Unfortunately no I don't, it's never worked properly on my new PC and on the old one... I don't even remember exactly when it started acted weird. I can tell you it was shortly after the release of patch 1.02

On this PC I had the glitch from day one on both ME1 and 2. On my old one it was glitch-free at first, in fact for my first play-through then suddenly it appeared out of nowhere. Like I said sometimes after patch 1.02 came live. I'm not sure but since I've constantly been updating my video drivers whenever a new one was available it might have appeared after one of those. But I did try system restore back then. No luck

What/Do you have any codec packs installed?

ffdshow, but I made sure to put masseffect2.exe in the "blacklist"

What are the graphic settings in the games set to?

Resolution : 1920x1080
High quality bloom : ON
Film grain : OFF
Motion blur : OFF
Dynamic shadows : ON
Light Environment shadows : ON
Cinematic lights : 3
Spherical harminic lightning : ON
Anisotropic filtering : 16x

Do you run full screen or force the games to run in a window?

Fullscreen

What is the name and model of the motherboard that you are using?

ASUS P8P67 Evo

Was the previous OS 32-bit or 64-bit as well? (That could be a possible issue there)

The previous was 64 too.

Another option: Get a hammer, wave it and threaten the computer by saying: "WORK or Else!"

I threatened many times to throw it out the window, it doesnt seem to scare it :P

:lol:LOL
Seriously though I could never do that to a computer. There are to many innocent transistors that would be along for the ride..... Better option would be to threaten the OS directly with a complete wipe!:whistle:

Lets make sure that these are not the cause of this glitch (time to zero it down).
Disable:
High Quality Bloom
Anisotropic Filtering
Light Enviroment Shadows
I do not advise disabling them all at once.
..............................
I hate the 1.02 patch. So much so that I trick the game into not using it while still playing the content that does upgrade the executable.:bandit:

Correct me if I am wrong but you do have all the DLC for both games installed?:huh:

I tried disabling them one at a time, no change.

What is it about the patch that you hate so much? And you can you trick be applied to the steam version?

Yup. Each and every one of them.

It's most likely a DX11 (your video card) to DX9 (what the game's effects use) translation issue.

Yeah, DX11 cards are supposed to be backwards compatible, but this isn't the first time nor the first game wierdnesses have cropped up.

Have you tried running the game with everything set to the lowest quality, no AA, no aniostropic filtering, and anything you've go forced in the video card driver turned off? Resolution shouldn't matter, but you can run in windowed mode if you're curious.

If it runs fine at the lowest settings for the graphics, granted there aren't that many settings, then turn one on at a time to see what causes the problem.

If that were the case then a lot more people than me would have this kind of issue. Anyway I tried what you advised, it didn't help.

Does anyone know, If or How it's possible to give one weapon the effect of another?

I am messing with the coalesced.ini for some time now and i want to give the carnifex the game-fx of the avanger rifle.

Or maybe is there a way to draw the avanger but just swap the model and animations to a handgun?

As it stands I still have two ideas:
You could try setting the system settings in the Coalesced.ini to these values and if it remains the same then this is seemingly sounding more and more like a patch issue.

Save the coalesced.ini in notepad++ and run the fixer and then the game and see if there is any change.

If the above does not work then try the following:

I am beginning to think that this could on the far off chance be a patch issue. You said that everything was fine up till the 1.02 patch right?

I think that this may be a fix- if that is indeed what is- though I can't be certain as I have not encountered this personally.

This may be well know already and if so I will nuke this post.
Here is the patch fix (well at least what worked for me concerning an issue I had with the patch- CTD every session):

As much as it pains me to say it: uninstall and then reinstall Mass Effect 2.

Next install any or all DLC UPTO LOTSB (DLC that was released after LOTSB (Arrival, Genesis, ect.)must also be avoided as well at this point) Those DLC will all install the V1.02 patch automatically. [use this as a release date guide]

Now navigate to your install directory or open the property tab by right clicking on the desktop shortcut and locate
the Masseffect2.exe. At this point the ME2 executable should be a version before 1.02 (mine is v1.01) which can be checked in the file details.

Copy this file to the desktop and then install the rest of the DLC you want.

Once done, copy back the v1.01 exe back to the binaries folder overwriting the file already there.

This how I get upgraded to v1.02 but avoid the troubles that it causes.

Besides switching the code line of the weapon that speaks about its: "PrettyName=#######" between two weapons I do not believe that is possible with out figuring out how to add stuff to the PCC files directly -something that always crashes them and the game.

Mofifying the Coalesced.ini didn't do it, but I'll be asking you some stuff about those settings in PM.

However I am skeptical about the patch issue. If it WERE a patch issue, how could it affect both ME2 and ME1? They don't share any of their file (for that same reason I doubted the colesced trick would work as well)

I for one think it has to do with the drivers or directx. Possibly a setting NVidia added in one of their drivers but to find which one.....

If it comes to reinstalling ME2 (and I rather not cause it's 20Gb worth of DL), can I do that for the Steam version without steam automatically applying the update?

