Personally I don't care for the cover or the promotional art itself. This happened with Mass Effect too. What bothers me is that making male Hawke/Shepard the cover boy kind of gives the feeling that the female character is non canon. Like the male is the real choice, and the female is just an extra.
I really dislike that, specially on games that supposedly let you choose these things.
I don't think so at all. It's a marketing decision, and a solid one.
I have no concerns about the cover (although a reversable cover would be so amazing that I'd die of joy promptly after donating my entire net worth to BioWare). I think Lady Hawke has been fairly advertised thus far in the campaign. Mike Laidlaw even said he was hoping to let us hear her before February 11, which is fantastic. I've seen what she looks like, you were able to play her in the demo, John Epler tells us their splitting resources equally between Man Hawke and Fem Hawke.
With all of that, I think a trailer to entice female players would be perfect.
