I think they consulted a real doctor during production who figured out a way that would make it actually possible.
I watched the movie. Mostly rubbish. It completely lives on the shock of the procedure. It's kinda tense before the operation actually happens in the film but once it does happen, the film just loses all direction and purpose. You can really tell that there was no real point to it other than showing off this horrifying procedure.
So yeah. I'd say you could watch the trailer and see most of what the film has to offer. I'd skip wasting your time on watching it.
