The NCR wasn't really very grey, either. Yes, the politicans and the bureaucracy were largely corrupt and not to be trusted, but the regular soldiers and rangers were all 'lawful good', basicallly on par with the East Coast Brotherhood of Steel.

On the other hand, the Pitt's slaver faction was a decent grey faction. I went in there initially with the thought of killing all slaver scum, but Ashur made me do a double-take. He was an example of a charismatic leader using machiavellian methods for the greater good.

I think the NCR were very well done. Like many governments, the core values are good but that's not always enough. What does it matter if a soldier or ranger is Lawful Good if the results are different? This is still a faction that is pushing rather aggressively forward, expanding territory, in order to take resources. They're conquering people who may not want anything to do with them, and those people who either can't pay the taxes or just don't want to be affiliated with the NCR are forced to leave. They have you do some rather nasty things as well and while some of it can be resolved peacefully, that is because of the player pushing for it, not the NCR itself.

Besides, I think it's just better to not bring alignment into it and just look at the results. I often find paladins in D&D absurd because in my mind, there is just not a believable world out there where you can solve everything in that mindset. There are people in the NCR that wants to do good, sure, but a lot of what drives it in New Vegas is desire for more power.

Ceasars legion is sorta dissapointing so far... NCR had a ton of quests and i dont see as many with them so far.

I think the Legion would've worked really well if they had just toned down parts of it. Like how most of their voiceactors are just dripping "evil" for example. I also don't think the women = slaves echoes the roman empire particularly well (women didn't have the same right as men but not to the point where CL takes it).

You have to keep in mind that the Legion is merely a bad/ignorant interpretation of the Romans. If it wasn't in a picture book I don't think they'd resemble them at all. This of course being the point the developer was trying to portray.

There aren't as many, but then again they're hardly in Nevada, kept at bay across the river, ya know? Not as many run-ins/locations equals less possibilities. I think they have three camps, but one is merely a safe house, versus to the twenty or so NCR camps.

I was sad to see the BoS so diminished. Weren't they suppose to have a larger territory in the West? I thought the East operation was the small castaway group from the West?

Or, you could look at it from the NCR's view, being they have a neighbor (state by state) that has the potential to take hold in the region, one in which has a well perserved power source. If a faction such a Caesar's Legion controled the area it would be easy for them to expand and grow, creating a very large threat to the entire NCR. I don't know bout you, but I'd rather the NCR have their hands in my pocket versus to the Legion.

Lost Hills bunker in California is huge. The ones in Mojave are just a small contingent sent East.

The BoS also had a very minor presence in the Fallout 2 areas. I don't think their very isolationist ways is a good path to success so I think it'd make sense for them to slowly diminish despite their technological know-how.

Sure, but the reason NCR marched towards the Mojave was (if I remember correctly) because of the Dam and New Vegas in the first place. It was only after they had mobilized that the Legion showed up from the East to cause trouble. And again, it's shown both in the NCR storyline and in some of the NCR endings that these guys are far from saints. It's not like it's only the Legion they're acting out against.
This isn't arguing against the NCR as a faction per say mind you, I love the way they were done.

As for the Legion, it may be a point of ignorance that the devs are trying to get across for them. But it doesn't change the fact that nearly everything about them screams "hey, we're the evil guys". Even their freaking dogs look evil. And when you head East into their territory, the lighting changes into more ominous reddish tones. It's too over-the-top, especially if they really wanted to have "grey factions".

spoilers!

Do i really have to kill House and the Brotherhood (which i do coz Mcnamara no longer has the power damnit)? Its a hard life in the wasteland

Spoilers

You have to kill House, but you can make a truce between NCR and the Brotherhood.

SPOILERS

He said Mcnamara no longer has the power so he is forced to wipe out BoS.
I made the same mistake and now I have to replay the entire game since I won't attack BoS....

Why not? The BoS are a bunch of inbred asses that kill anyone with anything more advanced than an energy cell. The only decent group is in DC. And they're still sort of pretentious.

Maybe becasue I just like them? Or maybe becasue I simply can do whatever I want in my game? Their mission is recovering technology, true BoS will only care about their objective. That's why I like them. I still like the D.C Chapter though since they were still BoS, even when they seemed good.

The Brotherhood are corrupt as are any organisation, but i do like their goals and unity, maybe i just have a soft spot for them after the third game.

I actually agree on the romance part. If the Elder scrolls and Fallout games had quests like that they might just verge on perfect. But this is a sad fan girl speaking.

I did.  Then mocked him, "Is that all you got?"  He then said he'd need an upgrade to do better.

I have to say, I felt like a real scumbag slaughtering them.  I thought my anger at having them put an explosive collar on me would carry over, but it didn't really.  What it reminded me of was Boone's experience at Bitter Springs.  Posted Image

*WARNING* Do not take Veronica to Hidden Valley before you start her personal quest. Visit all the other area where she comments on the other faction first!

Damn it! Now she won't comment on anything, and I was just missing one dialogue before triggering her mission... The wiki says that it may be resolved by using the service elevator in Vault 22, I did that and she disappeared... vanished completely. Had to load a save from a few hours earlier... Well, played it for almost 50 hours, so I was bound to meet a serious bug sooner or later...

*Potencial spoilers*

On the current topic, then I did not have the heart to destroy the Brotherhood, even though I am playing an NCR loyalist. The NCR were fine before "For the republic, part II" where you are given orders to kill anything with a gun that isn't NCR... Although you can defy them, since you are not officially a part of the NCR, it still shows how paranoid and ruthless the NCR is.

I still don't understand why are people so angry because they put a collar on your neck. See it from their point of view, everyone wants them dead, they know NCR is hunting on them and then some totally random guy shows up at their bunker. Did you people really expected them to say "Sure dude, come in!"? You should be thankful they didn't solved it how BoS usually handles this kind of situations....

@Steingrimur Steingrimsson Same here, if BoS was a major faction then I woud've sided with them though. The BoS questline felt kind of unfinished for me, I would've loved a quest that will make BoS take over the Mojave Wasteland, or atleast the Hoover Dam and HELLIOS One. The only reason why BoS was defeated at HELLIOS was because they were more NCR Troopers then they had ammo

Wow. I goddamn hate the Legion. At first I thought they were a bunch of neutral badasses who were good but did things drastically. That all changed after I saw what happened at Nipton, found out that they were planning to use Boone's PREGNANT wife and her future offspring for slavery, usual pillaging, lowering women's rights, and training young, innocent children to be just like them. If the Khans think the NCR are murderers, they should see the legion. It felt so fulfilling to see the Boomers bomb the legion and to kill the Legate.

Also to the guy who found FISTO: Numbness will subside in minutes :)

I liked the BoS chapter in NV. I have always hated the BoS, but in NV I felt sorry for them. I am a NCR supporter so I got the BoS and NCR to have a truce and work together.

Yeah, really. Why do people hate the Brotherhood of steel for taking precautions? They have all the right to be paranoid considering that the NCR could wipe them off the wasteland if they knew their exact location. Plus, the BoS and NCR should unite and they would be an unstoppable entity in the wasteland, since the enclave is dead.

That's what I did. I united them. The NCR didn't like it at first but after awhile it was the best choice. They are still hostile towards each other in Califoria, but in Nevada the BoS and NCR work with each other.
