Managed to find a way to climb up directly from the north-east face of the mountain - punched up a bunch of mutant masters then inadvertantly did some tinkering and got the peaceful end to the quest without knowing what was going on!
Probably bypassed a fair bit of combat and (after researching the wiki) Raul. Don't think I'll need him though - my Courier is a sneaky fisticuffs loner with the Jury Rigging peak - I just need to pick up discarded armour and shop for a couple of cheap brass knuckles to keep my equipment in top condition.
Oh, and some of the fully repaired mid-to-high tier gear can sell for a bundle of caps. I can get over a grand of caps just from selling a fully repaired .44 Magnum (using dirt cheap pistols to repair) even with rock bottom Barter - been getting all the body augs that I can use.
Much much better than FO3 - if only they patch it to stop crashing like crazy

Yeh, same here. After killing Benny (which was personal) I didn't see why my character should care about the stupid platinum chip, NCR or the Legion, let alone Mr House. Given this, I thought it would be most logical to take over Vegas, considering Yes Man was right there to talk to after I killed Benny.Addai67 wrote...
But, having to just kill all the BoS has kind of left the end game feeling flat for me. People always say they want morally grey choices but to me it ends up seeming like just arbitrary choices and that makes me disengage. I'm kind of disappointed in the main quest tbh. In FO3 I felt like I had a personal connection due to the relationship with James, here I'm just kind of bored.

I mean... Your dad casually scolding you, you naughty boy, on how wrong it was for you to blow up Megaton in a giant atomic explosion is just one of the most bizarre dialogues I've ever sat through I believe.

Considering Bethesda's history with its RPGs, where all characters are blank slates in the beginning, I thought it refreshing the way they went with FO3, giving the character some background identity. I thought it worked well overall, though obviously not as well executed as one of the origins in DA:O (which essentially did the same things).Leinadi wrote...
I'm pretty much the opposite there. I think the Fallouts are great in that they just present you with the world, no attachments, and you play the cards that you think your character would in regards to shaping that world. I thought F3 was horrible in how it forced relationships on you, and you couldn't do anything about them because they had to play out in a certain way because of teh drama!!11!

My opinion is FNV is significantly superior to FO3 in terms of freedom to explore and direct your charactor. The main thing (I have not played to the end - currently level 24 wandering around doing quests for Brotherhood of Steel) is that you are free to play and support any group of people you like. One wonders what if you had the option to join the Enclave in FO3 instead of being forced to side with the BOS.
I think casual players used to FO3's levelled enemies will complain bitterly of it, but I strongly approve of FNV's monsters distribution - the place is supposed to be dangerous and a low level charactor should get cut to pieces or at least be very lucky to survive if entering a dangerously hostile place like a deathclaw infested valley.
I remember venturing north of Goodsprings at level 6 - and came limping back to Doc on single digit HP! I eventually broke through that dangerous path to New Vegas and find myself stuck in Vault 22 at level 7 - cursing my curiosity (to quote Joker: "S***, s***, s***!) that landed me into the deathtrap of a place. Fortunately I had a huge stockpile of gecko steaks so managed to finished the whole thing in one go (i.e. never retreated to lick wounds) and limp out half crippled.

I really liked the way you have to pay attention to things like the deathclaw warning signs regardless of your level because the areas marked as such really are full of deathclaws.
The villains, Caesar's Legion, were also much more interesting than the rehash of the Enclave from FO3. I found myself actually getting angry with the Legion and wanting to go out of my way to thwart them due to what they were actively doing in the game world while my PC wandered around. Judging by other people's reaction to the Legion, some of whom even supported them, the faction and its motivation was both plausible and compelling rather than being some faceless borderline nonsensical evil version of the Brotherhood of Steel.
My gripes are mostly with the bugs, which can easily cost you hours of game-play through no fault of your own. But I do have some other nitpicky things that bothered me as well. While I think the songs on the radio stations were very fitting, I wish there were more of them. The playlist gets rather repetitive very quickly. I enjoyed Boone's development as a companion, but he was simply to powerful for how early he is available. Once I acquired him, it was a breeze even on hard/hardcore to advance through the teens and on towards level twenty without doing much myself. Having him fight my battles for me, whether I wanted him to or not, was pretty anticlimactic. Next time through I think I will either skip him entirely or wait until I am over level twenty to pick him up.
Having completed the game as an energy weapon toting NCR supporter, I plan to revisit the game in a few months once the bugs have been worked on and some mods are available to play a different character and support another faction to see how differently the whole thing plays out.

