The DLC Dead Money is availible, but it won't let me download it!

I kind of want to start a new playthroughwhile I'm waiting for Xbox Live to get it's !@#$ right, but once you've used the YCS it's hard to think of any other build, and you can't select Wild Wasteland...

Nah, I am on the PC. So being a bad guy, I just let the XboX players betatest it for us before the "timed exclusive" baloney wears off. :P

It's a side quest to another, entirely closed off place. I had to fast travel a few times before I got the Sierra Nevada quest ping. I'm not sure how a completed game save would work, because you have travel within the world to start the DLC.

^ No one looks bad in Veteran Ranger armor.

A couple quick notes before anyone decides to play the DLC. For those who are Plasma Spazs, prepare yourself for a tough go in the beginning, as there won't be much in the way of any energy cells, including micros (anything energy weapon related).

Also, dump all non-essential items before you embark upon the quest. I mean all, which isn't to hard to do at the location just prior to starting the quest. Last bit I'll offer; prepare to turn up your brightness, whether with game settings or tv, because the DLC is painfully dark 99% of the time.

EDIT: My total play time was 8 hours. I am one who checks every box and so forth, plus I played blackjack for an hour.

I have the option of getting it for 30 bucks at Best Buy...the question is...do I buy it now, or wait and see if there's a "game of the year" edition later on with all the DLC and some of the bugs actually fixed?

I've already played it, but got so overwhelmed by every jerk giving me 20 quests and the unbearable amounts of bugs, that eventually I just said "f it" and rushed the ending.

Didn't you just answer your own question?

But no-one gives you "20 quests" or a similarly exaggerated number. 2-3 are the most you tend to get, and that's it.

I was so excited when I finally got hold of Veteran Ranger armour. Then my character put it on and a message popped up: "You are now disguised as NCR"... FFFFUUUUUUU-

It should've been a quest reward for any character with heroic reputation with the NCR.

Whilst you're wearing it (Or any other faction armour, I presume), it keeps popping up in the top left corner with "You're still disguised as a member of *faction*", and I'm like "Well, duh. I'm wearing NCR armour because I want to be in the NCR."

Admittedly I had to console spawn myself two sets for repairs because I'd only found one and it'd cost me ~13k caps (At the time; I gained more rep and it went down to 8.4k which is still a lot) to repair it at the NCR Outpost, and I just couldn't be bothered with that. I was also disappointed that the helmet has no bonuses at all, which is a real shame.

I'm not a fan of the reinforced armours, either. Leather looked alright, but Mk2 Combat Armour made me laugh.

My only gripe is the CTDs.  Never triggered any quest breaking bugs or other wacky stuff before most of the major patches were applied.

No, but there's a guy who gives you a quest that involves you convincing 4 of his subordinates...each of which, in turn, has their own quest chain involving 3 tasks.

The characters in NV spew quests out of every orifice. It's pretty distracting when you're exploring a post-apocalypic wasteland, and you're afraid to approach other humans...not because you think they may attack, but because you know they're going to send you on yet another fetch quest.

....................but as you know, that 'pop-up' was designed for people like myself. I get distracted then ramble into a Legion camp  bolstering my shinny Ranger Armor, then have to hit the restart button.

I used Chinese Stealth armor, before the DLC. Of course I like using light armors, so it works well.

The side quest are optional, and IMO add depth to the world. Also, unlike other RPG campaigns, you don't have an eminent threat, so going out of your way to help or harm someone is reasonable.

I just wish the main quest(s) of the game was better handled and not so dull. The last act was poorly phrased and uneventful.

I was enjoying the game a fair bit at the beginning but after getting stuck on a rock for about the 5th time last night I have to put it away for a while.  A few possible broken quest bugs which annoy me but are not the end of the world, getting stuck so often takes it a step further.

A lot of good things in the game that is for sure.  As I said in another thread though, the worst thing for me is still the map.  I'm sure others have no issues at all with it but to me they went form over function, wanting to give it that pip boy look over actually being very useful.

The "getting stuck on a rock for about the 5th time" probably won't get fixed, which sucks because when you get stuck you are 'floating', so you can't fast travel or jump. I usualy save prior to mountain climbing.

The world map is fine, but I agree that the 'local map' is terrible, and harldy offers a good perspective of the terrain. This leads to many hours tacked onto playthrough times. I guess I could look at it differently and say the mini map is fine, had they made a better way point system.

Uh, well... for Fallout 3 we tortured ourselves waiting for the GOTY to come out because we didn't want a GFWL account.  Turned out you had to have one to run disc 2 anyway and it was so bug-ridden that most of the DLC were unuseable.

So....  I would not bank on an ultimate edition fixing the bugs.  I guess most game developers consider bugs part of the experience.  Image IPB

Reminds me of hearing that the USDA has guidelines for how many bug parts can be included in peanut butter.  Image IPB

The world map is better than the detail one but still not great as it does a very poor job of showing actual terrain.  I've spent an hour or so just looking for some ranger station because it is surrounded on 3 sides by mountains.  Fun game but the maps suck.  Interior much worse than exterior.

GotY was a collected edition, it wasn't an enhanced edition or anything. I can't think of the last time a Game of the Year/Collected edition was any different to the original release with the DLC added onto it. They're put out to keep the product on the shelves, entice buyers (OMG FREE CONTENT?!?! ZOMGWTFBBQ MUST BUY!) and to save room on shelves. The Fallout 3 DLC packs went down in price, to the point of being marked as clearance, because the GotY edition was released and it's a better product for stores to sell.

Ultimate/GotY editions combine the game with patches and DLC, but they sure as hell don't come with any extra features like extra bug fixes or fix-all solutions.

And, FYI, I've had 0 problems with the FO3 GotY edition. The DLC installed fine, I had no problems getting it to run and I'm quite happy with my 1400(ish) gamerscore in FO3 :)

Well I know we weren't the only ones who had problems. The advice on the Bethsoft forums after GOTY's release was to "boot disc 2 from safe mode." WTH?! That's a defective product and if it were any other industry they would do a recall.

I didn't have any trouble with the Fallout 3 GotY edition either. Then again I was also on an Xbox360.

Maybe it's a PC issue?

I'm having a hard time believing that I get bad karma by stealing from the Legion. Oh well, the Karma system in Fallout3-NV was and always will be fail. I could go killing everybody in a town with Knock-Knock like a sadistic, psychotic slasher in a horror movie with an axe and I'd still have Very Good.

About the stealing, I find it funny. In Fallout 1 and 2, you could steal, steal and steal and not lose a single point of karma. That's how I got rich, too :)
