Dear David, although I know you're not a tech guy and responsible about it, I think that the main reason is because you (in Bioware) find this feature unimportant.

That's because it is unimportant, in the larger scheme of things. That doesn't mean we won't do something about it if we can, simply that we have far bigger fish to fry. Like I said earlier, if we can get the headgear to look better that's half the battle won.

I can understand this but I can't believe it caused techinal issues because there is a popular fan-made mod for it (which I personally use without facing a simple bug / glitch). The version 1.6 alone has around 30.000 downloads which proves that it was welcomed by many PC fans of the game. Link:  http://www.dragonage...file.php?id=202

You can believe what you like. I've often said that every time a forumite says something should be simple, some poor kitten gets punted through a plate glass window-- and it's true.

Please think of the kittens.

Mods don't have to receive official support, they don't need to be tested and people are often willing to overlook glitches with how they work simply because it was their choice to download them. In other words they're held to a different standard.

Which is fine. That's mods. We can't rely on mods to do our work-- not to mention they'll only ever apply to the PC.

I already said we're aware of the desire-- but we're not making any promises at this point.

I would like to see some screens of these much better helmets.  Are we talking circlets for mages and leather headbands for rogues here or something equally good that can look cool and still show off the face and hair to some extent?  If not, its not a huge deal, I will turn the game difficulty down a level from where I normally play and just not wear helmets, but seriously, mages got to choose from complete head covering condom to complete head covering condom with feathers,  rogues got to wear a bowl on their head with the napkin still dangling on its edge.

If you don't want the awesome stats a dead peacock gives you, then breaking immersion and making your dead peacock be invisible but getting the stats still is a better option? Huh?

This is where everyone argues about what is a rp game and what breaks immersion.

These arguments in DAO boiled down to people complaining that players wanted something for nothing. That isn't the case. They don't want free helms with awesome stats handed out for doing nothing to earn them. What they want is the option to see their characters faces, and yes, sometimes the options to hide very fugly hats. Were the itemization power of hats really based upon ugly being part of the trade off?

I can't see Bioware thinking to themselves, this hat is really powerful, I think to balance it out, it should be ugly so that a)people won't use it or B) those that do use it will have to pay for its power by looking at a bird on their head for 30 hours.

I'd rather be able to hide helms, but the lack of the option won't affect my like of the game at all. Gaider gets in a tizzy anytime a toggle is mentioned. I don't blame him, we'd have a toggle list so long, they'd have to have a full time team just designing toggled versions of every part of the game.

Personally i do not give a ****e. I am the customer and if enough of us agree on a toggle they will give us one. How do i know this? It is because of the overwhelming desire for a certain Quarian or Turian to be cast as a love interest was expressed by enough people that regardless of artistic intent it was made so. So a toggle for a hat that looks like monkey butt is not an unreasonable, OR make hats that look less like ass, the choice is your Bioware. Decide which will be easier for you to do then do that.

Wow.

If you were casting around for a way to make us uninterested in going out of our way to provide such an option, that would certainly be an excellent candidate. Gotta say.

Not adding something to spite someone who made you angry would be an even bigger jerk move.  Though for the record I believe you are not being serious and made the statement in such a way as to emphasize your dislike for the post.

Meh, as long as it doesn have characters:

Drinking or eating while wearing a full helm

Kissing while wearing a full helm(s)

Be instantly recognized by someone while wearing an all-concealing helm which said person would have no reason to recognize.

I see little reason to be concerned about helm toggles. Sure it would be nice if we could get them.but I was content with the DAO system.

Oh, I know. I doubt we would do that of course-- but that kind of entitlement certainly makes it tempting.

Especially since, if we did implement the dreaded toggle, it would be because we thought it was worthwhile and an effort the players might appreciate, and not because someone (or many someones) decided that throwing a tantrum on the forums is what got results.

But to each their own, I guess. :)

I never said adding a toggle is a must though it would be a very nice feature for a lot of people, myself included, and I think you may be underrating how much people like this feature as well.  As a former MMO player I can say that over 90% of the players do not show helms.

