Thing with DAO and DA2, your background is kinda preset (though in DAO, you can choose your background, there is still a set number of scenarios you can come from). Sure, you can shape some of the small actions and personalities of your character at that time and how they felt about things, but the actual background story itself is pretty much set in stone..

I'm awre. DA2's not the first game to be more established like that - I've played plenty of games with an at least semi-preset backstory.  "Background" in the context I mean can range anywhere between complete backstory to only filling in little gaps/short stories that fit within the preset background. Really, just anything that happened before the game started, big or small.

Ah right, I thought you were referring to creating a backstory when you normally play DAO and will continue when you play DA2, I didn't realize you meant RPGs in general, my bad. I've also played semi-preset backstories or even no backstory at all :wizard:. But I understand what you mean now, sorry for misunderstanding.

I'll be playing as Lady Hawke, as of right now my class would be Mage, but that could change as we learn more, I'm open to any class if it looks like the most fun.

If I buy - female - rogue or mage. No males unless I have to and probably won't warrior at all.

No worries, an understandable confusion to make. :)

I'll play at least 4 at the same time haha! But 1st one will most likely be dual-wielding female rogue, kind of chaotic good, jerk-with-a-heart-of-gold type.

Standard sword-'n-shield warrior. Will decide gender later based on finally hearing their voices.

1) Staunchly Heroic Male Two Handed Warrior M/F romance, would have been dual wield but hey ho.

2) Sarcastic and Heroic Female Mage, with Fire!, probably F/F romance

3) Self serving Amoral Female Rogue, Archer - let others risk themselves in combat, romance most fitting.

4) Magnificient Bastard Male Warrior, maybe S&S, will do the nasty with anything and everything available, to the extent of using exploits.

I start every 'fantasy' RPG - where I have the choice - with a female rogue. And DA2 won't be any different.

Hmm.... Well I start most RPG's with a generic Male warrior so I'm gonna try breaking that habit. Maybe a femal mage, just to try and be diffrent.

I'm not sure what class yet, but I'll definitely play as a female as I am a female and don't really like playing games as men.

I'm most likely going for a male Hawke, name undecided. As a class, I'll probably try out each of them for a bit, then decide which I'll stick with for my first playthrough.

Whether or not I'll customize his appearance depends on the flexibility of the customization. In Mass Effect, I noticed an immense shift in quality (for the worse) when I strayed from the default look, or even when I picked the default female look instead of the male one.

If it's possible to tweak the default male Hawke's appearance just a bit without completely changing how he looks I'll go with that. I'm happy with the way he looks so far, but I might tweak him a little if that's an option.

I start every rpg as a dual wield warrior, so at first I was disappointed, but now I look forward to trying them all out, now that I have been deported from my comfort zone.
