I'll play a rogue. I have a pathological need to unlock everything in games.

This is it for me.  Even if I hate the look of leather armor again, I'll play a rogue because I must open everything.:bandit:

I really liked the new leather armor that Hawke uses in the demonstration. I hope we can see more armors like that and less like the ones in DA:O.

I wish the rogue job in DA2 can throw dagger if the enemy were faraway like in dungeon siege instead stabbing to death and the deathblow animation need to change i prefer if they use some of the animation like in assassin creed 2 and the arrow skill animation for DAO kinda boring no movement at all only point and shoot can they put a little bit of gymnastic like back flip. The trailer of sacred ashes is a good example. I am sorry for my bad typing little bit broken english haha...

Would say there's always mods to work around the armour appearance, but then if one is modding that then may just as well mod lock-picking for the other classes, instead. So... okay, don't have a point really Posted Image

A whole thread full of kleptomaniacs. Just what this forum needed.

One thing to keep in mind is that rogue does not always mean thief. It can mean smooth talker, quick fingers, and cheater when playing cards. In the case of DA rogues I was amused that a lot of their talents were about cunning, not dexterity. This makes them more of a thinking fighter, not a bull running in and pummeling the bejeebus out of a target. They think on their feet more. It's kinda like the difference between how a soldier handles a situation to how a swat team member handles a situation.

Either way, this makes rogues a mental deal and not just thieves. Sure they can pick locks. Personally I think that's an awesome ability for a noble to have. Oh look I got kidnapped and put in a cell...well I'll just pick this lock and escape instead of waiting about like some prissy queen in distress.

If you think that is the sole purpose of being a rogue then you do NOT get it at all. <_<

NONE of the rogues I played pickpocketed.

Stereotype much?:?

Not if they're spec'd for dexterity. A sword and shield warrior is a whole lot faster with high dexterity, too, although not duel-wield fast

Really? I wasn't aware dexterity gives any sort of bonus to animation/attack speed. The game certainly doesn't seem to make any mention of that Posted Image

I don't know the hows or whys, I just know that my S&S warriors  take more time between blows at the beginning of the game than when they're higher level.

Bored nobles will entertain themselves in any number of ways.

My first toon was a bored human noble who fancied himself a swashbuckling playboy, and didn't approve of being stuck in the stupid castle so he went around pickpocketing, breaking into places he wasnt meant to enter, and sleeping with everybody.

And I made him look like Errol Flynn.

Holy crap. That's the noble that I made, too. To the letter. ^_^

Except the Errol Flynn part.

Great minds, and all that.

...he has the same expression as Rayin (avatar).  I think all my characters settled on exactly the same level of smirk.

That shot of your character really reminds me of this http://media.photobu...nal-awesome.jpg.

Edited to say: Still not adept at making a word into a link, yet. Sigh.

Did you open a lot of locked chests and take whatever was inside? Loot a rotting corpse for its ring? Stick your hand in a big pile of dragon filth for an action figure? If so then your character has Kleptomania.

Especially if we're talking about dungeons and tombs as opposed to some noble's drawer.  Further, kleptomania implies compulsion.  The adventurers in RPGs typically have a good reason to need additional funds.

Granted, this is semantics.

Then the whole forum is full of kleptomaniacs, not only this thread.

EDIT: This gave me a awesome idea. I have a character that is good and happy and whatever, but I still didn't played as him. I'll try to make a gameplay without loot a corpse or open a chest, yay

I don't know about you but my Warden sure as hell didn't cut open a dragon in order to look for goodies because it was the "practical" thing to do.

And I love semantics. It gives people more to talk about.

My character has never ever done such a thing.

Leliana did.

Big difference between looting corpses and stealing from live people.

Sure my character looted corpses, but I NEVER stole from live people.

I admit I was obsessive and opened every lock and raided every pantry and cabinet. It was my duty, you never know if the fate of the world would come down to being 3 silvers shy of affording that overpriced dagger with which I plan to save the world.

If  I failed in saving the world due to lack of funds, no one would blame that overpriced greedy vendor, they'd blame that stupid rogue who didn't steal that rusty pair of chain boots in the locked guard house closet.

But for 3 more silver, I'd have saved the world. Every elf leaf, rusty dagger and stolen turnip could be the difference in victory. Why did I take the peasants wooden serving bowl, some old ancient god in a tomb somewhere, might want it for a quest! Who wouldn't trade their household junk to save the world, who is the bad guy here?

Seriously, rogues are fun. I like scouting ahead, removing traps, backstabbing and taking out small groups for a change of pace, not because it is efficient.

The ONLY time I have ever seen a difference in speed has been when switching from daggers to dual swords. Swords swing slower, daggers much faster.  Unless your mage is casting haste, nothing gets faster.

Nine out of my ten playthroughs are always rogues. A rogue allows more freedom at forming the party since they can take care of themselves quite well to begin with. Mages are fun, too, but they're nothing out of the battle. Warriors are simply bland.
CUN was the most important attribute outside combat in Origins and only rogues were able to make decent use of it. Which somewhat forces me to think of rogues as clever, witty people and warriors as stupid oafs. Their respective fighting styles reflect that as well; rogues employ a fast, agile, out-of-harm's-way style whereas warriors just stand there like an idiot and soak up bullets while swinging their swords casually. A rogue among warriors is like a Tom Cruise among the barehanded boxers of Boston in Far and Away.

Not TOOOO biased there, eh?

I nearly always play rogues and mages. It is just a different fighting style. As for why a noble character would know how to pick locks, you could simply be a mechanical sort and like that kind of thing. Given that warriors won't be able to use ranged weapons in DA2 and will be limited to S & S or 2H, I was wondering why anyone would play a warrior.

I just wonder why Bioware was so stupid as to nerf warrior like that. I was a DW warrior in DA:O so why not in DA2? Have the laws of physics changed?!?!?!!?

My first character was a human noble rogue, but she was an archer and ranger, not an assassin or a thief. Picking locks and stealth were things she picked up after she left home to become a Grey Warden. I think it's entirely possible that a human or dwarf noble would have picked up some of the many distinct skills available to the class.