I was sincere when I said I would like to see screens of the helms soon though, they where so awful in origins and you stated they are much better now in a previous post, thats a good way to arouse curiosity as to what they look like.

Nonsense. It would take giant baby slaying to a whole new level.

But really, any kind of vague confirmation that the armor in DA2 looks less skirt-like would make me a happy panda. And you should always want a happy panda, since we're going extinct.

Stop your moaning...

If we get nice headgear this time around, that looks really interesting from the artistic/conceptual standpoint, and a "toggle" when said headgear is taken off in convos all should be happy.

But I swear, if BW pulls that bananna hats looking like haystack, or some other gear taken out straight from sims, I'm going to murder someone, preferably the designer. :)

THere was a thread awhile ago where they nicknamed the termi-reaper pants. They figured it'd be a funny nickname because he didn't have legs. I swear, this forum has more inside jokes than the entire rest of the internet.

The precident was set by you folks at Bioware, i just provided a relevant example. I was just pointing out that as a consumer with an option as to where i spend my money along with everybody here on these boards who are also consumers we have a certain POWER should we choose to excercise it.

I am the super hero "Consumer Man" and my super power is cash which as EVERYBODY has a price, cash stacked high enough will get me anything i want. Posted Image

In this case since the precident was set with the Tali/Garrius romance options made possible in ME2 it would not be a stretch to assume that if enough folks expressed interest in seeing Shepard or the Warden parade around in a pink tutu that one would be provided.

That is all i was saying, now i do realize i did come on a bit strong, not like that has never happened before lolz. No hostility or offense meant, it just seems sometimes that due to the indoctrination of consumerism people on both the supply and demand sides need a reality check.

I'd honestly rather pay 500bw points for a helm toggle than alternate skins or weapons for the squad!

No.

Because I prefer permanent helmets/masks/etc. I loathe the fact,, helmets disappear during conversations in DA and love the fact they stay on during ME2 conversations.

So naturally I disagree with options 2 &4. Which is why I'm in favor of a toggle, you get your wish, I get mine and all it takes is a few devs going gray.

I think the whole Tali/Garrus romance was put into ME2 more because the developers got into the idea because of the threads and the discussions involved. Not simply because it was demanded. It was talked about, great interest was involved, and the discussions more or less convinced developers that it was an idea worth considering and doing.

Another example is Blasto and zombie kittens. Popular BioWare forum talk with great encouragement from the fanbase influences developers, not demands or petitions. Another being the NG+ for ME2 that was originally not in the game, and with great debate and discussion (not demands) it convinced the developers to include a NG+ option (a port ME2 character to ME2, instead of only importing ME1).

I could be wrong on some or all points.

Edit: However, not all popular forum things get included. These are just some of the many popular things that have come and gone on the forums. An example being: There is still a lacking of female models for aliens in Mass Effect.

Now that you mention it I would love to see helmets disapear in ME2 whenever Shepard engages in a conversation, especially if Shepard is in a hazardous environment like a planet with toxic air or the cold vaccum of space.

Shepard: "Gasp".

Make it so Bioware.

This is a good point but opaque helmets detract from the voiced protagonist. Also, some of the 'helmets' are just visors so immersion has already been broken there.

I love arcane warrior specialization because I get a wider variety of headwear to choose from. I always end up with the helm of honnleath because I think it looks cute while still functional and I can see my mage's face.

Ultimately, if there is no toggle, I won't wear a helmet. I have had to play countless games over the years helmetless because I would much rather look at my character's face - especially if I went through the effort of making one I liked in the customization step of character creation - than an emotionless mask, no matter how nice it looked. This goes double for a game in which my character will have a voice and expressions when they speak. This is why I never used the dragon armor in ME2 - even though I actually liked the way it looked.

If the toggle is too much to ask, it would be nice to see some alternatives to helmets - such as magical circlets.
