@ShepardOsiris

you do bring up a good point but my concern also is with people not being able to get to their computers to make an order/attempt too at all- at said time if it we're a 1 time/date release. i was lucky for the Normandy, but i was also up from around 3-4am- where i know some others missed out.

from the situation you mentioned, the way i see it- it also gives the people a chance to get there hands on them- but also decreased the chance since there will be greater people 'in the draw'

sooo saying that i'm not sure what a solution would be.... Lotto numbers anybody?

no problems there for me. ^.^ but then it has to be strictly limited to one litho per order/household.

^my memory's hazy but i believe, for the Normandy it was limited to 4 or 5 per household?

(jedi saying there we're a few people ordering 2, 3-4 people that order 3 and so forth. although not many 'suspicious' orders)

correct me if im wrong.

is there still a litho-cap?

Fairly sure he said that it was limited to 5 for Normandys, and 'going forward' (as he likes to say) the limit will be either 2 or 3 per household (don't feel like going back and sifting through all the posts to find where Jed said this...)

I don't think that there is a cap for every litho. But if we do splitting (IF!), especially for popular images, maybe it'd be more correct to go all the way and have a cap of 1 on pre-orders. and no cap once the pre-orders are done. *sigh*

This is something I feel might help make the distribution of these lithos more fair.  I thought about mentioning it earlier, but I know it is not the most popular view.  Personally, I don't see how a rule of 1 of each litho per address per 24 hour period is so bad?  If there are extras after 24 hours, then people can order a second one, for whatever reason (stockpiling, giving to freinds, etc...) and since they wouldn't have shipped, the shipping would be combined for the two.

At least that gives more fans a chance to own ONE.  I do understand that there are some people who order in groups to share shipping cost.  But... well, there just isn't any way to make the litho sales perfect, and this might help get it a little closer to "fair."  Just a thought.  Don't kill me if you disagree.  :?  Maybe I've missed an important argument to support purchasing multiple copies.

Their are ways around the 1 litho per household, you could have separate credit cards, user accounts, or send the litho to a neighbor whose willing.  I think it would be more of an inconvenience to resellers rather than stopping them.  To someone like me who likes multiple copies (I sometimes get 2 if I like the artwork) it'd just be annoying and people would find a way to get 2 anyways.

I don't know how willing the store would be to do the following suggestion or if the effort involved to do it is reasonable, but there is a solution that pretty much would solve most of the problems, while only creating a minimum of new ones. It would only need to be done on the rapid sellout suspected lithographs.  A while back the store did a giveaway of some Omega and Illusive Man lithos, where you had to have bought a Normandy to be eligable to get one. Why not put that concept to work?.

Have a split release, have it say 2 or 3 days apart, or a week if needed. Release 1 is 300 of the 500 print run. However, you have to have purchased atleast one other lithograph on your account before. This is, in effect giving all regular litho fans first crack, I know some may not like that idea. But it gives the fans and forum members who have been around supporting the lithos for a while best chance to get one. It also prevents people from creating new alternate accounts just to scam the cap. Unless of course people have already been using alternate accounts, but since most lithos have not had a cap, I doubt many are doing that.

Put a 1-2 litho cap on each order. If these things are done, I don't think your going to have a rapid sell out. This should provide the regulars no matter where they live, enough time to get online work out any technical problems, and get in an order for a litho.

If the 300 batch sells out, so be it, but if not, you dump the extras into the other 200 left, and have a second release, publicly announced release date and let everyone else have at it. It still allows people who want multiple copies to have a shot at getting them, and it doesn't cut off potential new customers from having the same shot they have now.  The numbers people get always seem to be random anyway, meaning if your order is the first in, you may get #75 instead of litho #1. So I don't see this staggered release being unfair in that sense either.

I know it's not perfect, I'm sure someone will find something they think is horrible about it, but if it's doable by the store, it's a whole lot better than what we have been doing.

Take Normandy. That lithograph sold out all 500 copies in just about 90 minutes. However, nearly half were gone in the first 5 or 10 mins. If you essentially cut the run of each litho in half for a split release, meaning 250 in release window 1, then the other 250 for release window 2, give 8 hours or 2 days or whatever it ends up being in between for buzz to spread and the internet folks to regroup for a second assault. I think your going to end up with 2 mad dashes of 10 - 15 mins of frenzied and frantic buying. In effect taking a 90 minute window to buy, and slashing it down to maybe 20 to 30 minutes total time. I don't see that as a better solution than what is out there now.

Why us nobody discussing this? Am I just overestimating how severe the effect will be?

Well the only other litho I think would sell like Normandy would be a Tali, or a Shepard one. I would think the rest would be the usual and stay up a few days at least. I have to say I like the idea of having to had bought at least a litho in the past, but it's unfair to new customers, so doubt it's a good thing to do. The only thing I'm hoping for is that I don't have to be awake from 3am to like 10am mashing my refresh button hoping to not miss a litho.

I think that giving advance notice would be a really nice touch, and great fanservice to the community. Split it up to make it fair, if you must, but a heads up would be great.

lolfanservice

I must be rather weird, but I liked staying up into the wee hours of the morning and spamming refresh.

    * Do you like the idea of splitting the release?

    - Yes

    * What time(s) would you suggest in order to be fair to everyone?

    - 11-12am seems ok since thats 5-6pm here for me, but 4pm MST is midnight for me, so the later release time that would  fit me would be 5-6pm MST tops.

    * Would you do the two releases on the same day or different days?

    - I would like it the same day.

    * Would you want to see the relese schedule in advance?

    - Yes, but only 24 to 48 hours in advance.

No conflicts here, but I'm curious to know how many people buy 4 or more lithos. Is there any sort of anonymous statistic we could get?

To make it (edit: evening or late afternoon) PM in Australia, they'd have to release it midnight or very (absolutely) early - like before sunrise. ^.^
