Fallout New Vegas

I think (Or, perhaps, hope) Bethesda are going to be quite clever and keep Obsidian close but not buy them out. New Vegas has already had a lot of success despite the issues it has, and I hope Bethesda will use Obsidian at least once more for another game.

Speaking as someone who does their share of over-analysing, I think staying well clear of that sort of thing is definitely the sensible option! Over-analysing is a great way of missing the point entirely.NamiraWilhelm wrote...

I tend not to really scrutinize games the way a lot of people do, so i agree. Maybe that makes me stupid to not overanalyze things like that lol. I just kind of see them as the art of others, and that i can enjoy...I can understand that: Morrowind has its very own "something-or-other" that makes it unique: it's oddly alien and compelling. But what always leaves me flummoxed is the people who have the attitude "I love Morrowind and hate Oblivion and everybody must agree with me lest they be condemned as a casual gamer". Erm, riiight.NamiraWilhelm wrote...
though i have to say i do love morrowind more than oblivion.... but they are both great loves of mine, as well as FO3 and FO:NV, and no doubt FO4 and Skyrim will be the same
As for Skyrim, I've little doubt that despite my misgivings I'll buy it anyway and will probably completely love it. Except for the bugs, which will doubtless drive me nuts, or at least cause an enormous torrent of moaning!
Think things like video games are about the only thing i dont over-analyse (just noticed my terrible spelling, or i must think im american)... same with bugs with these games. I honestly don't know many amazing games that don't have their fair share of bugs. i know bethesda games can be riddled with them but i cant help but feel its still worth it.... i am far less forgiving for dragon age DLC, however lol

@B3ta - i wont be on live tonight so i'll just post here.
Yep ive used the machines, but the two vendors apparently are usable. They have no caps because they use prewar money. But i dont understand how to transact with them. Now, i have looked at Dead money walkthroughs, and they claim it is possible. One of them even recommends visiting them before leaving the area, since 'they're the only merchants that can afford the gold bars'. Just wondering if you knew how to use them.
Also yeah it was hard. Managed to complete it though, definitely enjoyed it.
I don't know?
I'll be doing a second playthrough on the dlc tonight, so I'll check it out. I bartered with them, but only in trade.

This ****ing game is unbelivable. I can't do **** in the Thorn arena under the Strip...I just left one of the battles (rad scorpions I think) and the game CRASHES CONSTANTLY. Never had that before. I cant move anywhere. Previous saves are all the same. Whenever I load a save from the Thorn it crashes the milisecond I move. WTF I ask? I cant even make it to the door to leave the Thorn. Tried to save every step before the crash to make it somehow to the dor but the game0crash is quicker!
DAMN!

If your on the PC try hitting ` to get in to console & type 'player.moveto 00138143'. That should put you just outside of Thorn. If your on the consoles I guess your screwed, unless you don't mind losing hours of playthrough by going back to an uncorrupt save.
If this works, re-entering the Thron should fix whatever was causing the problem.

BTW how do you know this number is outside the Thorn? Where can I find that kind of useful commands? Any other tips if I get stuck in a rock or between walls and such?
Thanks again!

Found "The One" reason why Vegas is still intact. It was a case of a dodgy A Bomb.
A map screen would be nice. Can it be armed/disarmed?
EDIT: Sorry Namira, I got caught up side questing last night, I'll be doing the dlc tonight

Go to Bitter Springs, then past Station Bravo, you can't miss it. Big bugger in the middle of a large open area!B3taMaxxx wrote...

As for disarming and stuff, it's not like the "not quite dud" that dropped on Megaton: you get a whole heap of semi-useful scrap from it instead.

Ref Ids for Locations are not listed in NV Wikia because there are millions of them. The id I gave you is of the external sewer man hole grate to the Thron in Westside. Easiest way to find out is while in game get in to the console, type 'prid' & click on any object & it will show you the Ref id of the object.
Alternatively you can use the G.E.C.K to find out.
If you get stuck in rocks simply type 'tlc 0' in console to turn clipping off, move out of the rocks, then type 'tlc 1' in console to turn clipping back on.
The console commands for NV is the same as F3, except they added on a few more to deal with reputation & so forth.

