It was recently suggested that we relesae new Lithographs at two seperate times in order to give all of the community in the many different time zones the opportunity to purchase popular Lithographs. We expect that the three Characater Lithographs will likely sell-out the first day I wanted to get you feedback and suggestions on this topic. My guess is that we would release 1/2 at our normal time (around 11-12 MST) and the other 1/2 either later in the day or on a different day and a later or earlier time. What do you think?
  • Do you like the idea of splitting the release?
  • What time(s) would you suggest in order to be fair to everyone?
  • Would you do the two releases on the same day or different days?
  • Would you want to see the relese schedule in advance?
Thanks in advance for your thoughts and advice.

Yes

12 and 6 EST

Same day

Yeah, but not so far in advance that the entire internet has time to jump on them.

Do you like the item of splitting the release?

Yes, it is important to split the release for fairness of those who can't be available at one time. I have no problem being on the forums around the usual time but I know a lot of people have more trouble.

What time(s) would you suggest in order to be fair to everyone?

11-12 MST is a fine time for me, so I think that should be kept, I would say 7-8 P.M. MST for the second time since that lets everyone in Eastern to Pacific time be able to get the lithographs after work and not to late that the people should be asleep.

Would you do the two releases on the same day or different days?

Same day.

Would you want to see the release schedule in advance?

I think the general time is fine with people having to check the boards because of what happened with the normandy.

~ Yes. I haven't missed a release in a while, but when working it can be quite hard to make. Also, the fact that some people miss even the announcement of the release on release day since they're sleeping is really sad for them. I know if that were me, I'd be a little upset about it.

What time(s) would you suggest in order to be fair to everyone?

~ I'd say keep the original time and then add 12 hrs to it for the second release. That way, if you were working, you can stay up/get up early for the next release and also, that gives a nice round window for the overseas customers too and for people who just have other important things to do (picking up someone from the airport, exams, concerts/shows they already paid to see that day, etc). Chances are, being 12 hours apart, the worst that could happen is you could have planned to be asleep at that time, and missing a little sleep is a small price to pay compared to buying it later on ebay.

Would you do the two releases on the same day or different days?

~ Same day. Different days may work or it could just lead to more confusion.

Would you want to see the release schedule in advance?

~ As long as we know in general what time it should be up, then only knowing "this Friday" should be good enough. Maybe adding a sticky to the top of the board might cover any newcomers not knowing that part about the standard times they are up. However, if you made it "every 3rd Friday of the month", I could live with that too, as it is easy to plan for.

Do you like the item of splitting the release?
- Yes, especially if it is likely to sell out quickly.

What time(s) would you suggest in order to be fair to everyone?
- I agree with Beocat's idea of doing them 12 hours apart. This would solve the problem of releases being in the middle of the night for many international fans. Also, the larger time difference (12 hours versus 5 or 6) would probably ensure that people who were at work during one release would be free for the second one.

Would you do the two releases on the same day or different days?
- On the same day would be simplest, I think. I guess a few people might be busy for an entire day and want them on different days, though. I would imagine if given enough notice, most people could make it to a computer at one of the two release times on a certain day, though.

Would you want to see the release schedule in advance?
- Yes, I think this is fair. It helps people schedule one of the release times into their day.

12 isn't ideal because it pretty much guarantees one of the two releases will be at an ungodly hour. And that leaves everyone in pretty much the same position as before, with one release date that they can try and get to. If you go with 6 or 8, while it sucks for a couple time zones, it gives a very good chance that one of the two releases will catch you at a good time.

Really, regardless, of anything else, they should design a schedule that gives the best time slots to the time zones with the most buyers (I would guess continental US and western Europe are the big ones for sales).

I think that splitting the release may be a good idea, but it should be analyzed after the first release using this method.

For times, I agree with the previously mentioned 10-12 hour separation to compensate for work/school.

I support the same day approach. While being gone or busy that entire day would suck, you wouldn't have a chance with one release time.

I think the day of release should only be revealed the week it is released, and the first time should be revealed the day of release. This will still require some effort to follow, instead of everyone just sitting down 5 minutes before the lithos go live.

# Do you like the idea of splitting the release?
yes! i can't stay up that long, especially with work...

# What time(s) would you suggest in order to be fair to everyone?
-sometime @ night for the US (8pm?) & a time where biowarestore HQ are able to assist incase...
-AU(SYD) GMT+10 8pm. (I'm being biased!!!... but definitely a time other than EST, for international buyers... which is the whole problem ...)

