I do agree with you on this, and it means that the women, like me, who do play but who prefer to play a women when possible, will pass up on a game like ME for one that does show a female, so while they aren't losing a lot of sales, the could add more sales by giving some indication that you can play as either. Of course I'm always on the boards so when Chris said we could play either I believed him.
Oh, I'm in this camp too, believe me--but that also means I don't pick up most of my games via casual browsing. Granted, I have gotten a few this way in the past. Some of them were really awesome, some of them were meh--and I always got them when they'd gone down substantially in price.
They might get more of this type of customer if they drop the price sooner after initial release instead of trying to have it be $60 for months and months. I'm paying extra for same-day shipping already, so i'm prepared to spend like $80 to have the signature edition of DA2 right when it comes out--but they might get more sales overall if they capitalize on the casual people (in their buying decisions, not necessarily meaning that they play "casual games") by having the game be $30 by May.
Who knows, this is Marketing's job.
