will it be possible to have 6 persons in team, or, like in DA:O only 4 ?

As it stands, I think the party size of 4 is hardcoded with no way to change it. If it could be done, other modders already would have done so by now. What we possibly could do though is kind of a cheat workaround. You may have seen the mod Extra Dog Slot for Origins which allows you to have Dog in the party as a summoned creature, yet still interject in conversations, take part in party banter and be able to be spoken to just like any other party member. The downside is he doesn't show up in the tactics or inventory windows, but otherwise you essentially have a 5 member party. Something similar to that could be a potential avenue for us to explore, but I can't make any promises at this stage, especially given I don't have anything to do with scripting (I'm just a lowly modeller).

N.B. Be aware that you can add unlimited party members via console command, but they don't have any HUD elements and don't interact etc. As I said, the game is hardcoded to only expect 4 party members.

Silly Question from someone with little to no knowledge of the series: How much of the story is covered here?

Almost none! Image IPB

This really is just a taste of BG2.  Chapter 1 places you into the story, gets you familiar with some of the backstory and character relationships, and a basic understanding of the controls (interestingly adapted here for DA!

There is at least 10X more to go! Image IPB

The thing with BG2 is it is broad in scope in both the number of areas and the number of quests across those areas. Our goal initially is to focus on the main plot, which means for the next couple of modules we will be prioritising those areas that are necessary to advance the plot. For Chapter 2 of the story, that will require at least Waukeen's Promenade, the Slum District, the Graveyard District, and the Docks District in Athkatla. That alone is a fairly mammoth undertaking, let alone considering areas outside the city like Windspear Hills, Trademeet, Umar Hills, etc.

Everything is a bit up in the air at the moment as while we've spoken about it briefly, we have obviously been primarily focused on getting module 1 out the door. Now that's done, so we can look to the next module. Once the team has recharged their batteries we'll get together and hash out a plan and let people know how we are going to tackle it. Look for some more detailed info to surface around Xmas time.

I already downloaded and played it... outsanding effort indeed. Congrats to all the team!!!!

I specially enjoyed the cutscenes, that help a lot in  engaging you more in the story than the original game did, with only the dialog and portraits.
And you acomplished one thing that I thought was impossible... regard Jaheira as a possible love interest... lol Back in the original she looked like a fish, poor thing, just like Aerie... Now she looks smoking hot...

I would only advise you to change the music of the trailer (it is far too bland  and generic I think, it lacks epicness... unfortunately I cant think of any cool alternatives than perhaps Peer Gynts "Hall of the Mountain King", that has a great build-up and has no copyright issues I guess...

One little thing bothers me... I couldnt use either the Wands or the Air Elemental statuette (and so couldnt open the Gennies' pocket plane....)  Is this a bug, I wonder?

One sidenote non related to the Redux version... I totally had forgotten how the dialog and character interaction went down in Baldurs Gate... I am in awe of how Bioware's writers have improved over the years... The Dragon Age interaction is by far much more engaging and better written ( of course, cinematics do help...).

more sidenotes... Heres a link to a Community Trading-Game site in which you can get Baldurs Gate II, if youre interested, for very little money or  by exchanging it for another game ( theres more than 30 copies offered). Ive been a member here for almost 10 years, lots of cool people:

Finishing Irenicus' dungeon is the equivalent of leaving your starter town with Duncan in Origins. You're maybe 2-3% done with the game.

I usually use a mod to skip that dungeon whenever I start a new game.

But this, this was so much fun i played it twice.

Someone asked a question wether the the engine limits the party to only 4 members. I don't remember seing the answer, and that's something I'd really like to know.

Yes Wally2905 :( 4 character party is hardcoded. There are some ways to workaround that, but the other members wont be fully controllable. We are looking into options to extend the party... no guarantees, will have to wait and see what can be done cleanly.

Just downloaded this and played for a few mins - wow you deserve so much credit. BG2 is a classic and you really do it justice here. It's actually much more immersive than the real thing.

Thanks so much!!

You should be able to use all the wands, when testing I could disarm all those traps, and we're not changing the trailer music now =P

you should have been able to use the wand keys, but you cannot use the wands themselves yet, we havent implemented wands quite yet.

air elemental statue - I haven't heard of a problem getting into the air pocket plane before. are you sure you picked it up? if so, then we'd need more information and possibly your save file, though if nobody else can reproduce its unlikely to be fixed.

Hey folks, congratulations for your release, great job you have done there. Now there won't be any excuses anymore from the young RPG players complaining that the graphics of BG2 are outdated, here is their chance to get some BG awesomeness.

Thanks for the link chrissicross. Any native German speaker care to give us the gist of it? Google's mangled translation seemed to indicate the reviewer thought it was OK, but a lot of it was unclear.

Hmm, they seemed to like it, but their closing comment translates as 'It is hoped that Baldur's Gate II Redux soon increase of competent programmers get, because in the current pace of modders team to complete the project I will probably not live to my lifetime.'

Presumably that relates to the whole "1% in 10 months" thing and a linear extrapolation thereof. Seems they failed to factor in that probably 1/2-3/4 of that time was spent learning to use the toolset and waiting for 3rd party apps to mature, and that work on future modules should progress much faster. Not to mention that I don't think the ID is only 1%.

I can give you a little advise: if you want to do it faster may be you do objects in area looks LIKE BG 2, not the same. You have very much works with scripting and cut scenes, buildings not so important. People want to see Minsc not "this- building -MUST- looks- like- in- BG- and- nothing- else".

Good luck with creating the game, don't think I will be playing Irenicus dungeon at this point as I will probably play it numerous times once more content is released... Where is further updates and the like documented? On the project page on this site all the posts were a few months old...

EDIT: I suppose checking out the links in your sigs would have been the logical thing to do... Anyway might be an idea to have in the first post.

I've finally had enough time to play the BGR mod. It's really awesome: congrats to the mod team, you have achieved something really beautifull and you deserve all the praise in the world. The attention to details and the fidelity to the original is incredible. I'm realy looking forward to see the next chapters of your work even if I understand that it's really an hard job: good luck ;).

I really hope that you will find a workaround to have a 6 person party.

Vote: 10/10.

Just one question: how do you develop the class system? Mind, it's not bad but since it's not AD&D and it's not DA:O, it does feel a little bit limited and arbitrary. Maybe I'm wrong but imho you should use the basic class system of DA:O and handle special classes or multiclasses with specialization.

PS: Projects like yours and the Lazarus one show that there would be a lot of potential for classic remakes. I wonder why big companies do not see that potential too.
