That was Sten's finest moment. The fact that he approves that you put him back in line is equally his finest moment.
I agree. The beating I gave him was by far the most fun part of having him the party.

I must also say that I had a far greater problem with his cultural narrow-mindedness than with his wanting to take over my leadership (that being for very valid reasons, too; if it hadn't been for RPG sakes I would've considered the whole of the Redcliffe party bonkers aswell for sending me on a wild goose chase somewhere into the remotest mountains in search of a myth. Hello, we have more pressing matters to attend to? And pray, why the bloody hell can't Teagan take over?! But I digress....)
How would your character have acted if you were in a completely alien culture, like lets say the Qunari one.
He is brought up to believe that his way of life is superior, you can't blame him for picking it up.

He'd be to busy fleeing to really think about it.

Being sympathetic doesn't mean forgiving someone's faults. It just means understanding why they're the way they are.

Who says I blame him? I don't. It doesn't have anything to do with my appreciation of the character or with lack of understanding or respect. But pardon my mage if she doesn't nod appreciatively when Sten is telling her that she'd probably be better off with her tongue cut out^^

Give Sten a break, even as a
female, he ends up calling you Kadan and goes back home to say you're
the only one who earned his respect. Sten does manage to change a bit,
which is a lot to ask from him.
Just so.

This.
I LOVE that moment. I wish there were more moments like this from all the companions. Sten earns big points from me not only for seeing how silly the search for the urn is, but for getting back in line (with a nice approval boost) the minute he's defeated.

Also this.
I only play female characters and Sten has always ended up calling them Kadan and expressing his deepest respect for them. Even my mage liked him, who admittedly wasn't too happy with his comments about mages, but she understood that this was part of his upbringing, it wasn't just him being a jerk.

He's an enemy who just happens to be on your side for the time being. He never abandons his upbringing or his views on the world, magic, women or anything else for that matter. He just happens to accept you because you're strong, he (sorta) needs you and he's in a far off land where his views are in the minority. Give him a summer back home around the Qunari and what little impact you've had on him will slowly fade away.

He has views on men being farmer too I think. It isn't all against women, even though that is the popular opinion.
Well, that is unless you see being a warrior as the prime state of existence.

He is sexist to everyone. The popular opinion seems to be that he dislikes women for some reason.
I wasn't really referring to his sexism. Just his views in general. You don't change the Sten. You just earn a small place in his heart. One I don't think is permanent.

I did like that moment since I was so annoyed and I wanted to agree with him about it.
Honestly though I liked it, once you prove that you are capable Sten will follow you no matter what.
Really though I think that Sten almost tests the warden with his questions and actions which makes him way more awesome.