I didn't get an ending choice I expected at all. I basically went along and supported the NCR through the whole game and had hoped to be able to have a nice happy happy joy joy ending after getting rid of the legion and being able to support the NCR. I ended up basically having to tell the NCR to ****** off at the end no matter what because I wanted to control everything which was not my intent.
I obvioulsy made a few choices earlier on that indicate to the game that I wanted to rid the whole area of the NCR and the legion.
Overall an enjoyable game but some really crappy glitches got in the way. Some broken quests and freeze ups which though a bit annoying were not the end of the world. The one thing that did bug me was having travelling companions suddenly not follow me, losing them and as a result not being able to travel with any other ones. That ticked me off.
I'll have to give the game another run through though I'm not sure how different I will approach things. I can't see me siding with some of the slimeball organizations I was happy to wipe out in my 1st run through.

First time I started it I was going on the route of "I don't care about you, I care only about me". I admit, I played this way and I liked. I did "bad" things to "good" people, stole a lot of stuff, lost a lot of karma.
During 90% of the game I played like, but when I met Mr. House and the Strip I just could not continue with this way. I guess I realized that the whole things is way bigger than just me. For some reason, I started to do things differently, I started to do things for the "good" of the community.
Mr House was an interesting character, I would dare to say the only one during the game. Even with all of his speech about saving mankind, I never, never truly trusted in anything he was saying. I could have killed him, but I didn't; I could not take the weight of a whole city on my shoulders. So, as I could not see a better future for New Vegas with the NCR or with the Legion, or even with the Brotherhood of Steel, I had to act like I believed in Mr House's words.
I think the saddest moment in the game was when I had to destroy the bunker of the Brotherhood. Maybe I felt that way because I worked with the Brotherhood in Fallout 3, but hell, I don't really know why that feeling came to me.
The boss battler against Lanius, I think this is his name, was really hard, because I could not figure out how to start the final mission in Mr House's behalf and have my companions with me. So, I really had to work to defeat him.
For the gameplay, I saw happy and sad at the same time. Good thing they kept most of basics of the combat, bad thing they didn't care improving o lot of stuff that should have been improved, also I had trouble with a lot of bugs during the game.
Overall, it was a better game than Fallout 3 IMHO.

Still something a little odd about going to a Mormon fort to find a ghoul to be a kinky cowgirl prostitute.

I must admit to being really ambivalent about the BoS: right from the time I first encountered them at Fairfax in FO3 and found them to be a bunch of obnoxious bell-ends, particularly at first. At least they weren't as bad as the Outcasts, but it didn't make them likeable. But in spite of their elitist "serfs and other lesser beings can't be trusted with anything more advanced with a club" attitude, I still found myself compelled to like them for some reason I can't quite figure out. At least Veronica was quite a laugh - and that rarest of things amongst Bethesda followers, actually useful.OnlyShallow89 wrote...
I'm torn over the Brotherhood in NV. On the one hand, I still half like them due to FO3, but we have the (In my opinion) much more preferable Followers of the Apocalypse. FO3 never really showed them being, well, who they are but in NV you realise just how secular and up themselves they are.

I think the thing that makes the western Brotherhood so interesting *is* that they were formed out of a good idea, but their isolation are slowly eating away at them from within. It's a potentially very powerful faction and it has access to extremely advanced tech, but they're losing the "race" in the wasteland.
Some of my favorite parts of the faction politicking is that the main 3 factions will demand you to destroy the Brotherhood, and only 1 path has a diplomatic option available (and even then, it's completely through the Courier's work and agenda and you have to make the right choice when working with the BoS as well). They're a dangerous, if small, faction gone fanatical, and I'm glad that Obsidian recognized that.
