He rises Combat Training x4, and then how can I continue?

I do not much tactics to spend points in this one. Survival is useless. For Stealing and Herbalism I has another chars in those. I think my chances are on Trap or Poison making. Which one will be more usefull at highs levels for a warrior companion?

Survival ain't exactly useless. It grants Natural resistance and the ability to see creatures that are near for advanced intel. Knowing there is a Boss lvl caster just around the corner can be a decent thing to aquire.

Other than that, any of the Crafting skills would be OK, I guess; Poison mostly.

Survival is a nice skill to have, only a few types of enemies won't appear ahead of time.

Though you shouldn't discount tactics, companions won't use talents/spells unless they have a tactic set of it. So unless you're cycling through and directing each party member in every fight or setting tactics for them, you really aren't using them to their fullest capability.

Thanks for the advice, I have reevaluated Survival and the resistance bonus worth it. I still thinking that traps or poison are better choises, but it seems that they are not of Alistair like.

I usually take one level of trap-making(level 6 so I can do the Lothering quest) on Alistair, then max out combat training. From there I usually go with survival or poison(not more than 1 rank of poison is needed anyway for him). I find that I usually don't need the extra tactics slots for him, but overall I think putting skill points in tactics highly effective for rogues and mages

I usually have him at 4 CT, 1 in poison (for grenade use) and then the rest in survival for the nature resistance.

I usually get CT4 and Survival on all the party members. For my main, I pick up CT4 and Coercion4, then I'll start buying Survival.

Really depends on playstyle.

Combat Training 4 for the rogue/warriors then at least combat tactics 3, 4 for mages, then I spread out to poison/herbalism/survival. Coercion 4 on the main almost goes without saying.

I'm a very big supporter of tactics to allow minimal micromanagement of party members.

I agree with using Tactics for most characters, but a S&S Warrior does not require such investment, IMO. Besides Shield Bash, Shield Pummel, Overpower, and basic Attack, there is little to add (do not care for Assault).

Also true. SnB Alistair doesn't get tactic 3/4 until rather late in the game. Or the attack branch. 3 tactics for sustainables, 1 for general taunt, 2 for PC/Mage being attacked, 1 for low health... tactics add up, even if they aren't 'attack this using this' types.

Actually, none as per the question, is not exactly a very useful character, I have played several origins and I don't have him in the party the entire game and can play it and see no disadvantage, having oghren or sten is even better since both of them are quick strikers even for a rogue using "momentum" and even more powerful with double handed weapons. I respect the creation of this character but I see no need in having him around.

As for tactics, one that I always use is self:health <75 (or 90 if fighting elite bosses) use lesser health potion that way I wouldn't have to worry about all of my party companions concerning replenishing their health, they do it on their own and I just look after Morrigan. As another tactic, I put the party to look after one another: sten looking after leliana, Leliana looking after sten, Morrigan looking after me, and me looking after Morrigan when I'm switch characters. Stuns, freezing over, powerful attacks. I like freezing or stunning enemies and attacking before they can engage their first attack, by then they are closer to be killed.

As for survival, besides the nature resistence there is one quest in origins and the possible use of it in awakening that requieres high survival but that depends of the player to use them, the good thing is spotting the enemies before engaging in the map that is one thing that I like about survival.

I most of the time use attacks that can knock down enemies, always good to attack them on the floor, :) no mercy against darkspawn and other enemies.
