Cerberus and the Rachni (if allowed to rebuild) are the only groups able and willing to fight the Reapers, we need them and Liara. Maybe if the Collector base is destroyed, Cerberus could become obsolete. If preserved, I believe Cerberus will still play a major role in ME3.Aedan_Cousland wrote...
I doubt we'll be working for Cerberus in ME3. LotSB set the Shadowbroker (Liara) up to be TIM's replacement, as far as moving the story along and giving you mission info.
But the VS is still glued to the Alliance and we have little to indicate they are willing to give that up and join to fight the Reapers. Their loyalty is an obsticle. If they are a LI, we see something else in the email but I find this far from assuming they will join the cause.

All of 'em, unless you import a game where some didn't survive the SM.
It's kinda foreshadowed by the fact that a viable ME2-ME3 import requires at least 2 surviving squadmates and Shepard; i.e. enough squadmates to field a full team. I expect the virmire survivor to make an appearance as well. Liara may or may not rejoin the squad given the events of LotSB.
I do expect some of the ME2 squadmates to leave in ME3 (assuming they survived the SM, of course) as well as a few new squadmates that aren't "recruited", but are thrown together with Shepard as the story progresses.
I think the leavers will be Samara/Morinth, Zaeed, and Kasumi. Depending on the timeframe, Mordin (already old by Salarian standards) and Thane (dying) might also go.
I think the new recruits will be Aria and Captain Bailey based on their respective voice artists. Aria could "lose" Omega; we already know of several plots against her. Capt. Bailey could be kicked out of C-Sec for insubordination, protocol violations or similar. An Asari commando and a grizzled badass would fill a couple of the voids left by the above leavers.
That's my take on it. Could be completely wrong, of course.
Wrong or not, your speculations are the most I agree with. The download content squad members are most likely to leave after the events of ME2, as you said.

They could do something like the start of ME2 where the team mates from ME1 go their separate ways except for a couple. Liara and Wrex are taken. Ashley/Kaiden might end up in a critical position in the Alliance.
Thane kicks his bucket.
The chances of Samara, Zaeed and Kasumi leaving are pretty high.
Tali could go back to the migrant fleet to garner support and Legion could go back to the Geth for the same purpose.
Not sure about Grunt but think he will go back to the Krogan to start the breading the perfect Krogans.
Not sure about Jack (Could challenge Aria and after winning give up the support of Omega) and Jacob.
Miranda (Could take of over Cerberus and pledge its support), Mordin (Getting old while convincing the Salarians) and Garrus (Help get the turian support) might stay unless they have other things planned for them.
If Bioware is planning on having the representatives of different fleets/species/regions/empires as your team mates, then we could get Tali, Ashley, Garrius, Mordin, Grunt/Wrex, Liara, Samara (Since liara might not have enough influence with the Asari due to her age).

The returning characters that will return in three should be the ones that lived through 1 and 2... seems simple enough. BioWare needs to bring the alliance and counsil characters back into the story line and not cop out on writing that part of the game this time around. Word.
This. I came to Mass Effect for the trilogy as a whole, not 3 stand-alone games.
