So i've gotten back into playing and after beating NWN2 I decided to give Mask of the Betrayer another playthrough. And I wanted to know everyones favorite party mix and if your have a favorite companion you like to have in the party at all times.
Right now i'm going with
Me(duh): Ranger/NWN9 btw, Okku, Gann, and Safiya.
Personally Okku is my favorite companion overall, I mean come on he's a giant f***ing rainbow bear/tank/killing machine. What ISN'T cool about that?
Your favorite companion?

Purely writing wise I think Kaelyn is my favorite companion, and one of my favs of all time actually. I think she works really well on many different levels.
Utility-wise, Okku is king. He is just a monster to have in the party and he's pretty cool overall.
One-of-Many deserves a mention for being so extremely creepy and... well, evil.

I haven't played MotB enough times to see what Kaelyn is like. Of the other characters my favorite is a toss up between Safiya and One of Many. The latter is, as noted, extremely weird and wicked but so well done it really surprised me. It's certainly of the better purely evil NPCs ever written. Safiya I like more as a person though so she wins out.
Last time I played my party consisted of a pure bard, Okku, Gannayev, and Safiya. My next game, whenever that is, will probably include OoM again and Kaelyn finally.

My favorites are Safiya and Okku. My most common party has been them and either Gann or Kaelyn. I... I still haven't experienced One of Many. Even when evil I tend not to do what you need to to get him.
Gloom, that should be interesting. I can imagine OoM and Kaelyn have quite a bit to say to each other...

From what I understand he has a few chuckles over your character's manipulation of her if you go evil. The character I have planned for that playthrough will be neutral though. I'll keep you posted.

I'm with Quixal. I could never bring myself to do what's necessary to recruit him.
I have to say that none of the MotB companions really caught my fancy though. They're all memorable and interesting in their own way, but I never grew attached to them the same way I did some of the companions from the OC.

It was 50/50 for me. I wasn't too keen with the idea of prolonging the agony of an amalgam of tortured spirits, but I didn't feel very bad about slaying Rainbow Bear. The honorable, wise warrior type is a trope I find very tired. Okku didn't appeal to me emotionally the way Safiya did either. I didn't take particular joy in sucking him up and desecrating his remains, but it didn't hurt compared to other cruel things one can do in MotB. Case in point: some of the choices One of Many tries to push you toward are far worse than the ritual to create it.

Of course, you can get your own back with OoM by consuming him at the end of the game.
In fact, I think there's actually a super-ultra powerful item that you can craft only if you betray all your companions and consume each of their souls.

It's been a while, but I liked Okku and Safiya.

I finished another playthrough of the OC and moved into MotB again, so the companions are fresh in my mind.
I brought Kaelyn along this time, and I actually found her to be quite enjoyable. Her voice is one of those things you either love or hate, and the first time I hated it. Now I'm oddly drawn to it. She's been bumped up my list to favorite MotB companion.

Congratulations on another successful completion of MotB.
I hear so many good things about Kaelyn. I need to get around to this game again once I finish DAO, JE, and ME2 to see what she is like once and for all. It has been ages since I last played the NWN2 campaigns. Kaelyn seems to be a character people either love or hate.

Kaelyn is a beautifully done character. I shied away from her being a companion my first playthrough, but I kept her around on my second playthrough and have kept her in my party in subsequent playthroughs as well.

Gann rates up there, for being one of the few characters who has a sense of humor about himself. My more flippant/playful character usually ends up ostracizing teammates to a degree because none of them can take a damn joke. He shot up the list right in the jail cell for approving of my toon's "Well it was done by an expert, I'm sure it couldn't have been you" ribbing.
I think Kaelyn has the potential to be interesting...but with only one playthrough, she remained steadfastly neutral to my character even though she was with me a ton. Didn't get a lot of "extra" content with her. Every time I'd make some headway I'd ****** her off again by insisting her siblings fight with me n such (I mean wtf, there were only 4 of us fighting a spirit army otherwise).
Safiya...meh. She was okay. Didn't hate her, didn't particularly connect to her either.
Okku I took largely for flavor as I ran a Spirit Shaman. It seemed appropriate. The "little one" stuff got on my nerves a tad. (I WAS disappointed when I realized Gann was a Spirit Shaman too, and he/the game treated me as if I had no idea about spirits. But that's a tangent.

Kaelyn has a lot of conversation options in the "right-click, talk to" menus. Including many chances to gain or lose influence.

I really liked Kaelyn and Gann, though I had no problems with Okku or Safiya, really. Probably my biggest regret is rushing through Mask of the Betrayer because the Spirit Eater thing made me panic. Granted, at least it got a sense of urgency across to the player.

I liked Okku and Safiya best. Never had the heart to recruit One of Many. I never found Kaelyn a solid enough character to relate to - I think she'd have been more enjoyable if my PCs were set on corrupting her. In the playthrough where my PC sided with Araman she was a little more interesting. Less aetherial, more vengeful.
Thought Gann was mostly about as interesting as watching paint dry.

i gotta say i found One of Many to be one of the best companions of all time, simply because im EVIL. The only reason I bought strom of zehir was because he was in it, i gave him all my strom of zehir companions so he could devourer them.

For me gotta be Kaelyn once you give her good arsenal of spells and items.
