hmm... come to think of it, I have often died when I zoom into scope on an unintended target, and struggle to find what I wanted to shoot and then die an inglorious death from staying out of cover too long. You have to be hyper vigilant to compensate for what I previously thought was some sort of aim-drift.

On Jack's RM, I pause once I have the target in my sight and have have a squadmate use concussive shot, i don't bother attacking it myself anymore, especially the one on the far right.

Here's a video demonstrating the problem on xbox.

Note that there are other related issues but they aren't as easy to consistently repro.

Dear God .. absolutely perfect representation of what hell snipers go through in this game. I am baffled as to how ME2 shipped like this. Holy hell . the AA is on SUPER HIGH.

I have NEVER seen the game act like that before on xbox. Is it because he is docked to cover when he tries to shoot? I've had some annoying movement, but nothing ever like that. I usually get out of cover shoot and get back in cover ( using AR usually ) and its never like that.

Try zooming in on a canister with a sniper rifle.  Your gun will also often "track" an enemy that is moving which is harmful.  For instance when sniping I sometimes zoom in ahead of where a target is moving towards so that I can shoot his head when he crosses in front, but the aim "assist" will zoom you towards him completely subverting your intentions.  Also, occasionally you will aim at an enemy and then a mob will run in front and your zoom will track the new target.

Anyone that plays an Infiltrator on XBox 360 is probably familiar with these bugs.

Yeah, haven't played infiltrator in months, but I also never aim at canisters ;) I see the second issue ( occasionally you will aim at an enemy and then a mob will run in front and your zoom will track the new target ) on Reaper IFF when aiming at Scions even with a soldier AR.

Hm. I normally play infiltrator and like I said, I've never encountered such problems. I guess I'll have to notice next time I play.

I uploaded a video showing some of the problems with aiming. I chose to use the laser sighted pistol because it makes the problem more visible but the issue does exist with other weapons.

Keep in mind that it's hard to duplicate a scenario where your cross hair drags across the screen without your control but I did catch it at the beginning of the video. The rest of the clips show weird stagger effects---which have little to do with being shot at---and scoping in problems already shown by ScroguBlitzen. Unfortunately these are not the best examples as I'm working with limited save files and time but I hope they show how screwy the aiming system can be.

Here's the video:

^ Nice vid. Just FYI to people never played on the console, he NEVER moved the camera nor his direction the entire time, he only presses aim, and the crosshairs follow the closest enemy within the 40% center of the screen, just like how the Hammerhead tracks targets, in fact, it acts just like how interactive balloons become active when Shepard is roaming. Not only does it make aiming farther enemies difficult, it doesn't even land your target on the tracked enemy 3/4 of the time. It is aggrevating when sniping a heavy missile merc when another merc runs by, as well as when it auto-tracks husks you've already frozen in front of you when you intend to aim for the live one behind it.

Is this just an Xbox problem? or something i recall being able to at least shut off aim assist in ME 2 through the options. I have not once had this problem.

Edit: from my sig you can probably tell i'm well versed with the sniper rifles. and i play PC

Why not just get rid of aim assist entirely? It's not hard to point and click or aim and shoot (depending on what you're playing on). It's easy enough and the aim assist can really hurt you if you're sniping.

I'm fairly certain it's just an XBox problem. I checked the options multiple times and could not find anything to change the aim assist.

I agree. It's best to give people the option of using it rather than forcing it on everyone.

Whats extra lame is that Mass Effect 1 on XBox had the option to disable Aim Assist. It's just missing in Mass Effect 2.

Swear to god I do not experience this.  I even started up the game and tried it out, and it does not occur.  I'll consider myself crazy if that is the only explanation, but I do not have my crosshairs 'jump' on me like they are in this video.  To be fair, I did not try it when shooting at a canister.  Regardless, I am baffled at that video.  I would call it fake if this thread wasn't filled with people complaining about the issue.  I even strictly play Infiltrator because I find all the other classes less enjoyable.  Perhaps my copy is broken lol?

@hazel- are you on xbox or pc? This problem is xbox only.

Xbox 360.

I'm wondering if there is a display settings resolve and that my television does not compensate like many others seem to? I know that doesn't make any sense, but the video is still blowing my mind.

@hazel- do the same mission. Aim at a canister when mobs are nearby then confirm that yours doesn't try to target the mob

I just did the "Destroy blood pack base ( the one that yields heavy weapon ammo upgrade )" N7 mission. after the initial assult, when going over the bridge there are two rocket launcher guys on the bluff above you. When you try to take them out ( mattock ) by aiming at the explosive cannister next to them you can't do it ( like I said I never target them ). But I was aiming while docked in cover so maybe that is what makes it worse?

@Ryoldschool: Being docked behind cover does not make a difference. Watch the video I posted above; I encounter the same problem when standing.

... I wondered why Shepard would always target her enemies' crotches without my input.

Can't you just turn aim-assist off?

Forgive me, but I've been deep into Red Dead and now New Vegas.  Which mission is that again?  If a currently abandoned game get to it quickly I will play it, but otherwise it could take weeks of me playing before I get there lol.  I don't get to play games often these days.

@files_by_handles : I went back to check out "docked-in-cover-targeting" vs "standing-targeting" on that Zeda Ban mission ( N7 where you get the Heavy Ammo Upgrade ) where I duplicated the aim-problem on a cannister. I haven't been able to duplicate the problem cover or not! It should be easy to reproduce, but I've tried about six times in-cover aiming ( like I did in an earlier post ) but have not seen it show up ( xbox of course ).

So I guess I'm saying maybe that is why some people see it and some don't - because it is a complex bug - hard to reproduce. Obviously they need to remove this bug from ME3, because sniping is fun in this game.
