I've had about seven playthroughs of DAO and I've been a rogue for one, it's just something i can never bring myself to do. To me it just makes very little sense why the Prince of Orzammer or Teyrn of Highever would know how to picklock. It was only as a city elf that i managed to convince myself that it made sense.
I'm wondering if people will play as a rogue in DA2 on their first playthrough because for it's something that i just won't be able to do.
When i picture the Champion of Kirkwall i either think of a great warrior who can fight off any enemy or a mage whose spells can kill dozens not someone whose defining ability is that they can make it harder for people to spot them or they pick a lock.

I will play a rogue because, well, I always play a rogue. I can't seem to help myself. I like to stabbity. I play other classes as well but I've always been an assassin at heart.

I would say the rogue's defining ability is more like being a tactician and taking out key targets and positioning oneself effectively, which seems like a good fit for a champion, really.

I have to agree with the original poster. Its hard to choose being a rogue when the other two options look so good in comparison. I hate they make changes in this game to make playing as a rogue better.

When I make a rogue, I always make them into a duelist. They are master sword-fighters, just not trained in the use of armor. Like I imagine nobles training their child in sparring for example.

My Princess of Orzammar was a duelist rogue wearing Cailan's armor and looked very much like your Champion description. Though I am not one to talk. I cannot bring myself to use a sword and shield warrior. I liked the two handed weapons but shields...sucked.

i found it hard to use a sword and shield as my dwarf, it just looked so wrong but i was forced to because two handed sword moved so slow and Alistair stole all my kills.
Also are Axes more powerful in DA2, i always wanted to be a dwarf using a big war axe in DAO but swords were more powerful so i would just end up switching.

I'm strongly considering playing as a rogue first simply because they seem more versatile than warriors at this point. Especially since warriors lose their access to dual wield and ranged attacks. Not sure though, need more information.

I thought duel wielding was out all together?

I like playing a rogue, but I admit some of that is not wanting to take Leliana or Zevran along all the time.

You don't really need to use pickpocket, even if you're a Rogue. But rogues are so much fun. They're fast and elegant. I aways though that Rogues kill without making noise or mess, just a dagger cutting a throat and people dying before they know what happened.

I also kinda like Archery :^)

Given how literally cut-throat the politics of Orzammar tend to be, the lock-picking and familiarity with poisons is something you can probably expect from about any fairly succesful noble.

I'm definitely going for rogue hawke mainly cause I didn't in Origins. I always hated it when I couldn't open chests in areas where I didn't have companions with me. Rogues are also the best damage dealing class and have the exclusive archery skill, so you shouldn't think of them as only being stealthy lock pickers.

Rogues can dual wield or be archers, I think.

As for the OP, What's wrong with a Dalih rogue/archer or a Dwarf commoner rogue? both fit the background just fine.

Rogues.

All day, every day baby.

Backing stabbing and lockpicking make the Dr. a happy man.

I'll play all three classes at some point like i did with Origins. Mage is sounding fun from what little we know so I think i'll start with that one again. Rogue is a fun class though, and since i basically played my warrior as a rogue (DW), and since that is going to be eliminated or whatever rogue might be my class of choice.

I actually thought that DA2 sounded like a good background to play a rogue. Nobles seem to be trained to fight with a shield and sword. Hawke as a commoner in Lothering to me makes the most sense as a hunter with a bow or a mage because the family has magic running in it.

By the looks of it, Rogue in DA2 means Ranger more than thief so, no, I doubt anyone will have any problems. Anyway, even Nobility can be sneaky.

Arl Howe is the patron noble of rogue nobles.

Nine out of my ten playthroughs are always rogues. A rogue allows more freedom at forming the party since they can take care of themselves quite well to begin with. Mages are fun, too, but they're nothing out of the battle. Warriors are simply bland.

CUN was the most important attribute outside combat in Origins and only rogues were able to make decent use of it. Which somewhat forces me to think of rogues as clever, witty people and warriors as stupid oafs. Their respective fighting styles reflect that as well; rogues employ a fast, agile, out-of-harm's-way style whereas warriors just stand there like an idiot and soak up bullets while swinging their swords casually. A rogue among warriors is like a Tom Cruise among the barehanded boxers of Boston in Far and Away.

I nearly always play rogues and mages. It is just a different fighting style. As for why a noble character would know how to pick locks, you could simply be a mechanical sort and like that kind of thing. Given that warriors won't be able to use ranged weapons in DA2 and will be limited to S & S or 2H, I was wondering why anyone would play a warrior.