# Would you do the two releases on the same day or different days?
same day, no confusion. Separating the days gives the 1st release guys a '2nd chance' compared to those already waiting on the 2nd release a chance- so to speak.

# Would you want to see the release schedule in advance?

yes, but only if your absolutely sure that you'll hit those dates. no point if there are hickups along the road-especially those that don't visit the forums often for any changes in time/day.

Personal view:
Splitting the available quantity is a nice idea. But reasonable quantities... are hard to find. The stock available to the initial group would be even more limited. And the second group would have to face the then-crazy leftovers from the first stock (the people who wanted and were able to buy when the first stock was available, but couldn't snatch a copy for whatever reasons). Imho, there simply is no satisfying method when it comes to fast-selling products.

Different days MAY allow people to calm down a bit - may as well increase the tension - and also may provide access to people who were on a trip earlier.

MST and CEST only are 8 hours apart, so 12 MST still is okay for me.

It's another 9 hours or so to Sydney, so...
12 MST - 20 CEST - 5 Sydney
now let's move forward:
16 MST - 24 CEST - 9 Sydney

So... maybe 17 MST is nice for the second half.

I liked the idea of splitting the release.

As to what times, I'd say the first one can be what is is now, and the second to something more suitable for the most of Europe and hopefully Asia. I'll be more bias since I'm in Australia. so a AEST time works for me :P

I'd think the same day would be best as it would be less confusion and easier to track. Any scheduled releases would be less prone to be messy then so you can easily maintain a release schedule for buyers.

On a side note, I would think the first release should get like 2/3 of the lithographs and the second would get 1/3. I think resellers are gonna grab em if they see they are selling like hot cakes.

Interesting points!

1) Yes, I think that is a good idea- it gives a fair chance to people in different time zones.

2) I would say one in the morning and one in the evening (Bioware Store time) would be good.

3) Same day seems reasonable, and would help to avoid confusion.

4) Yes, I think it's a good idea to give the release schedule ahead of time. That way, people can plan to be online at the time of release for the Lithos that they would like.

On a side note, do you know when it will be revealed who the character Lithographs will be of? :)

Thanks again for asking for our feedback, Jedi.

The largest problem I see (especially since the purpose is to give more people a chance with the hyper popular lithos) is that, with a predetermined time and date, the whole stock will be gone since everyone will just come when the time is announced. Personally, I like the vague nature of the past announcements, like the "I'll be up in around 11:30" for the last batch.

Do you like the idea of splitting the release?

- Yes. It would hopefully give people a better chance at getting a really popular litho.

What time(s) would you suggest in order to be fair to everyone?

- I'd like the first timeslot be the original 11-12 MST. I live in the UK and this is pretty much the perfect timeslot (and I assume it's quite good for the rest of Western Europe too). It's early-mid evening. Everyone is home from school/work. It's a good time.

- Second timeslot. I'd assume that 9-12 hours later would be the best way to cover the other time zones, but you'd probably be better off listening to other posters who do have difficulty with the current schedule due to work/school/sleeping.

Would you do the two releases on the same day or different days?

- Same day I think. There'd be less confusion that way. Though you might want to change the release day to a Saturday or Sunday. Work/School would be less of a problem.

Would you want to see the relese schedule in advance?

- The schedule information you've been giving us so far is fine in my opinion.

I wouldn't mind splitting the release and giving an advanced schedule would be better. That way I wouldn't need to keep checking the thread every few minutes. Split release would also help other people across the pond get their lithos without having to stay up till 3am

Great feedback everyone. I'll work on the calendar for ME2 and DA Lithographs release dates and timing and likely post them late next week.

Thanks.

So what happens when the over 500 fans of some character who want a litho all know the exact time of release, and it just becomes a huge f5 race, with the entire stock gone within minutes? I just see it trading an inconvenient time for a larger chance of getting nothing due to it selling out more quickly.

'Ungodly hour' for Jedi, right?  You're definitely not being selfish and thinking about how terrible one of the releases could be for you, right?  Seriously not tryin to start anything, but I'd like to point out that Jedi does indeed have a life - thus, for his own personal reasoning, i doubt there would be a release at an 'ungoldy hour', at least from his perspective (GMT -7), and thus, most likely yours SC.  Besides, if you are studying medicine, its likely your gonna have some fun hours spent 'on-call'...thus, these Litho releases could just be some good practice for you!