Also, I'm siding with Caesar's Legion on my current playthrough. While my previous complaints about how the faction is portrayed still stands, I must say that after chatting with Caesar, you get a much better sense from where it's coming from. Again, they really should've toned down the "evilness" because their methods, while brutal and harsh, could've felt fairly applicable if we discard the morals we have in today's world and look at how the post-apocalyptic world of Fallout might turn out. But obviously, what's great about the gameworld is that there is no ultimate answer.
Too bad it sorta gets buried in the villainous imagery.
And Sadinar, ironically enough, Boone being so overpowered compared to other companions is due to, yes, a bug. So it'll most likely be fixed in the upcoming update since it's known to the developers (in fact, it was a developer who pointed it out at another forum).

To me, toning down the Legion's violence would not only reduce their villain factor but also spoil their plausibility. The sort of strong arm rule embodied by the Legion only works if people are too afraid to make any move against them. Meeting with Caesar was one of the highlights of the game as his ability to rationalize his barbarism was downright mesmerizing.
Honestly, the Legion is the best video game villain I have seen in a long time and a bad karma PC has every reason to join them. Well, unless you are playing a female!

Also, I think they could've done a better job of getting across their point to the player. There could've been more mention on how life is in lands already controlled by the Legion. Even while Caesar does explain some of the logic in his speech, well... There could've been more of that, especially earlier in the game. Most of what gets across to the player is that they're just a bunch psychos who murder everything in their path.
The ideas are sound and intriguing, but I don't think they quite pulled off the execution.

Being a largely visual medium, the most concise way of conveying that a group is violent, scary, and dangerous is to do so using visual cues such as blood colors, creepy masks, feral looking dogs, and ominous clouds in the sky.
If you did not find the whole thing compelling, that's your call. To each his own.

The talky skills come in handy a lot more often as well and high speech and barter will allow a character to bypass combat completely or squeeze out more rewards should the player choose to.

Many of the new guns using .45-70 or 12.7mm have very little ammo dropped by enemies or available for purchase. One positive is customizing your weapon. I've got the sniper rifle from FO3 with a custom stock and silencer and using custom hand loads. I would like to try this on a SM Behemoth as it one hit kills just about anything in FNV.
The game is much longer than FO3 which is good and bad. In FO3 I built 3 unique characters and played through to the end in about the same time I've spent with one character for FNV. I'm not really happy with my toon in FNV but just lived with it since I don't want to build another character until the major bugs are fixed.

i have not run into a single thing you have just stated in game...The Harley Dude wrote...
I started a new FO3 game just before the release of FNV. The gameplay is worse in FNV due to the ridiculous number of bugs. This is a beta game. Most of the add-ons Obsidian provided are sloppily done or are not thought out. For example lever action rifles and shotguns will occasionaly not fire even though they may be in perfect condition and you have met the requirements to use it. The 'fix' is to either holster the weapon or use VATS. The game crashes or drops to very low framerates after an hour or two of play so I think there has to be a memory leak in the code somewhere.

Some are funny like the deputy in Primm having his head stuck in the ceiling which occured on both of my toons. I need to get an HDMI capture card.
Try this one. Go to Gun Runners and buy up all the ammo components with a cost then try to use them at the reload bench. Does not work on xbox. You have to drop all components on the ground or give to companion then put back into your inventory before the boxes and jars will broken down to components.

Heh, Yahtzee didn't so much review New Vegas as he's telling an anecdote.

But I felt the end-game (and how much combat there is) made much more sense with the Legion. It's easier to feel bloodthirsty with these guys!
The ending slides are very well made I think, both from the NCR and Legion perspectives. Interesting consequences which often make sense. There appears to be a great number of permutations depending on who you ally with, help or destroy and so forth.
Very pleased.

I do think they could have allowed continuation though IMO, no big changes would occur for years, and there'd still be stragglers from the Legion etc anyway. If they can have dialogue for things like 'Wish i could have been there when Caeser died. What an ****.' or 'Are you the one that saved the president?' They could have had dialogue for 'Your the one that put the NCR in charge. Now we're all gonna be suffering under their taxes' or 'Your that sick bastard that helped the Legion. Now we're all be slaves' Just to let us revel in our glory a bit...
Wonder what they have planned for the DLC... am already wondering what the future holds for Fallout too lol... will it always be in North America? Have we come across any mention of whats happened to other countries in the game? We know (well, when Raul was last there) that Mexico is still going. Content there would be pretty brutal.

I kinda hope we won't see too much Fallout stuff (obviously I'm hoping in vain) since I think the series is a bit watered down with all the releases. But I think the biggest thing I fear is going back to a Bethesda developed Fallout after playing New Vegas. NV inherited many of F3s problems I think but it was much more on the money when it came stuff like player freedom in how to solve things which is so integral to the series.

I love the world they've created, so i would like to know their theories/take on other countries, like Japan....
I do want more, so long as they stuck to 'canon' fiction, as in keeping their stories straight and not changing them each game.
Actually, i think i'd rather have another TES
