All,

I have an extremely serious crash issue going on with my game, and I've spent the past 2 days trying to figure out what is causing it. Luckily, I have both a database backup and a B2B file from 9/10/2010.

At this point, I have no qualms with trying to rollback to that version I know works, then add things one by one (it was a pretty slow month in terms of new content, it wasn't mostly conversation related things). Now, I don't want to rollback the current module, I was thinking of creating a new module, and then importing the info from the 9/20/2010 backup files.

I've never had to do this in particular, so I just wanted to see from anyone in my position if there are any gotchas. I plan to:

1) Create a new test module
2) Do a B2B import of the 9/10/2010 file
3) Export everything, and hope like hell the crash doesn't happen.

Am I missing anything?

Thanks.

Actually, a follow up question. Will the fact that the test module by definition will have a different name than the one whose info I'm importing, will that create a conflict?

You can't have two resources of the same type with the same name in the database - even if they are in different modules. So, you won't be able to import them with the same names if the database has your old module.

The module can have a different name - it doesn't matter for B2B.

That said, the simplest option is to backup the database today and overwrite the database with the one from 09/11 with the REPLACE option. You could take a B2B export of what you have in the module today and use that B2B file to add one resource at a time once you've checked that the 09/11 one doesn't crash.

Thanks, Timelord. I guess that will be my path for the day. I'll do as you suggest, but keep my current art resources (i.e. level files), and see what happens. If it still crashes, I'll load up the art stuff from 9/10/2010, that I luckily saved as well.

Here's hoping Posted Image

Thanks for the help on this, Timelord. I rolled back both the art and designer resources to my 9/10/2010 build, and it didn't crash at the same place it had before. Assuming I don't get any more crashes tomorrow, the time consuming part of putting everything back together, piece by piece, to see what's wrong, will begin Posted Image

When I find the culprit, I'll be sure to report back.

Wish you luck, Challseus :)

I had a similar issue but that was immediately after my vacation and the newly developed stuff was on another machine so it was a little easier to debug for me. Let us know what the problem was if you find it.

Sigh... No luck...

I'm rolled back to when I know it worked, and I'm still getting consistent crashes in another place it never happened before. Maybe my DA install got corrupted? Maybe I should update to 1.04, even though I've heard people complaining it has made the stability worse? Maybe I need to reformat my HD? God, why now...

EDIT - Turning all the settings down stopped the crash. I still maintain, why could I play with all settings maxed before, and now, I can't. Btw, this game is REALLY ugly with the settings on low. Posted Image

You could try turning on all the logging parameters in ECLog.ini and check the log to see if you can pinpoint at which point the crash is happening.

Thanks, I'll try that. At the moment, I'm doing a full re-install of the game. I'm expecting to, but I hope I don't have to re-install the toolset...
