Edit: would it be worth picking up FO1 + 2? heard many a great thing about them but for some reason never got round to playing them

They patched this game to fix most of the issues yet? Won't consider re-buying it until then.

I haven't played either but from what I've heard, they are worth buying and are very different than FO3 and FO:NVVoiceOfPudding wrote...

They put out a rather huge path last week I think it was. Three Patchs total I think, so most of the bugs should be knocked out.PlumPaul82393 wrote...

So what's the verdict on Old World Blues? (without spoilers, if possible)

Thanks!
I will definitely buy it, but I think I'll wait until it goes on sale, probably around the Xmas holiday.

I finished it yesterday after a free day of gaming.
Some quick thoughts:
-An open-world environment similar to Honest Hearts but with a more scientific and industrial world.
-Not item restrictions and you can return when you want to.
-Definitely the most funny of the DLCs as they promised. It's very well-written and some of the dialogues are absolutely hysterical. If you, like me, prefer Fallout being a bit more serious however, it doesn't really have the same impact as something like Dead Money. Still, very funny.
-Pretty crazy loot. Fun to play around, but again, found it a bit hard to take it seriously.
-A pretty awesome player-home which is upgradable in rather fun ways.
-Just like Honest Hearts, I felt it was a bit too combat-heavy for my tastes.
-Chris Avellone (lead designer on this DLC) is probably insane.
Thoroughly enjoyed it as a stand-alone thing but had hard time connecting it to the rest of the Fallout universe despite many references and a very strong Science! vibe.
I can one-shot all non-robotic enemies from stealth with a headshot using the Ratslayer. Otherwise I use the Brush gun.KenKenpachi wrote...
A final issue is be ready for most of the weapons you take in to be useless. Enemies in the Big Empty are very strong, even near the Max level and with 100 skill in guns my Assault Carbine takes a full clip to gun down some of the foes. Honestly the Melee axe you pick up with some sneaking works wonders here. However even this is not so, while I may have no trouble sneaking past the normal enemies, the Robo Scorpions can at times be difficult and the other two humaniod foes minus the the stealth boy or sniping are just impossible to sneak up on. And its not to do with skill I have 100 Stealth, all the perks with it. They just it seems have a high perception.

The dialogue is absolutely hilarious! The overdone '50s B-movie style is very authentic; wish I'd had a chance to show it to my late father-in-law who grew up with all that sort of stuff.scyphozoa wrote...
I finished OWB, it took me about 12 hours and I really enjoyed it. I see people say it was combat heavy, which is fair because there is a lot of combat. But there is also more dialog, cinematics and NPC interaction than the other two FONV DLCs. In general, I think OWB packs the most bang for buck into the FONV DLC.

I posted this in the DLC discussion thread but wanted to post here too to see if anybody else could help me with the last paragraph:
I currently have a level 30 (no DLC) Courier whos done a pretty heavy bit of exploring and has the endgame quests ready to go. I think I'm gonna go with NCR for this guy (he's done a pretty good bit of NCR work so far) since I cant side with the Legion and House/Independent don't quite fit (I've been a good guy for the most part making peace wherever I can. I killed that fink Benny though) with this Courier but I may do the end 3 times over just to see. Skill wise I've been primarily into Speech, INT/Luck/STR, Science, and Guns/EW's for the most part. Not much Melee or Unarmed combat skill to speak of.
Anyway, I'm reallly looking forward to starting up a new playthrough after this. I want to go through defending Goodsprings again and explore the Mojave once more. Will probably make the new character more Melee focused but there's so many great guns that it's hard to ignore.
I do have a random question though that I hope somebody else here experienced. I need to recruit Raul to get the all companions achievement. I did the Black Mountain quest months ago and freed Raul but didn't recruit him right there since I had Boone with me. Raul said he was going back to his shack near the Nellis Air Force base and I figured I could recruit him there at some point. However, I went there yesterday and couldn't find him. He wasn't at Black Mountain still either. Anybody know where he might have turned up?
