I played NWN2 when it first came out, but I didn't really know exactly what I was doing. Now that I've picked it up again, I'm trying to make the most of my experience, but I'm familiar with D&D as much as I would like to be. There are some real basics I'm not sure of, so I hope to use this thread as a bit of newbie thread.

There are two concepts I haven't found the definitions of, but sadly I can't remember one of them. Until I do, I figure I can at least get this one out of the way...

What exactly does it mean to be "unarmored"? I made a monk (half-orc Lawful Neutral, in case you're curious), and I want to build him so he's hard to hit and an offensive powerhouse. To maximize monk abilities, I see I have to be unarmored... but what does that mean? My monk starts off wearing "Monk Clothes" in his body slot; is that considered armored? Does it mean I need to wear nothing, or just things with 0 AC? How does it apply to other armor slots? Can I not wear helmets, amulets, rings, or anything else? Or can I wear anything as long as it's 0 AC?

Thanks for the help in advance, guys.

You can wear anything as long as it's cloth (which provides 0 base armor, correct). You can't wear padded armor, leather armor, chain, scale, plate, etc. and use those abilities.

You also can't wear a shield, but you can wear any manner of helmets, amulets, gloves, cloaks, or rings you like. So, in other words, you'll be able to wear gear with bonus armor (enchantment) but not base armor value.

Awesome description, thanks! You should put that verbatim in the NWN2 Wiki site! That's the kind of definition stuff I was looking for.

If I remember the other thing that's bugging me, I'll reply here again.

Yeah, monks lose out on the defensive bonuses of armour, but they get to add their Wisdom bonus to their Armour class (AC) as well as their Dexterity bonus, which partly makes up for it.

NWN2 Wiki is a good source of info but it could indeed use a bit of nurturing since there's still a lot that's not on it.

It's worth noting that if you have at least one Sacred Fist level (you need MotB for that), you'll be able to wear light armor and still keep your Monk abilities. IIRC, this isn't mentioned in the description, so it's maybe a bug.
