Bioware Agree
Retro I agree
haven't played anything from Mythic so no comment
same with Relic and Netdevil.
Microprose helped make The Worms series so their awesome in my book.
I think Blizzard is still good their just getting greedy thanks to Activasion
Id was great back in the day.
and Descent used to be my favorite game ever so yes on volition.
Adding to the best for me is
Rockstar (GTA DUH)
Bathesda (Elder Scrolls Series, Fallout 3.)
Obsidian (KOTOR 2, NWN 2, Planescape Torment, Fallout New Vegas)
Nintendo (obvious)
Sony (God of War, Ratchet and Clank.)
adding to Formely good
Ubisoft (Still make good games but their DRM makes me hate them completely)
EA (also involved in good games but they got so big that its all about the money and I fear their bringing companies like Bioware down in quality)
Activision (same thing with EA except with Blizzard)
thats all I can think of right now.

id Software is still good.
It's hard to say honestly, they haven't actually made a game since Doom 3(which imo is very good). They assisted with Quake 4 and Wolfenstein, but a lot of that was Raven's work. Quake Live is mostly Quake 3.(But it's still good, been playing it a lot lately.) I think I can make a definitive judgement with Rage, if that game ever comes out.

It makes me facepalm when I see someone accuse Blizz of being greedy yet be totally blind to the fact that Bioware has become so much worse in that regard. Ok maybe Blizz is a little greedy releasing SC2 in 3 installments (however you dont put a game through a 10 year development cycle if your sole goal is profits) however if you would actually take notice of what Bioware is like nowdays you would see that they are a whole lot greedier than Blizz by a mile.
Just look at their products, the cut corners, the mounds of sub par DLC and the content that should have been released with the game however were cut just so they could charge extra for it as DLC, hell they even shortened the dev cycle on DA2 because they know that even though it will probably be a poor, buggy mess the fans will eat it up like the **** it is.
As you can probably tell from my post I would take Bioware from the "good" pile and post it in the "formerly good" pile, Bioware is no longer a good games developer however unfortunately when it comes to RPG developers they are the best we have, it is unfortunate that RPGs have sunk so low, the closest competition Bioware currently has is Obsidian and while they have shown that they can write a better story than Bioware (at least better than Bioware's current games) it is the other aspects of their games that let them down.
But really I would like somebody to create a list of the good RPG developers still around today as from what I can see the list is very short.
Hmm it seems I have forgotten about CDprojekt, these guys did show us they mean buisness with the Witcher and could be a good contender to rise to the top of the RPG market.

If you want a good example Look at Rockstar and their GTA 4 DLC... Lost and The Damned + Ballad of Gay Tony are called DLC but their more like their own games. You can easily tell Rock* is not in it for the money.
Yeah I think Bioware are greedy too but I think thats EA mostly.
I don't buy DLC unless I'm REALLY sold on it and ME2's DLC sold me and I wasn't disappointed... Especially with Lair of the Shadow Broker. That is quality DLC and I felt like my money was worth it.
And while ME2 may lack in the story department it did get everything else right.

and EA employee saying why Warhammer online Failed and saying why Old Republic Online will too.... That doesn't give me very much faith in them.
It doesn't take a genius to see where the money grubbing is coming from because we all know that Bioware itself is passionate about good game design.

Cavia was all over the place, but as a defunct developer they deserve a mention, Iguana studios the same but more conservative so not really as memorable.
Game Arts has gone down in quality over their last few releases

Oh please I never said that Bioware was clean but to say their more greedy than Blizzard? Pah.... Blizzard already has a money printer with WoW and yet its still not enough. How much content and the development cycle for SC2 is irrelevant. No one who isn't in it for the money makes a game and then splits it into 4 parts asking you to pay full price for each part.
4 parts? I heard it was only 3, also where did you hear that each stand alone expansion would cost full price? I cant see any information on this (however I did see something where apparently Blizz said that Warcraft 4 will use the same model, Warcraft 4 confirmed?) however as far as I can see this is a mere assumption and not fact. Also lets take into account that SC2 took 10 years to make and each expansion will have at least a 2-3 year dev cycle where as we can see with DA2 Bioware are charging full price for something that will take them little over a year to create so yes all things considered Bioware are far greedier than Blizz.

Have a look at Mass Effect, I would hardly call that good game design and that was made before the EA takeover.
Do you call reusing the same 4 interiors for ever sidequest, dull featureless planets, shonky stat based 3rd person shooter mechanics and the horrible inventory and weapon upgrade system good game design?

Also can you really tell me that the weapon upgrade system in Mass Effect was good? Constantly having to find the same weapon but with higher stats and whatnot is fun? Upgrade from Banshee 1 to Banshee 2 to Banshee 3 gets really tedious and the only weapons that I actually found were exiting to get were the spectre weapons because I knew that I diddnt have to upgrade my weapons anymore and I could be done with that tedious ****ing weapon upgrade system.

BioWare and Valve are the only companies I really trust as far as "brand name" type thing. Beyond that, I don't have too many strong feelings for particular companies. (aside from hating Activision and resenting the unwarranted popularity of Bethesda)
