So im thinking of making a 4 or 5 man party full of power house characters.

I was thinking...

Kensai -> Theif at lvl 11.
Monk
Ranger/Cleric
Fighter -> Mage
Sorc

But i could use a bunch of suggestions...

I'd ditch the Monk, personally. Although they become fairly decent at higher levels, I wouldn't exactly call them powerhouses. (And they're positively abysmal at lower levels.)

Inquisitors are nice. Not terribly versatile, but hey—who needs versatility when they're wielding a freakin' Holy Avenger?

Sorcerers are very nice, indeed. Hell, why not take two of 'em? Heh.

Got a Cleric/Ranger? Ah, but of course. :)

Beserker/Mage dual-classes are extremely powerful, too. Although, personally, I've always preferred Kensages for style points. Even if they have been done to death.

Blades are good, too. Good dispellers, at any rate. Plus, they're Bards, and Bards are suave.

You've got a lot of options. Go crazy. You might want to take into consideration that for a trilogy run, you'll probably want a reliable stock of thieving skills. A Kensai/Thief won't easily fill that void.

Forget about the monk. Really. Monks are great even at low levels in NWN (2), but in BG1 they're worse than useless. Even in BG2 they're mediocre at best till they get to level 15 or so.

Make the dualclass fighter/mage a berserker. Berserkers are immune to nearly every mind affecting spell in the book while raging. Plus in BG1 the bonus AC and THACO is nothing to scoff at.

Cleric/Rangers are great, no argument.

If you want a melee class to replace the monk (did i mention monks suck in BG1?), get either an inquisitor to make fighting mages trivial or get a cavalier. Immunity to fear and charm are priceless in BG1.

Drop the monk, take a berserker. When berserk they are pretty much immune to everything, including Imprisonment. Drives the Liches nuts.

In defence of the Monk, Sword & Fist did an overhaul of the Monk kit, click here. Looks quite interesting, so much so I may even try one out soon.

Two Sorcerers is overkill, once had Edwin and Nalia as Sorcerers and they dominated. Not so sure about the Kensai>Thief, I'd go for Fighter>Assassin, changing the Thief class via Shadow Keeper.
Potentially some sort of Bard too, Skald's are the best supporting Bard in my opinion.
As for the Fighter>Mage, I'd maybe change that to Thief>Mage so you have a Traps/Locks Thief, leaving you to pump all your points into Stealth, Traps and Illusions.

Edit: what Sparky said too, Berserkers are brilliant.

Everyone seems to be very down on those poor monks! I agree that they don't really have a role in a party melee because they're too fragile at low levels. However, their speed and ability to hide in shadows makes them useful as scouts or as solo characters (I've completed BG1 twice with no-reload solo monks).

You might also want to consider a druid. Totemic druid summoning gives your party a real head start at low levels.

I have no problem with Monks, but the title of the thread is "Power Party" and Monks don't become powerful until about level 14. (IMHO).

Having an inquisitor's instant (and numerous) true sights is a blessing, to be sure. As for Dispel Magic, their particular Dispel Magic is damn powerful and it will be useful as hell in beginning to mid saga. Of course, in beginning to mid saga it's used primarily to ditch all the game-ending negative effects on your characters, whereas you'll want to use remove magic or other spells later on in the game to prevent your protective buffs being dispelled.

Why exactly level 11?
Level 12 would give you +1 damage, level 13 would also give you another half attack. I preach it time and time again, kensai need levels to be useful.
Monk
Ranger/Cleric

Fighter -> Mage

Why no kit?

Berserker is the obvious one, but with all the new kits now available, it is a bit more tricky.
