No, but a very small number of quests (I can think of one right now) requires a certain non-magical ring or necklace.

There are a couple of places where you are asked to find a regular gem/jewelry piece to satisfy some fetch quest. In BG1, hold onto 2 angel skin rings for when you get into Baldur's Gate, as there are a couple of NPCs who want one for their own reasons.
