Importing the save

I have a couple of questions regarding my old save games.
From what I understand, if someone has imported a character into awakening, than the awakening save has both vanilla and expansion choices saved. Correct?
##Following this logic, if I have kept importing my character to all the addons in a linear fashion than ALL my choices should have been preserved? Correct?
Of course, I haven't done that, because firstly, I am dumb as **** and haven't considered DA2 when I have been playing, and secondly, I don't want to keep playing the same build all the time.
So now, I have many different characters, for many different storylines. Which ones will DA2 accept?
##Do the DLC choices even matter for DA2?
Will the choices have such a great impact, that I should consider replaying the DLC's with my main character (main storyline one)
## !IMPORTANT! Will DA2 be able to use your DLC save game, with all the choices, from all previous storylines? (According to my first question?)
Cheers

From importing your saves from DAO
through the DLC's (with Witch Hunt being last), you should have a
number of save folders of your character. For example I'll call this
character Arthur. The folders then would build this way: DAO - Arthur;
Leliana - Arthur1; Awakening - Arthur2; Amgarrak - Arthur3; Witch Hunt
- Arthur4. Arthur4 would be the one you would import into DA2.xiZverx wrote...
^ That's exactly what I have said. But that does not help me.
Does
"arthur4" have all my decisions from all the previous content? Suppose
you have imported a character from DAO-Arthur, instead of Leliana.
Are you catching my drift? Because all of these variable I believe only decisions from DAO will be imported into DA2.
Yes. Keep in mind we're still in development so this may change, but the intent would be to allow you import from completing any Warden-story based content, during or after Origins. In other words Origins itself (incl Stone Prisoner, Warden's Keep, Return to Ostagar), or Awakening, Golems of Amgarrak, Witch Hunt.
Of course, as we've already discussed, you won't play the warden in DA2 but your choices (the impact on the world through playing the warden) will continue into DA2.

Sweet, thanks. Will there be any kind of summary screen? "The Warden chose to destroy the Anvil and elected Harrowmont" or "The Warden romanced Leliana, but spurned her for Morrigan before performing the DA" sort of thing? I get paranoid my choices will get muddled in the conversion process, because I worry about things for no reason sometimes.
Part of what we're looking at.

Fernando, do you know what the status is on cross-platform importing? Someone (maybe Priestly) said it would be possible, shortly after the announcement, but some sort of confirmation would be nice before I pre-order (I plan to change platform, if possible).
This is not possible due to console restrictions. I would have to look again, but I'm guessing the "possibility" was maybe coming from misinterpreting something we said (like the fact that an import feature would exist on each platform, and maybe that was read as you could import from any platform to any platform - which is not the case)?

and what about the orlesian warden's playthroughs? will those also be up for importing?
Should be - the intent would be that basically any 'blanks' would be filled in with a default we provide. In the case of you importing choices made by a new warden created in awakening, for example - the choices in origins were made by a different warden during that timeframe. In theory, I suppose history could actually reflect that there were 4 different wardens that shaped Ferelden with their choices.
Again, theory/intent at this point - once we lock this down we'll know where it actually stands.

Will the US ending import, without retconning the Warden alive?
Also looking at this. I believe the idea here depends on whether you
import a save after US, but having not imported into future products.
In that case the origins choices should be what your US warden did, and
the rest would be an orlesian warden we fill in the gaps for.

Will we be able to import one save from Origins and other from Awakening?
No - the way the import would need to work for DA2 is importing from 1 DAO save. It would be incredibly hard (and error prone) for us to try to interpret which things you wanted from one save but not from the second, and so on. Sorry.

I remember the post mentioned, and I think I interpreted it so that in addition to/as an alternative to savegame importing, people could 'import' characters through the Bioware Social profile. Which would have been cool, as I have several playthroughs on both PS3 and PC, and wouldn't be averse to continuing the PS3 ones as well. Can see how the console manufacturers might balk at it, but wouldn't really be anything too far from the PS3/Steamworks integration, would it? {smilie}

I believe this was initially reported in that first GameInformer print article that came out.
"'We're not getting into specific details, but the goal will be to make
it so that even if you played the first game on the PC and the second
game on console, we'd be able to react to your choices,' reveals
executive director Mark Darrah. 'Now, we'll see what Microsoft and Sony
have to say about that.'"
It always sounded like a bit of a pipe dream, so I never got my hopes
up too high, but still kind of a bummer to hear that this is
(apparently) a no-go. I was hoping I could convince my friend to switch
from console to PC (but he's an achievement/gamerscore addict, alas).
Ah - wow, that must have been early on. Yes, that was definitely not something we could do with the current console restrictions.
Also re: the profile - currently the profile doesn't store this kind of data. It has enough information to tell you about your characters (level, stats, etc), but not the plot info to create some kind of import from.

On that line of thought too, would we be able to change anything from any such summary screen? It would hopefully avoid situations like playing through all of Witch Hunt only to get to the end and have schizophrenic Morrigan not recognizing the Dark Ritual and that sort of thing. Cause I'd hate to have some summary screen and see that a choice from Origins or Awakening was in there as incorrect and not be able to do anything about it.
The summary is something we are still very much working on. And we'll still have to see whether it can be done at all - but the current idea is to keep it fairly simple and create an abstract reflection of some of the key game choices you made (think of it like a top 10 list of things) - more to help you confirm this is indeed the character/save you want to import. Also, it's not going to be a lot of help for players to have a list of the thousand or whatever things are contained in a save game - most of which isn't particularly useful on its own.
We have a few other things up our sleeve, but I'll wait to see if these make it in before talking more about it - in any case, I'm sure closer to launch we'll cover the import system in more detail as we know this is something folks here will be interested in.

Better not be any bugs when I import. I wouldn't want to wait 2two weeks for patches like.......*cough* Witch Hunt.
Neither would we

So to summarize and make sure I'm following correctly.. the Import system so far works that if you used the same Warden in Origins, Awakening, and the subsequent DLC, it imports all of the decisions you've made in those. If your Warden performed the US themselves in Origins, Awakening onwards is a default state.
Likewise, if you played the Orlesian Warden in Awakening and used them in the DLC, or as Fernado said a new Warden each time, it would use a default in the previous or games/dlc. Howevever, if you perform the US at the end of Origins, import that Warden into Awakening and continue as if it didn't happen, that's still kind of sketchy and not totally worked out for the import into DA2?
Do I have the jist of it so far?
That... and the fact it changes weekly as we're still working on it
