't actually affect the game itself.

I've actually found Steam Works to be quite useful for New Vegas. I don't have a duel monitor set up, so the built in browser means I don't have to alt tab (which often leads to crashes in most games) to look something up.

Weeeelll.  I can't really comment on the "mod community," but I do know that sometimes modders fix problems in games that the devs won't bother with.  And that if you do want to change something in the game, on PC at least you'll have the option.

Obviously if someone prefers a console, that's up to them.  I'm just cheap and won't buy a machine that only does one thing when I've got another machine in the house that will do the same thing better plus lots of other useful things besides.

Couple of thoughts about 5 hours in:

Starting out is a lot more fun. I hated the vault sequence in FO3. Aiming down the iron sights is a huge improvement on top of a better selection of weapons. I am finally able enjoy firefights. I like what I see with factions and quests so far. They give me a real desire to go exploring. FO3 failed to do that for me.

I'm getting a real "The Stand" kind of vibe from some bits of the game, which is cool, IMO. Anyone who's been to Nipton for the first time ought to know what I'm talking about here...

Otherwise, totally random question: anything special to do with all these crows? I'm wandering about randomly discovering things and always make a beeline for "friendly" yellow map markers. Half the time, those markers are actually crows out in the wasteland, which fly off when you approach them. I must have run across a good twenty so far. Other than also making me think of "The Stand", do these crows actually mean anything? Like, some hidden easter egg or trophy for finding them all and sending them flying? It just seems like too much of a pattern for it to mean absolutely nothing.

I did do a Google search, but all that comes up is info about Crow from Fallout 3. And I'm trying to avoid going to links that look spoilerific.

I hate how there aren't any new cool hairstyles for a female character. Wendy the Welder is the only decent one, if one is not roleplaying an insane raider/slaver girl.

Definitely one of my biggest complaints.  I can't stand the character models, which is why I don't bother switching to third person. (Unless I'm checking out an outfit or weapon.)

Bethesda needs to hurry up and show off their newest engine.  I really hope they have listened to the criticisms since Oblivion.

I thought the presets looked different, but yeah character creation is not up to snuff by any means.

They took out the only decent looking presets that allowed me to create a somewhat pretty looking character. Now I'm reduced to fiddling with Moira Brown clones.