Hi,

I played ME1 on the xbox but I'm playing through ME2 on pc and so haven't been able to import my character (I know this is possible now, but am already a few hours in so would like to avoid starting over if possible!). I've recently found out about the gibbed editor and was wondering if it would be possible to use it to set the romance flag for kaiden for me1? I've read around and posts/forums all seem to suggest I can do this but i would have to start my me2 save over, and I just wanted to know if i could avoid doing this!

thanks!

If using the modified version of the editor then it is possible. Just tick these options:

Plot>ME2 Plot table>Flags
[Romance] Romanced Kaidan

Mass Effect 1>Flags
[Player] Romanced someone
[Player] Romancing Kaidan

*Make sure that he was not killed on Virmire
[Rescued Kaidan] should be ticked.

Mass Effect 1> Values
Set
[Player] Romance progress with Kaidan
to the #4

Save the file and it should work with any save.

Hmm an interesting theory.
Did you set each game to use different settings in the Nvidia control panel or have the games to set be best adjusted by the game itself?

I am sorry I meant to reinstall the DLC's not the whole game. The possiblity that it is a patch issue is not based on the game but on the DLC.

For ME1 the Pinnacle Station DLC installs the Mass Effect 1.02 patch much like LOTSB and later DLC in ME2 installs ME2's 1.02 patch. For ME1 just install the the BDTS DLC and follow the instructions in my previous post.

I set up each game with nvidia inspector. That's not the culprit though, one of the first things I tried was to set the profiles to 'defaut settings'.

Alright, if I remember right the way to remove the DLCs is by removing their folders.

Uhm, interesting fact : I just realised that I didn't install Pinnacle Station. But I did install patch 1.02

I'll try with ME2 and see what happens.

Well this is simply not working. Even if I remove the DLCs I just have no means to restore the pre-1.02 exe. Steam will always download the latest executable and the 1.01 patch won't work for the steam version of the game.

I'll have to try that with ME1 only.

I do not have the steam version.
Is it possible to disable the internet delete the DLC's and then reinstall the DLC  and copy the 1.01 exe to the desktop and then re-enable the internet and let steam update it and then copy and paste the 1.01exe on the desktop back into the ME2 directory and then quickly double click it to activate the game then once it gets the main menu disable the internet. Would that by pass the update via steam>?

Going to look up a method to stop the steam auto update.

Would this be of help:

I looked up the whole thread, but didn't find an answer. Maybe someone knows.

What need to change in the Coalesced.ini, that would be when health drops to 0 (i.e. near death), but Shepard didn't die. That is, I can keep track of the damage, while I'm experimenting with the difficulty.
GodMode is not suitable.

Thanks in advance!

I think you're missing the point : I do not have the original 1.01 exe and I cannot get it. If I remove it from the game folder and let steam replace it, even after removing the DLCs it will download the 1.02 exe. That's the issue with digital versions.

Not to worry, there are DLC's that install the 1.01 exe version for you.... two are listed in the method below:

Disable your internet (steam can not update when no way to access internet)
Delete the 1.02 exe from the binaries folder (the following step will give you back the exe)
Reinstall Kasumi or Overlord (either of those DLC will install the Mass Effect 2 v1.01 exe during their install process)

The above should let you keep the v1.01exe long enough to install the steam programs auto update enabler/disabler fix in post one on the linked steam forum by downloading the .bat or actual tool from the first post.

The method for stopping steam would and SHOULD stop it from updating the game and let you leave the v1.01 exe installed from say Overlord and being able to run the game without steam replacing the v1.01exe with the v1.02 crap.

Keeping the v1.01 exe backed up to your desktop and then just copy it back into your game folder when you install the rest of the DLC is a good idea as well.

Then restart the computer and then re-enable the internet (not before restart) and see if the the auto update still does its evil act.

Or am I still confused that none of this stops stream?:huh:

If I understand you correctly I would suggest trying these values:

[SFXGame.SFXModule_DamageParty]
bHealthRegenerates=true
HealthRegenRate=0.5f
To:
[SFXGame.SFXModule_DamageParty]
bHealthRegenerates=true
HealthRegenRate=0.1f

[DefaultRTPCValueMap]
Bleedout_Health=0
Health=1500
To:
[DefaultRTPCValueMap]
Bleedout_Health=10
Health=15000

This deal is getting worse all the time...

Removing masseffect2.exe : no problem
Removing all DLCs : no problem
Reinstalling Kasumi or Overlord : impossible

Simply put : when I open the install files for either of these two it extracts the folder DLC_MCR_03 which is the Equalizer pack. I tried re downloading them : same result. WHAT. THE. HELL ????

This seems to happen only with Overlord and Kasumi though.

Hmm.
You delete the folder named DLC in the BioGame directory (in red)?
#:\\Program Files\\Mass Effect 2\\BioGame\\DLC

Also check your My Documents folder and see if remenant are left there.
C:\\Users\\*username*\\Documents\\BioWare\\Mass Effect 2

Leave only the saves folder in the My Documents location so you can keep your playthroughs.

Hmm are you using the DLC installer that steam provides or downloading from here:huh:

I didn't know steam provided installers for DLC, I downloaded mine from Bioware website.