But, so that everyone across the world has at least one decent release time to plan for, it should likely be seperated by about 8-12 hours, on the same day...assuming Friday, one release slated for right when Jedi gets into work (9am Western US, 5pm western Europe) and one right when he leaves (5pm Western US, 9am(Sat.) East Asia/Aus.).  Some people may prefer it if Jedi and a few techs can come in a bit early or stay a little late on these particular days, and it would certainly be wonderful for many, but should we expect it? No.  But something to think about - if the time split between the releases is less than 8 hours, someone in Asia could easily sleep through both...

And despite what some other more-greedy users may think *cough*, I think the Litho Schedule should be released as far in advance as Jedi feels comfortable releasing such, despite the fear of the internet masses.  For example, an approximate month schedule (since it seems to change so much) could help the less financially secure plan in advance, a 'for-sure' announcement a week in advance could put us on alert, and (to nod towards those few panic-types that shown themselves before this past release) a reminder the day before release was always nice in the past.

WOW and people wonder why I get irritated. I was speaking for the people in 12-14 time zones that would get one of the releases in the dead of night and the other in the middle of the work day, if they were to be released in 12 hour intervals. I am assuming that Jedi doesn't actually have to be at work when each of the sets goes live. I am in the Eastern time zone, as are probably the majority of litho buyers, so I am not worried at all that we will not get a fair time and there are very few times throughout the day that I would be unable to get online for a couple minutes to buy mine. Keep your assumptions about me to yourself next time.

I don't see how wanting a litho makes me greedy. Didn't we already have the discussion about how the more dedicated fan (like the people here) should have a better chance to get a litho than the less dedicated? I don't consider myself very selfish, but when it comes to a collector's item being fought over against random people online, how can you honestly expect me to sacrifice my chance to get a litho so some complete stranger does? I don't think that checking here every few days for an announcement of the approximate release date is asking too much.

Also, that was pretty much a complete misinterpretation of Slim Charles's post. Is Jed's post in the other thread asking this to stop not enough?

Shipping to Europe is already very expensive, and splitting release does not help the cause. I would much rather buy all lithos together, at once.

^i thought Jedi was referring to releasing the litho/litho-lot(1 or 3) at the same time, just in different quantities for the various timezones....

never will there be a release of ALL the lithos jedi has outlined (in another thread) at the same time. there just not all ready(concept art and production wise)

Well, it seems like everyone likes the idea of a split release, and that it's going to be implemented, but I fear a lot of us are going to regret this move. I love the suggestion of a more fair way for everyone to get a shot at these lithos, but I do not like this split release idea with an open book schedule of when they are coming well in advance.

The concept will work well and good for say a less popular lithograph like Korlus or Pragia, but who cares, you can pick them up a week after release, split release is obviously not needed in that case. It's intended to give a more equal chance for the most popular lithographs, but that's where I think it's potentially going to fail.

Take Normandy. That lithograph sold out all 500 copies in just about 90 minutes. However, nearly half were gone in the first 5 or 10 mins. If you essentially cut the run of each litho in half for a split release, meaning 250 in release window 1, then the other 250 for release window 2, give 8 hours or 2 days or whatever it ends up being in between for buzz to spread and the internet folks to regroup for a second assault. I think your going to end up with 2 mad dashes of 10 - 15 mins of frenzied and frantic buying. In effect taking a 90 minute window to buy, and slashing it down to maybe 20 to 30 minutes total time. I don't see that as a better solution than what is out there now.

Most of us have been down the mad refresh button slamming sessions waiting for release, and it seems like everytime a popular litho comes up, there are people that get on the short end of massive technical problems with the site crashing or some other situation that pops up that delays the release. If you only have a 10 or 15 minute window, it's pretty easy to miss out on a litho.

I know this is worse case scenario, but I just am hoping you all think about this a little more before you run and jump on the bandwagon of a split release, because it may not bring about the results that we all hope it would. It could make things worse.

If there are going to be multiple lithographs, I prefer to have them available all at once. It makes it easier to order as I don't have to monitor over multiple days when a litho is out. My work schedule is guaranteed 8am-5pm EST, lately even later, I'm stuck in meetings where going to the Bioware Store would probably not be acceptable and then I've got a 30 minute commute home.

Thank god I was on vacation the day the Normandy was released otherwise I surely would have missed it!

I'm not sure if you get it. They will be all available but he's just planning on splitting the quantity. Eg. 3 character lithos will be released at 9am. Only 250 of each available. 10 hours later, the 250 of the rest of the 3 lithos will be made available. He's not splitting the litho release but the quantity released...
